NASA i Axiom Space podpisały zamówienie na trzecią prywatną misję astronautów na ISS z datą rozpoczęcia NET listopad 2023. Praktycznie zatem powinien to być 2024.

Oczekuje się, że misja Axiom-3 spędzi 14 dni na stacji kosmicznej.

Axiom Space przedstawi czterech proponowanych członków załogi i dwóch członków załogi rezerwowej na misję Ax-3.

NASA wymaga, aby wszyscy prywatni operatorzy misji załogowych wybrali astronautę NASA, który wcześniej odbył lot do ISS. Po sprawdzeniu i zatwierdzeniu przez NASA i jej międzynarodowych partnerów, zostaną wybrani główni członkowie załogi misji.

Średnia wieku załogi wynosi 50,25 lat.

NASA Selects Axiom Space for Third Private Astronaut Station Mission

The order also identifies capabilities NASA may obtain from Axiom Space, including the return of scientific samples that must be kept cold in transit to and from Earth, return cargo capability, and the capability to use the private astronaut mission commander’s time during the docked mission to complete NASA science or perform tasks for NASA.

Through Reimbursable Space Act Agreements, Axiom Space will reimburse NASA for services to enable the mission, such as training for crew members and use of facilities at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston and Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In addition, SpaceX has a Reimbursable Space Act Agreement with Kennedy for launch services.

NASA made the selection for the third private astronaut mission from proposals received in response to its September 2022 NASA Research Announcement and evaluated the mission proposals based on the provider’s ability to execute a mission successfully, NASA’s ability to support the proposed mission, and the mission’s contribution to the agency’s goal of low-Earth orbit commercialization. NASA also solicited proposals for a fourth private astronaut mission opportunity in 2024 and will announce the mission after successful completion of negotiations results in an award.

Wearing a spacesuit and a big smile, ESA project astronaut Marcus Wandt trains inside a SpaceX Dragon vehicle in California, USA. Marcus is preparing for his Axiom 3 Mission (Ax-3) to the International Space Station, scheduled to launch no earlier than 10 January 2024, European time.

“The inside of the spacecraft has the smell of a new car,” Marcus says. The Swedish astronaut was used to the warm smell inside the cockpit of fighter jets, where he has flown as a military fighter and test pilot over the last two decades.

Propolis extract is a natural product from bees, called "bee glue," used for hive construction and maintenance, which is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. The first part of this research project, called Pranet, is a STEM project led by 13 and 14-year-old students aiming to investigate the effect of propolis extract on bacteria in microgravity. If the experiments prove that propolis extract can exhibit anti-microbial properties in space, this could open avenues for future research on new and natural product-based cleaning agents for future spaceflight applications.

The second part of this project, called Algalspace, includes conducting a comparative study of Antarctic and temperate microalgae cultivation under the conditions in space. The information gathered will help make a valuable contribution to studies aiming to provide sustainable bioregenerative life support systems for space missions.

Dragon przybywa do hangaru na pad 39A na Florydzie przed przyszłotygodniowym wystrzeleniem Ax-3 Falcona 9 na stację kosmiczną.
