Powrót Sojuza MS-08 na Ziemię / Credits - NASAPo ponad 6 miesiącach przebywania na pokładzie Międzynarodowej Stacji Kosmicznej dwóch Amerykanów i Rosjanin powrócili szczęśliwie na Ziemię w 61. rocznicę wystrzelenia na orbitę wokółziemską pierwszego satelity – Sputnika.
Początek
misji Sojuza MS-08 nastąpił 21 marca 2018, a cumowanie do modułu Poisk Międzynarodowej Stacji Kosmicznej (ISS) zostało wykonane 23 marca. Łączny lot załogi trwał 196 dni i 18 godzin. W tym czasie załoga Sojuza MS-08 okrążyła Ziemię 3152 razy, zaś sam pojazd kosmiczny pod względem długości lotu w ramach obsługi ISS zajmuje obecnie szóste miejsce.
Odcumowanie Sojuza MS-08 nastąpiło planowo 4 października o 09:57 CEST. W czasie oddalania się statku kosmicznego od ISS odstąpiono od normalnej procedury i Oleg Artiemjew przez pewien czas ręcznie sterował Sojuzem w pobliżu Stacji, żeby umożliwić Andrew Feustelowi wykonanie inspekcji fotograficznej kompleksu orbitalnego.
Następnie doszło do deorbitacji, a o godzinie 13:44 CEST lądownik statku kosmicznego Sojuz MS-08 dotknął kazachskiego stepu.
Na pokładzie Sojuza MS-08 na Ziemię powrócili: Rosjanin Oleg Artiemjew oraz dwóch Amerykanów – Andrew Feustel i Richard Arnold.
Dla Artiemjewa był to drugi lot kosmiczny. Jego łączny nalot wynosi 365 dni 23 godziny i tym samym stał się 36. kosmonautą, który łącznie spędził poza Ziemią co najmniej rok. Wcześniej był uczestnikiem 40. wyprawy na ISS.
Dla Andrewa Feustela był to pierwszy długotrwały lot na ISS. Wcześniej był uczestnikiem misji STS-125, która jako ostatnia serwisowała Teleskop Hubble’a oraz wziął udział w finalnej wyprawie wahadłowca Endeavour. Jego łączny nalot wynosi 225 dni. Richard Arnold ma za sobą misję STS-119 Discovery w 2009 roku. W sume spędził w kosmosie 209 dni.
W czasie zakończonej 56 Ekspedycji Artiemjew wykonał jeden spacer kosmiczny , a Feustel i Arnold po trzy.
Warto dodać, że Amerykanie wykonali jublileuszowy spacer kosmiczny nr 400, a Andrew Feustel z dziewięcioma spacerami o łącznym czasie ich trwania wynoszącym 61 godzin 48 minut zajmuje trzecie miejsce.

In a departure from normal practice, Artemyev manually piloted the spacecraft through a partial loop around the station, allowing Feustel to carry out a photo survey of the outpost as it nears the 20th anniversary of the first module’s launch in November 1998. The lab has been continuously staffed by rotating cosmonaut-astronaut crews since October 2000.
“This is great!” someone said on the space-to-ground audio loop as Feustel snapped photos from the Soyuz’s upper orbital module. A few minutes later, someone speaking Russian complimented Feustel, saying “Drew, good job.” (...)

Feustel, who turned over control to Gerst on Wednesday (Oct. 3), presented his successor with a token of their common field of study and time on the International Space Station (ISS).
"I would like to offer you something to remember the bond that we both share as geophysicists," Feustel told Gerst during the brief change of command ceremony. "This is an anorthosite phenocryst from Mount Erebus in Antarctica. I know you have many of these and some have flown in space, but surely not one given by a fellow geophysicist and fellow ISS commander while actually in space."
Feustel also gifted Gerst with an Expedition 56 medallion and continued a tradition by passing him a symbolic key to the space station, a tool used to open and close the hatch of the Soyuz.
"Thanks for 1,850 orbits of friendship and great achievements together," said Gerst, addressing Feustel, Arnold and Artemyev. "Together we achieved a lot. We grew plants, we mixed concrete, we tested cancer meds, we grew protein crystals, we checked out granules, we measured the Earth's magnetic field, we generated a Bose Einstein condensate, we tested metal alloys, and many, many more things."
"With over 350 experiments credited to the expedition, we should all be proud of our accomplishments together," said Feustel. (...)
