SLS – pierwszy start w 2021 roku
BY KRZYSZTOF KANAWKA ON 22 LUTEGO 2020

Orion completes testing at Plum Brook

WASHINGTON — The Orion spacecraft that will fly on the first launch of the Space Launch System has completed testing at an Ohio facility and will soon be shipped back to the Kennedy Space Center for final launch preparations.

NASA held a ceremony March 14 at Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, run by the Glenn Research Center, to mark the completion of environmental testing of the Orion spacecraft that will fly the Artemis 1 mission. Orion arrived at Plum Brook in November for thermal vacuum and electromagnetic environment testing.

Those tests were “extremely successful,” said Jules Schneider, director of assembly, test and launch operations for Orion at Lockheed Martin, in an interview. The thermal vacuum tests, where the spacecraft was subjected to temperatures ranging from about –155 to 150 degrees Celsius, were completed in 47 days instead of the planned 63 days. (...)

Orion Wraps Up Testing in Ohio for First Artemis Mission to the Moon
By Mike Killian, on March 15th, 2020

NASA’s Orion spacecraft for the first Artemis mission to return Americans to the moon has wrapped up a near 4-month long environmental testing campaign at the agency’s Glenn Research Center / Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, marking a big milestone towards the Artemis-1 mission expected to launch in late 2021.

It’s the final stretch of major testing before integration with the mammoth Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for flight, subjecting it to the same temperatures and electromagnetic environment it will experience in the vacuum of space. Meanwhile, the SLS it will launch on is currently at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi preparing for a test fire campaign this summer.

With Orion’s space environmental testing now complete, the spacecraft will head to its launch site at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida on the agency’s unique ‘Super Guppy’ aircraft, but it has to be transported across over 40 miles of rural Ohio roads to Mansfield Lahm Airport first. It’s currently expected to arrive at KSC on March 24, where it will then be examined for any leaks or damage that could have occurred in transport.

By June, technicians will be ready to install its power-producing solar arrays and begin final processing and integration for the launch of Artemis-1. Both the SLS rocket and spacecraft will finally come together inside KSC’s iconic Vehicle Assembly Building some time in the spring of 2021, where all of NASA’s Saturn V Apollo moon rockets and space shuttle stacks were raised and readied for flight. Koniec testów MPCV Orion do Artemis-1
BY KRZYSZTOF KANAWKA ON 23 MARCA 2020

Co do daty startu wypowiedział się Bridenstine:

Cytuj
Joey Roulette @joroulette · 15 kwi
NASA's "still on track for 2021 for Artemis 1," Jim Bridenstine tells the Planetary Society, and if "coronavirus goes on for a number of more months," it may get pushed to 2022. If it keeps slipping, "eventually it's going to impinge on Artemis 2."

No ale:
