International Womes 's Day
« dnia: Marzec 08, 2023, 23:48 »

( http://lk.astronautilus.pl/astros/592.htm )

As of March 2023, 72 women have flown in space. Of these, 44 have worked on the International Space Station as long-duration expedition crewmembers, as visitors on space shuttle assembly flights, or as space flight participants on short-duration missions.

Last year, Nicole Mann commanded the Crew-5 mission to the International Space Station, her first trip to space. On the mission, Mann (Wailacki of the Round Valley Indian Tribes) became the first Native American woman in space. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

Dr. Lyndsey McMillon-Brown i jej zespół z NASA Glenn Research Center opracowują nowe technologie produkcji paneli słonecznych. Testy są już prowadzone na ISS.
Technologia może sprawdzić się na Księżycu.

“It’s a build as you go process,” said McMillon-Brown. “Perovskites have a nice versatility we haven’t yet seen. In a short period, there have been rapid advancements in its efficiencies and its behavior. We’ve seen a lot of growth in this field.”

With just one liter of the solution, astronauts would have enough material to generate a megawatt of solar power, which is far more energy than is required to run the International Space Station. But the perovskite material is only part of what makes Glenn scientists so excited for the potential of this project; the other is the new method for assembling solar cells called electrospraying that researchers at the University of California at Merced developed.

Electrospraying works like an inkjet printer, and it makes assembly quick, easy and efficient. It requires a small nozzle to deposit the perovskite solution as a thin film—about 250 times thinner than a human hair—onto a substrate that acts as the structure for the panel.

“When you print solar cells in space, you don’t have to worry about the launch destroying the cells or its structure,” Peshek said. “Your efficiency is in the volume of space it takes up, and it’s condensed.”

Po raz trzeci 4 kobiety przebywają jednocześnie na ISS.

With the arrival of the Soyuz MS-25 crew, there are once again four women aboard ISS. Just in time to help celebrate Women’s History Month. This is the third time in International Space Station history where this has happened. Tracy Dyson has now taken part in two of those instances. Women’s History Month: Celebrating Women Astronauts 2024
MAR 01, 2024

(...) The first time four women flew aboard the space station at one time occurred between May 16 and 23, 2010. Expedition 23 Flight Engineer NASA astronaut Tracy C. Dyson had been living and working aboard since April when STS-131 arrived, with NASA astronauts Dorothy M. “Dottie” Metcalf-Lindenburger and Stephanie D. Wilson, and Naoko Yamazaki of JAXA as members of the shuttle crew – Yamazaki became the first Japanese woman to visit the space station.  (...)

In September 2022, Cristoforetti assumed command of the space station, a first for a European woman. When Crew-5 launched aboard Crew Dragon Endurance in October 2022, NASA astronaut Nicole A. Mann became the first Native American woman in space and the first woman to command a Crew Dragon mission, and Anna Y. Kikina of Roscosmos became the first Russian cosmonaut to fly aboard a U.S. commercial vehicle. For the second time, two women commanders, Cristoforetti and Mann, greeted each other as Crew-5 arrived to join Expedition 68. The launch of Crew-5 also marked the first time that five women lived and worked in space at the same time – the four women aboard the space station and Liu Yang aboard China’s Tiangong space station on her second space mission. The launch of Crew-6 in February 2023 marked the first all-male long-duration crew aboard a commercial crew vehicle. The return of Mann and Kikina marked the end of the longest time period with at least one woman living and working in space, 879 days, or 2 years and 5 months. (...)

Wrapped up an awesome week and a half of #helicopter flying with the Colorado Army National Guard team in Gypsum, Colorado at their High-Altitude ARNG Aviation Training Site (HAATS). We saw how crew coordination fits into power management, actively interpreted what the aircraft and environment are telling us, dealt with visual illusions in the mountains, and worked together to deal with any misinterpretations. This training will come in handy to prepare us for @NASAArtemis moon landings!
