Długo na to czekałem, ale wreszcie jest. Fotografia miejsca lądowania Apollo 11 uzyskana z kamery wąskokątnej OHRC, indyjskiego orbitera księżycowego Chandrayaan II.

Porównanie w podobnej skali fotografii z LRO i Chandrayaan-2, uzyskanych w odstępie 11 lat. Fotografia z LRO została wykonana z wysokości 41 km, Chandrayaan-2 z wys. 100 km.

Aż szkoda, że teraz nie zrobili zdjęcia z takiej wysokości

Na początku misji Chandrayaan-2 pojawiły się informacje, że na późniejszym etapie możliwe jest obniżenie jego orbity do 50 km. Jeśli wystarczy mu paliwa na takie manewry, być może doczekamy się fotografii o rozdzielczości np. 15 cm/piksel?

To nie mogę doczekać się zdjęć z takiej wysokości! Wiadomo orientacyjnie kiedy taki manewr może nastąpić?

Nie wiadomo nic na ten temat. Po fiasku lądowania Vikrama 2 lata temu, ISRO rzadko przesyła jakiekolwiek informacje o tej misji.
Oczywiście, wyjątkiem była wczorajsza i dzisiejsza telekonferencja z krotką prezentacją głównych zadań naukowych Chandrayaan-2. W temacie kamery OHRC dzisiejsza prezentacja trwała zaledwie 30 minut i zaprezentowano tam kilka zobrazowań wybranych miejsc, zupełnie nie związanych z interesującym nas zagadnieniem.



Pozostaje uzbroić się w cierpliwość.

Dziś mija 53 rocznica lądowania Orła z Apollo 11 na Księżycu.

Pamiętam ten dzień i komunikat o pomyślnym lądowaniu "Orła", oraz późniejszą nocną transmisję pierwszego spaceru po Księżycu N. Armstronga i B. Aldrina. Niezapomniane przeżycie dla 18-latka.

Apollo F-1 rocket engines raised off ocean floor by Amazon CEO

March 20, 2013 — Long thought to be lost forever on the ocean floor, the massive engines that launched astronauts to the moon more than 40 years ago have been recovered by a private expedition led by the founder of Amazon.com.

"We found so much," said Jeff Bezos, the online retailer's CEO, in an update posted Wednesday (March 20) on the Bezos Expeditions website. "We have seen an underwater wonderland – an incredible sculpture garden of twisted F-1 engines that tells the story of a fiery and violent end, one that serves testament to the Apollo program."

One of the conservators discovered that the number “2044” had been stenciled in black paint on the side of one of the massive thrust chambers. He found it while using a black light and a special lens filter.

This 2044 was not a mystery. According to Bezos, it corresponds to NASA number 6044, the serial number for F-1 Engine No. 5 from the Apollo 11 mission.
