Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Swap and Commercial Resupply Services (CRS)-2 Feasibility Assessment: The crew will review an overview of the EMU swap plan. EMU 3004 launched to ISS on Dragon in the Short EMU (SEMU) Launch Enclosure (SLE) and EMU 3010 will be returning. The crew will transfer the SLE with EMU 3004 to Node 1 and remove the EMU. They will swap the Vent Port and Battery Connector Covers between EMU 3004 and 3010. The SLE will be reinstalled into Dragon using new upper mounting pins and then EMU 3010 will be installed into the SLE in the Dragon cabin. The hatch for CRS-2 will be too small to allow the SLE to be transferred to Node 1, so EMU rotations will need to occur in the CRS-2 Dragon cabin. Performing the installation of EMU 3010 into the SLE in the Dragon cabin will build confidence and provide feedback for performing the swaps on CRS-2.
Simplified Aid for Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Rescue (SAFER) Swap: SAFER 1016, on orbit has expired and SAFER 1018 was delivered on Dragon. The crew will unpack SAFER 1018, install the battery, and perform a checkout. They will pack SAFER 1016 for return on Dragon.

The USOS crew spent the afternoon in the airlock swapping out components, and one suit, which now sits in the crew lock. EMUs 3004 and 3006 are now mounted in the airlock.

Najbliższy spacer w amerykańskich skafandrach zaplanowany jest na 28.08., w czasie którego ma być zamontowany węzeł cumowniczy IDA-3, który ma być dostarczony na pokładzie statku transportowego
Dragon CRS-18 (http://www.forum.kosmonauta.net/index.php?topic=3679.0). Mają w nim wziąć udział astronauci Hague i Morgan.
Do końca roku jest zaplanowane jeszcze przynajmniej 9 amerykańskich spacerów kosmicznych.

Inside the HTV's pressurized cabin is more than 5,300 pounds of science equipment, spare parts, spacewalk equipment, computer gear and crew supplies. The batteries are mounted on a pallet in the cargo ship's unpressurized trunk section.
The power packs will be pulled out by the robot arm later. They will be installed during five spacewalks on the far left side of the lab's solar power truss. The spacewalks, or EVAs, are tentatively planned for Oct. 6, 11, 16, 21 and 25.

The first spacewalk is set for Sunday, Oct. 6, with NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Andrew Morgan. The duo will begin installing new lithium-ion batteries delivered last week aboard Japan’s HTV-8 cargo craft. There will be four more spacewalks in October to continue the activation of the new batteries on the station’s Port-6 truss structure.

Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Maintenance: The crew retrieved EMUs 3006 and 3009 and removed the Lower Torso Assembly (LTA) stowage bags. They then installed the bags on EMUs 3004 and 3008. This reconfiguration is in preparation for a planned EVA in April. Currently the crew is performing a full dump and fill on EMUs 3006 and 3009 to meet annual maintenance requirements.

USOS EVA preparation: The crew began preparing for the upcoming 4A ISS Roll-Out Solar Array (IROSA) Prep EVA. The crew gathered tools and performed an inspection of the safety tethers, waist tethers, and D-Ring extenders. The USOS EVA is currently planned for August 25th.

NASA Flight Engineer Mark Vande Hei joined Commander Akihiko Hoshide gathering spacewalking tools and checking spacesuit tethers inside the U.S. Quest airlock. The crew is ramping up for a spacewalk to prepare the orbital lab’s Port-4 truss structure ahead of the installation of the next set of roll out solar arrays.

Spacewalk is Postponed
The U.S. spacewalk outside the International Space Station originally planned for Tuesday, Aug. 24 with NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide has been postponed due to a minor medical issue involving Vande Hei. This issue is not a medical emergency. The spacewalk is not time-sensitive and crew members are continuing to move forward with other station work and activities. Teams are assessing the next available opportunity to conduct the spacewalk following the SpaceX CRS-23 cargo resupply launch planned for Aug. 28 and upcoming Russian spacewalks. The preview briefing Aug. 23 is also being rescheduled and will be announced at a later date.

Next, crew removed the EMU Data Recorder (EDaR), EDaR Antenna, EDaR Antenna Cable, and High-Definition EMU Camera Assembly (HECA) from EMU 3006, which is returning on SpX-24. Finally, crew completed the termination of the EVA Battery Operations Terminal Autocycle of EVA Li-Ion Batteries.

Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Operations: EMU 3015 encountered a hardline communications issue during a previous EMU preparation activity. Today, the crew worked with the ground team to troubleshoot and isolate where the squealing sound is coming from. Additionally, the crew performed an EMU Swap to reconfigure EMUs on EMU Don-Doff Assemblies (EDDAs) for upcoming activities.

Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Preparations: The crew continued its preparation for the two EVAs in March. For today’s preparations, the crew started by degassing two EVA Contingency Water Container-Iodinated (CWC-I) bags. Next, they removed two EVA Batteries from the Battery Stowage Compartment for use in Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) 3009 and EMU 3013. With the batteries installed in the two EMUs, the crew then performed a feedwater tank half dump and fill on both EMUs to add iodinated water from the degassed CWC-I bags to satisfy EMU maintenance requirements for on-orbit stowage. Finally, to wrap up the preparations, they restowed the batteries and reconfigured the EMUs on the EMU Don-Doff Assemblies (EDDAs) for upcoming activities.

Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMUs) 3004/3015 EVA Prep: The crew removed the lithium-ion batteries from the EMU Battery Stowage Compartment, and performed EMU water loop scrubs as well as acquired and tested water samples for conductivity on EMU units 3004 and 3015. Additionally, the crew installed the ORU Scrubber to scrub and iodinate the water lines. EMU Loop Scrubs are required preventive maintenance needed to remove any chemical and biological contaminants from the EMU transport loop. The next activity performed by crew included an EVA Tool configuration, followed by water recharges on EMUs 3004 and 3015. The recharges ensure there is a full supply of fresh cooling water to each EMU suit. Additionally, the crew filled Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garments (LCVGs) with water from EMU water tanks.

Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Resize: The crew swapped the lower arms from EMUs 3003 and 3004 before staging them for return on SpX-30. Additionally, the lower arms were gathered and staged in the Airlock for return as well. The EMU is the space suit currently used by astronauts to perform an Extravehicular Activity (EVA) from the ISS Joint Airlock. It is an independent anthropomorphic system that provides environmental protection, mobility, life support, and communications for the crewmember performing the EVA. The EMU Lower Arm Assembly incorporates the elbow joint and wrist disconnect for these suits.
