JIUQUAN, April 30 (Xinhua) -- China successfully sent a new remote sensing satellite, Yaogan-34, into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 3:27 p.m. Friday (Beijing Time).

The Yaogan-34 satellite was carried by a Long March-4C rocket and successfully entered its planned orbit.

The optical remote sensing satellite will be used for the survey of land resources, urban planning, the confirmation of land rights, road network design, crop yield estimation, and disaster prevention and reduction. It will also provide information services for the construction of the Belt and Road.

It was the 368th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series

China launches military observation satellite

China launched an optical Earth observation satellite April 30, beginning a mission designed to provide detailed reconnaissance imagery to the Chinese military.

The Yaogan 34 spacecraft lifted off on top of a medium-class Long March 4C rocket at 3:27 a.m. EDT (0727 GMT) on Friday, April 30, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp., or CASC, the country’s leading state-owned space program contractor.

The Long March 4C rocket took off from the Jiuquan launch base in the Gobi Desert of northwestern China, carrying the Yaogan 34 satellite to an orbit around 680 miles (1,100 kilometers) in altitude.

The three-stage, liquid-fueled Long March 4C rocket flew southeast from Jiuquan, dropping its spent booster stage and payload shroud onto Chinese territory on the way into orbit. U.S. military tracking data indicated the mission deployed the Yaogan 34 spacecraft into the expected orbit with an inclination of 63.4 degrees to the equator.

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency said Yaogan 34 is an optical remote sensing satellite that “will be used for the survey of land resources, urban planning, the confirmation of land rights, road network design, crop yield estimation, and disaster prevention and reduction.”

The Earth observation craft also has a military purpose. China uses the Yaogan name as a cover for military spy satellites.

In a post-launch statement, CASC said the Yaogan 34 satellite will provide support “for the implementation of major national strategies and the modernization of national defense.”

The launch of Yaogan 34 was the 12th orbital launch attempt from China so far this year. Eleven of the missions have been successful.

China launches new remote-sensing satellites
Xinhua | Updated: 2021-05-07 08:58

XICHANG - China successfully sent a remote-sensing satellite group into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Southwest China's Sichuan province on Friday.

Belonging to the Yaogan-30 family, the satellites were launched by a Long March-2C carrier rocket at 2:11 am Beijing time.

The satellites will be used for electromagnetic environmental detection and related technological tests.

Also aboard was a satellite belonging to the Tianqi constellation. The satellite, Tianqi-12, will be used for data collection and transmission.

It was the 369th mission of the Long March rocket series.

China launches four satellites on Long March 2C rocket

(...) The satellites are the eighth triplet of Yaogan 30-type spacecraft since 2017 launched on Long March 2C rockets from the Xichang facility into similar orbits. The three Yaogan 30-08 satellites launched Thursday are designed for “electromagnetic environmental detection and related technological tests,” China’s state-run Xinhua news agency said.

The Chinese government uses the Yaogan name for the country’s military satellites, and the Yaogan 30 family is believed to be designed for a signals intelligence mission.

Some analysts suggested the Yaogan 30 family of satellites could be testing new electronic eavesdropping equipment, or helping the Chinese military track U.S. and other foreign naval deployments. But details about the spacecraft and their missions have not been disclosed by the Chinese government.

The other satellite launched Thursday was Tianqi 12, a small commercial data relay satellite for the Beijing-based company Guodian Gaoke. (...)

China successfully launches new ocean observation satellite
Source: Xinhua| 2021-05-19 13:06:21|Editor: huaxia

JIUQUAN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China sent a new ocean-monitoring satellite on Wednesday into orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.

A Long March-4B rocket carrying the Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) satellite took off at 12:03 p.m. (Beijing Time), according to the launch center.

The HY-2D will form a constellation with the HY-2B and HY-2C satellites to build an all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system of high frequency and medium and large scale.

The constellation will support the country's early warning and prediction of marine disasters, sustainable development and utilization of ocean resources, effective response to global climate change as well as ocean research.

The HY-2D was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, and the carrier rocket by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology.

Wednesday's launch was the 370th by the Long March rocket series. Enditem

(...) The Haiyang 2D satellite was built by the China Academy of Space Technology, a state-owned aerospace manufacturer, for China’s Ministry of Natural Resources. The new oceanography satellite, which hosts a radar altimeter and microwave scatterometer, will collect data on sea surface height, wave height, and maritime wind fields, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp., the country’s primary government-run space contractor.

The spacecraft also has a payload to track ship traffic and a data collection system to relay measurements from ocean buoys to forecast centers and other users.

The Haiyang satellite series is named for the Chinese word for “ocean.”

China operates two families of Haiyang satellites — the Haiyang 1-series and Haiyang 2-series — that carry different sets of oceanography instruments. The latest member of the Haiyang 1 family, Haiyang 1D, launched last year with imaging sensors to measure ocean color, data which officials said will help track pollution and natural ocean constituents such as chlorophyll.
