NACA test pilot John Griffith flies the X-1 #2 aircraft on a pressure distribution, stability and control & stabiliser check flight OTD in 1950. Flight details are not available but this was Griffith's 7th of 9 X-1 flights, the 140th flight of the program & the 39th for NACA.
On his first X-1B flight (#24, NACA flight #14), OTD in 1957, NACA research pilot Neil Armstrong completes a pilot familiarisation mission. Upon landing the X-1B's nose gear fails resulting in minor damage. Armstrong flew the next X-1B mission in November of that year.
