Podsumowanie roku 2016: Świat

Chyba czas i na taki wątek. Z moich przemyśleń, co będziemy wspominać po 2016.

- ITS i Elon Musk na IAC 2016
- Testy modułu BEAM na ISS
- Roczny lot na ISS
- Shenzhou-11 i misja Tiangong-2
- ExoMars 2016 (TGO i łubududu)
- Koniec misji Rosetta
- Start Osiris-REX
- Zakończenie przesyłania danych z New Horizons
- Prace przy Commercial Crew
- Bum Falcona 9 podczas testów tankowania
- Rada Ministerialna ESA

Zatem niewiele ważnego wydarzyło się w 2016 r. Wprawdzie lista, która sporządziłeś, jest dosyć szeroka, ale chyba niewiele z niej naprawdę zostanie zapamiętane. Chyba tylko udany eksperyment z BEAM-em ma szanse by zapisać się w historii.

Z takich mniej głośnych wydarzeń, które jednak z perspektywy czasu mogą okazać się ważne, dodałbym jeszcze:
- wybór przez NASA beneficjentów programu NextSTEP-2 (to prawdopodobnie w tym gronie będzie powstawał kształt przyszłych baz cis-lunar i marsjańskich),
- rozpoczęcie rozmów na temat przyszłej międzynarodowej stacji cis-lunar (rozmowy pewno rozpoczęły się wcześniej, ale w tym roku coś-niecoś upubliczniono, można więc przypuszczać, że pomysł zaczyna mieć szanse na realizację).

Wydaje mi się, że za mało doceniamy roczną misję na ISS, która się skończyła w marcu 2016. Po tej misji nastąpią kolejne, zanim ISS przestanie być używana. Są to naprawdę ważne kroki ku lotom poza bezpośrednie otoczenie Ziemi. Bez takich kroczków lot na Marsa się zwyczajnie nie uda.

Dodać jeszcze można wejście na orbitę wokół Jowisza sondy Juno i bardzo bliskie przeloty owocujące zebraniem danych naukowych - chyba jedno z najważniejszych zdarzeń astronautycznych w 2016.
Pojawienie się problemów z silnikiem głównym na razie  opóźnia zacieśnienie orbity.

Sonda Cassini weszła  w ostatnią fazę  misji , zmieniając orbitę na taką , która dostarcza już nowych i pełniejszych danych.

Na Ceres odkryto lodowy wulkan.

Podjęto decyzję o zmniejszeniu liczebności załóg ISS od 2017.
Pojawiły się problemy z wdrażaniem nowej wersji statku załogowego Sojuz - MS.
Pierwszy start z kosmodromu Wostoczny m. in z satelitą astronomicznym  Łomonosow.
CZ-5 - start pierwszej ciężkiej chińskiej rakiety.
Mozi  to chiński satelita eksperymentalny do komunikacji kwantowej.
Satelita teledetekcyjny WorldView-4  pokazał  swoje możliwości w zakresie obrazowania szczegółów terenu w wysokiej rozdzielczości.
LISA PATHFINDER - testowanie technologii do przyszłego wykrywania fal grawitacyjnych wypadło bardzo optymistycznie.

Upubliczniono projekt RN New Glenn
SpaceX opublikował informacje nt misji na Marsa.
Misja HST została przedłużona o 5 lat.
Wyznaczenie nowej daty startu sondy InSight.

W perspektywie przyszłych misji międzyplanetarnych bardzo ważne jest wznowienie przez USA  produkcji plutonu 238.

Do większych porażek można zaliczyć rozpad japońskiego satelity astronomicznego Hitomi.

Spektakularne zdjęcia satelity Sentinel 1A po uderzeniu mikrometeoroidem.

The first few months of 2016 for Curiosity were relatively quiet as the rover and its Earth-based controllers slowly guided the massive, mobile science laboratory through the roughest terrain the rover has thus far encountered during its time on Mars.

It was big year for space news as well, as a team working with the European Space Agency's Rosetta orbiter project confirmed that water ice was found on the surface of comet 67P—solving a longstanding mystery. Meanwhile, another team working with NASA's New Horizons project published imagery that revealed a small, frozen lake on Pluto. And a team at Wageningen University in the Netherlands announced that Dutch produce grown on 'Mars' soil was found safe to eat—four types of vegetables were grown in the soil that did not pull up heavy metals, offering the potential of feeding future astronauts. Also, data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, revealed that the black hole at the center of a galaxy named NGC 1068 was actually the source of its own exhaust. And Viking experimenters Gilbert Levin and Patricia Straat asked whether the 40-year-old Viking experiment discovered life on Mars. They believe the first Mars landers might have done just that, and published a perspective piece in the journal Astrobiology offering evidence.

YIR III: From dwarfs to giants – the missions of Dawn, Juno, and Cassini

At the end of June, NASA announced findings that Occator’s bright areas contain the highest concentration of carbonate minerals ever seen outside Earth.

“This is the first time we see this kind of material elsewhere in the solar system in such a large amount,” said Maria Cristina De Sanctis, principal investigator of Dawn’s visible and infrared mapping spectrometer.

Specifically, the dominant mineral of this bright area is sodium carbonate, a salt found on Earth in hydrothermal environments.

On Ceres, the material appears to have come from inside the dwarf planet, having been lifted to the surface by an impacting asteroid – which suggests that temperatures inside Ceres are warmer than previously believed.

More intriguingly, the results suggest that liquid water may have existed beneath the surface of Ceres in recent geologic time and that the salts could be remnants of an ocean, or localized bodies of water, that reached the surface and then froze millions of years ago.

“The minerals we’ve found at the Occator central bright area require alteration by water,” De Sanctis said.  “Carbonates support the idea that Ceres had interior hydrothermal activity, which pushed these materials to the surface within Occator.”

YIR IV: New Horizons returns all data of Pluto, a small world with big surprises

“Sputnik Planitia is one of Pluto’s crown jewels, and understanding its origin is a puzzle,” said Alan Stern.  “Whatever caused it to form, nothing like it exists anywhere else in the solar system.  Work to understand it will continue, but whatever that origin is, one thing is for certain – the exploration of Pluto has created new puzzles for 21st century planetary science.”

YIR V: ‘Planet Nine’ – Pushing the boundaries of the solar system

(...) Nine could have formed with the rest of the solar system in an extremely distant, circular orbit that was then perturbed to its current eccentricity when the solar system passed close to another star in its birth cluster.

This type of formation would radically reshape our understanding of the early solar system as the Sun would either 1) have to have possessed a massive disk of material far larger and more expansive than previously thought possible or 2) there would have to have been a major outward drift of solid material escaping the accreting disk that formed the eight planets.  This outward drifting material would then have had to form a ring in which Planet Nine would then have accreted.

Under this model, with such a distant and eccentric orbit, the odds that Planet Nine would not have been stolen by another star are only 10%, meaning the planet would have to have beaten extraordinary odds to remain with the solar system through its birth and dissolution of the Sun’s birth cluster.
