SpaceX’s Dragon cargo spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean at 4:21 p.m. EDT (1:21 p.m PDT), approximately 300 miles southwest of Long Beach, California, marking the end of the company’s 18th contracted cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station for NASA. The spacecraft returned more than 2,700 pounds of valuable scientific experiments and other cargo.

Miesiąc później, we wtorek 27 sierpnia Dragon został odłączony od ISS. Na pokładzie Dragona znalazło się 1220 kg sprzętu i próbek z eksperymentów naukowych. Wodowanie u wybrzeży Kalifornii nastąpiło o godzinie 22:21 CEST. Wodowanie przebiegło prawidłowo i kapsuła została szybko podjęta przez statek firmy SpaceX.

CRS-18 to ciekawa misja także z perspektywy ponownego wykorzystania sprzętu. Pierwszy stopień Falcona 9 został w tym starcie po raz drugi wykorzystany, zaś kapsuła Dragon – po raz trzeci. Wcześniej ten egzemplarz kapsuły Dragon został wykorzystany w misji CRS-6 (2015 rok) i CRS-13 (2017 rok).

Następna misja kapsuły Dragon – CRS-19 – jest obecnie planowana na koniec tego roku.

(...) The automated Dragon cargo capsule delivered 5,097 pounds (2,312 kilograms) of supplies, equipment and research investigations for the station’s six-person Expedition 60 crew.

The cargo load delivered to the station included a new $22.5 million docking adapter to accommodate arrivals of Boeing and Starliner commercial crew capsules. NASA astronauts Nick Hague and Andrew Morgan helped install the new docking mechanism — the second such adapter on the station — during an Aug. 21 spacewalk.

The station crew stowed an Extravehicular Mobility Unit, or spacesuit, into the Dragon’s internal compartment for return. A fresh spacesuit arrived at the station aboard the spacecraft in late July.

The Dragon also came back to Earth with mice, which scientists sent to the space station to investigate how spaceflight affected the animals’ muscles, bones, immune systems and organs.
