This Moon’s ripe for the picking. 🍓🌕

The Full Strawberry Moon rises and peaks early tomorrow morning, June 11 at 3:44 a.m. EDT. While it won’t be pink, it did earn its name from indigenous tribes who marked June as the ideal time for harvesting wild strawberries.

Have you grown or harvested any strawberries this year?

3:44 a.m. EDT to u nas 9:44.

Look up tonight for something sweet!
The full Strawberry Moon, named by the Algonquin tribes for the time of year that berries ripen, will take to the night skies on June 10-11.

Our FLIP rover’s final design is taking shape as we prepare it for its upcoming mission to the Moon. 🌖

As testing is underway and parts are finalized, we’re excited to see the lunar rover taking its final form.

Falcon 9 Impact on the Moon

I know that this video—unlike those pampered nonsense videos circulating on the networks—won't be shared as much, but it's real. (By the way, in many of those fake videos, you can see an object impacting into the Letronne crater, which, however, lies completely elsewhere than the actual impact site.)

The video shows ejected material rising above the surface just after the second stage of the Falcon 9 impacted the Moon. It was captured by astronomers from the Spanish Astrophysical Institute in Andalusia (IAA-CSIC). The dark area corresponds to the lunar disk, which was deliberately artificially obscured during filming so as not to overexpose the night background against which the cloud could be observed. It's clear that the video is sped up, but it hasn't been published yet how much.

💥 But we have more evidence of the impact: The VLT telescope of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile detected spectral lines of sodium and lithium in the cloud. The sodium comes from the disturbed lunar soil, while the lithium likely originates directly from the rocket's debris.

The Apollo 11 seismometer returned data for just three weeks, but provided a useful first look at lunar seismology. More advanced seismometers were deployed at the Apollo 12, 14, 15, and 16 landing sites and transmitted data to Earth until September 1977.

Approximately 12,000 moonquakes were recorded during these 8 years. Some of these events were shallow, but most were deep events, located halfway towards the center of the Moon at a depth range of 700-1200 km (435-745 miles).

Meteor impact risk for moon bases?
Serious question: Given that the crew of Artemis II observed (in just one hour) 4-6 meteor impact flashes large enough to be observed from >4,000mi (6500km) away, what does that bode for the survivability of Moon bases like the one depicted here by S.O.M.?
