Czy załogi w zimowym treningu muszą spać wewnątrz kapsuły lub namiotów? Jaka jest minimalna temperatura, jakiej doświadczają?

Śpią w namiotach podgrzewanych ogniskiem, temperatura minimalna to około minus 20 stopni! W tym roku jest dużo śniegu.

Na szczęście szkolenie trwa maksymalnie 48 godziny w takich warunkach.

Astronomer replaces fighter pilot in private bid to be first German woman in space:

— A private effort to launch the first German woman into space has a new potential candidate.

Suzanna Randall, an astronomer with ESO, the European Southern Observatory in Garching, was announced as the new trainee for Die Astronautin (The Female Astronaut) on Friday (Feb. 16), replacing a fighter pilot who dropped out of the privately-run program in December. Randall will now compete with meteorologist Insa Thiele-Eich, the daughter of veteran German astronaut Gerhard Thiele, for a chance to become the first woman from Germany to launch to the International Space Station on a privately-funded mission.

"I want to show that it is possible for ordinary women to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become an astronaut," said Randall in a statement.

After the U.S. and Russia, Germany is tied with China for having sent more of its citizens into orbit than astronauts from any other country, a total of eleven since 1978. All of the German space travelers, and a twelfth now in training, have been men.

"And I think it is important that women are represented at all levels of society. It should go without saying that women work in space," said Randall.

Die Astronautin was launched almost two years ago by the aerospace recruitment agency HE Space to inspire young women in Germany to take up careers in space, science, mathematics and technology, as well as to launch the first female German astronaut into space. From an initial pool of 400 applicants, six semi-finalists were chosen, including Randall.

Thiele-Eich and Nicola Baumann were named as the Die Astronautin finalists in April 2017. Eight months later, after both women had begun training activities, Baumann chose to resign.

"I want to continue to be an astronaut, but this way is just not right for me," Baumann told the weekly German news magazine Der Spiegel in an interview. "The initiative and I do not go together."

Claudia Kessler, the CEO of HE Space and founder of Die Astronautin, said at the time one of the other semi-finalists would take Baumann's place, as has become the case.

"We regret the departure of Ms. Baumann, understand her motives and wish her all the best," said Kessler.

"We are pleased Suzanna Randall can jump directly into training with her previous knowledge as an astrophysicist," she added in a statement released Friday.

Born in Cologne, Randall studied astronomy in the United Kingdom before graduating from the University of Montreal in Canada with a doctorate in astrophysics.

Randall began her career at ESO as a fellow and is now involved with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), a global partnership that operates the world's largest radio telescope in the Chilean Atacama desert. ALMA comprises 66 giant antennas observing millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths and is the most powerful observatory for the study of the cool and the distant universe.

The 38-year-old astronomer also focuses studies on the evolution of pulsating, blue sub-dwarf stars. She has been an avid paraglider, is a trained yoga instructor and enjoys winter sports, according to an ESO profile.

Over the next two years, Randall will compete against 34-year-old Thiele-Eich for a single seat on a space mission. Their training will include becoming familiar with systems aboard the space station, as well as taking part in "zero-g" parabolic flights, survival, flight and robotics training.

The ongoing training activities are funded in part by Airbus. Die Astronautin has yet to raise the 50 million euros (about $62 million) required for the mission to the space station, nor has it publicly identified the type of spacecraft it plans to use to launch Thiele-Eich or Randall into orbit.

ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst (DE) is assigned to fly on the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft to the International Space Station, scheduled for launch in June 2018. His crew mates will be NASA astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor and Russian spacecraft commander Sergei Prokopyev.

Expedition 56 is scheduled to begin with the undocking of Soyuz MS-07, with the new crew members arriving shortly thereafter on Soyuz MS-09. Expedition 56 consists of NASA's Drew Feustel, Ricky Arnold and Serena Auñón-Chancellor, Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokopyev, and ESA's Alexander Gerst.

Designed by Luc van den Abeelen, the circular shape of the Soyuz MS-09 crew patch symbolises the shape of the globe, inside of which the Belukha mountain is visible: the highest peak of the Altai, representing the crew's callsign. A trio of white swans flying over Earth towards the International Space Station symbolise the three crew members. The six stars shown against the black background of space are for the members making up the successive ISS Expedition crews. The golden silhouette of the orbital outpost is shown at the top of the emblem. Below are the numbers of the main expeditions.

The Roscosmos logo is placed in the middle of the inscription 'Soyuz MS-09'. The crew members' names are put along the emblem's inner border with the crew commander's name underneath the flying spaceship Soyuz. The outer border is made up of the astronauts' national flags.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), a national research and development agency, is delighted to announce today that JAXA Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide was selected as a crew member of the International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 64/65. He will be the second Japanese to assume the post of commander on the ISS in leading the 65th Expedition.

Selected as a JAXA astronaut candidate in 1999, Astronaut Hoshide was launched as a mission specialist (MS) aboard the Space Shuttle in June 2008 for the second of three missions to deliver the Japanese Experiment Module (“Kibo”) to the ISS. In July 2012, he also flew aboard the Soyuz spacecraft (31st launch of crew members to the ISS: 31S), working onboard for 124 days as flight engineer for the ISS Expedition 32/33 mission. The ISS Expedition 64/65 will be the third spaceflight for Astronaut Hoshide.

    Period of stay in space: Approximately six months starting around May of 2020
    Mission:
    Expedition 64 (approx. four months): Activities as the ISS Flight Engineer, mainly consisting of maintenance of the ISS facilities (including “Kibo”), scientific experiments, and manipulation of the Mobile Servicing System (MSS)
    Expedition 65 (approx. two months): In addition to the above activities, taking the lead as ISS Commander for a successful mission and ensured safety of the crew
    Project schedule: Training necessary for the long-duration stay on the ISS scheduled to begin around autumn 2019

Wydaje mi się, że tego w tej chwili nie wie naprawdę nikt!

Mi się wydaje, że póki loty regularne Dragonów i CST nie będą się odbywały to mogą być niezłe przetasowania w załogach. Bo to że na początku będą opóźnienia poszczególnych misji na pewno mocno wpłynie na pobyt poszczególnych misji.

Może nawet będziemy mieli kolejny "roczny lot" tym razem mimo intencji

Wg informacji z JAXA astronauta Akihiko Hoshide ma wziąć udział w misji 64, a nawet dowodzić załogą 65 MSK.

To oznacza wyraźnie zwiększenie obecności Japończyków na Stacji.
Przypominam, że ta sama JAXA podała, że Soichi Noguchi będzie w załodze 62/63.
Czyli pan Hoshide będzie załogantem Stacji praktycznie zaraz po nim.
Może nawet podadzą sobie ręce, jeżeli wymiana załóg będzie w trybie "direct handover".

Kolejnych imiennych wyborów poszczególnych astronautów nie widziałem - na poziomie dokumentów i ustaleń między agencjami być może coś już być.

Czy w takim razie lot Tichonowa ma sens?
Tichonow ma polecieć Sojuzem MS-10 od września 2018 do lutego 2019.
Miał brać udział w przygotowaniu do przycumowania Nauki i w samym przycumowaniu.
Co on teraz będzie robił?
A może nastąpi jakaś zmiana w załodze Sojuza MS-10 i w jego miejsce poleci ktoś inny?
Czy ktokolwiek zdąży się przygotować?
A do września "kruca bomba! mało casu".
