10.10.1973 prezydent Georges Pompidou podarował próbkę skały księżycowej wraz z flagą Francji muzeum Palais de la Découverte w Paryżu.
Próbka została dostarczona na Ziemię przez misję Apollo 17.
Flagi krajów podczas tej wyprawy znalazły się na powierzchni Księżyca.

C’est le 21 mars 1973, que le Président Richard Nixon signe une lettre qui accompagnera chacun des échantillons à leurs pays destinataires. Cette lettre et cet échantillon seront également accompagnés d’un drapeau du pays ayant voyagé également sur la surface lunaire à bord du LEM d’Apollo 17.

C'était le 10 octobre 1973
Il y a 50 ans, le Président Georges Pompidou donne au@palaisdecouvert  la roche lunaire offerte à la France par l'équipage d'Apollo 17.

On December 14, 1972, the Apollo 17 lunar module "Challenger" departed the Moon with Harrison Schmitt and Gene Cernan, the last astronauts on the Moon. LM liftoff was captured by a TV camera on the LRV that was left behind. More on how it was done: https://s.si.edu/4gx1lsM

1,452 days after Apollo 8 left lunar orbit Apollo 17's TEI burn, OTD in 1972, begins the journey home. Apollo's 'up close and personal' exploration of the Moon had encompassed 3 years 11 months & 21 days...or 47+ lunar months. An era of discovery that ended 51 years ago today!

12.12.1972 w T+118:51:19 doszło do pęknięcia błotnika w LRV (Lunar Roving Vehicle).
Następnego dnia udało się dokonać naprawy.

Duct tape auto repair on the Moon?
Today in 1972, the Apollo 17 astronauts had to create a replacement fender for the Lunar Roving Vehicle, using only materials they had with them on the Moon.

#Apollo17 astronauts drove the battery-powered Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) on the surface of the Moon to cover more ground, traveling a total of 19 miles (30.5 km) over their three days on the Moon. This was the third LRV to drive on the Moon.

During the first Apollo 17 extravehicular activity one of the rover's fenders broke resulting in the astronauts getting covered in moon dust as they drove. A makeshift replacement was made #OTD in 1972 with maps and duct tape.

The four maps used in this lunar repair were returned from the Moon and are now located in the Museum in Washington, DC. The remaining maps from the mission have been donated to the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
