Jak pisał już Adaś Przybyła na wątku o japońskim programie kosmicznym:

http://www.forum.kosmonauta.net/index.php?topic=142.135

The meeting cemented a collaboration between the two space agencies. CNES will provide an instrument for MMX as well as combining expertise on flight dynamics for the tricky encounter with the Martian moons.

The French instrument will combine a high-resolution infrared camera and spectrometer, a technique that analyses the composition of each image pixel. This will allow the rocks of the Martian moons to be investigated down to a few tenths of a metre.

With a pixel size an order of magnitude smaller than that of similar instruments on missions such as NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and ESA's Mars Express, the spectrometer will also be able to help MMX select the best landing site on Phobos and take the sample.

CNES will also explore the possibility of building a rover to explore the surface of Phobos. A decision will be taken in November this year.

W misji ma brać też udział NASA:

In addition to the collaboration with France, MMX will carry an instrument from NASA. While the CNES spectrometer will examine the type of minerals on the moons, the NASA instrument will pick out individual chemical elements. This is done by analysing the high-energy Gamma rays and neutrons that are produced during the bombardment of cosmic rays from the Sun or more distant sources.

Together, these instruments will reveal a more thorough composition of Mars's mysterious satellites.

Sonda ma posiadać następujące instrumenty naukowe:

- Neutron and Gamma-ray Spectrometer (NGRS)
- Wide Angle Multiband Camera (WAM)
- Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS)
- Telescopic Camera (TL)
- Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR)
- Circum-Martian Dust Monitor (CMDM)
- Mass Spectrum Analyzer (MSA)

Sonda MMX miałaby wystartować we wrześniu 2024 i dotrzeć w okolice Czerwonej Planety w sierpniu 2025.

NASA confirms contribution to Japanese-led Mars mission
November 20, 2017 Stephen Clark

NASA announced Thursday it will fund development of a scientific instrument that will fly on Japan’s Martian Moons Exploration mission, a robotic probe set for launch in 2024 to bring back the first samples from Mars’ largest moon Phobos. (...)

Fitted with a souped-up propulsion module, landing legs and a sample carrier, the spacecraft will enter orbit around Mars, then rendezvous with Phobos before landing on the moon to core into its surface and gather rock fragments. The craft will take off from Phobos — an asteroid-like object with weak gravity — and make several flybys of the smaller moon Deimos before firing its engines to head back to Earth, arriving home in mid-2029. (...)

A Russian mission named Phobos-Grunt launched in 2011 had the same objective, but a rocket mishap stranded the probe in orbit around the Earth before it could depart for the red planet. Russian scientists have developed plans for another Phobos mission, but the project has not been formally approved, and if given the go-ahead would likely launch after MMX. (...)

On 18 June 2019, Hansjorg Dittus, DLR Executive Board Member for Space Research and Technology, Walther Pelzer, the DLR Executive Board Member responsible for the Space Administration, and Hitoshi Kuninaka, Director General of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) at JAXA, signed a cooperation agreement outlining DLR's participation in the Japanese-led MMX mission. The contributions that the Franco-German rover will make to the mission are central to this agreement.

In addition, DLR is making scientific findings about Deimos and Phobos available in preparation for the mission and is enabling tests to be conducted at DLR's Landing and Mobility Test Facility (LAMA) and in the drop tower at the Centre of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) in Bremen.

On 19 June 2019, the Franco-German cooperation agreement for the development of the rover as part of the MMX mission was signed by Pascale Ehrenfreund, Hansjorg Dittus and CNES President Jean-Yves le Gall. The German-French rover will be designed and built as a joint effort.

DLR will, in particular, be responsible for developing the rover's casing and its robotic locomotion system, together with a spectrometer and a radiometer that will both be used to determine the characteristics and composition of the surface.

The French space agency CNES is making major contributions with camera systems for spatial orientation and exploration of the surface, as well as the rover's central service module. Upon landing, the rover will then be operated jointly by CNES and DLR.
