Ciekawe: bez USA, za to z Chinami. Rosja sygnalizowała już, że może wybrać współpracę z Chinami zamiast ze Stanami, ale Europa?

Chińczycy mówią w tym artykule, że "the construction plan for the station is expected to be completed after two to three years of deliberations by an international team of scientists".

Continuing the Apollo legacy: Study shows that the Moon is older than previously believed
Source: University of Cologne

This sample is an ilmenite basalt collected during Apollo 12. It has glass on it, deposited by the splash of material when another basalt was struck by an impactor. Samples like 12054 allow us to reconstruct the history of the Moon with the stories they tell. Credit: Maxwell Thiemens, 2019

A new study spearheaded by Earth scientists at the University of Cologne’s Institute of Geology and Mineralogy has constrained the age of the Moon to approximately 50 million years after the formation of the solar system. After the formation of the solar system, 4.56 billion years ago, the Moon formed approximately 4.51 billion years ago. The new study has thus determined that the Moon is significantly older than previously believed – earlier research had estimated the Moon to have formed approximately 150 million years after solar system’s formation. To achieve these results, the scientists analysed the chemical composition of a diverse range of samples collected during the Apollo missions. The study ‘Early Moon formation inferred from hafnium–tungsten systematics’ was published in Nature Geoscience. (...)

Studying hafnium and tungsten on the Moon are particularly important because they constitute a natural radioactive clock of the isotope hafnium-182 decaying into tungsten-182. This radioactive decay only lasted for the first 70 million years of the solar system. By combining the hafnium and tungsten information measured in the Apollo samples with information from laboratory experiments, the study finds that the Moon already started solidifying as early as 50 million years after solar system formed. ‘This age information means that any giant impact had to occur before that time, which answers a fiercely debated question amongst the scientific community regarding when the Moon formed,’ adds Professor Dr Carsten Münker from the UoC’s Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, senior author of the study. PTScientists wracają do gry  :)!

Troche o planach indyjsko-japonskich. Co dokladnie wyladuej za 3 lata na biegunie:
Launch date 2023~
Launcher JAXA’s H3 rocket
Mass of the rover ~350 kg
Mission duration More than 2 months
Landing site Lunar polar region (> 85 degrees in latitude)

Model instruments and operation: JAXA set
model instrumentsfor this mission to obtain information
regarding water to evaluate possibility for utilizing water as a resource in the future missions. The model instruments were set to help designing the rover though
instrument selection procedures have not yet started.
The model instruments are; neutron spectrometer, infrared spectral imager, ground penetrating radar, direct water measurement package (consist of a thermogravimetric analyzer, mass spectrometer, and cavity ring-down
spectrometer). By conducting measurements from the
surface and of the heated regolith samples, we are going
to obtain direct evidence of the presence of water. And
also, will get information of its abundance, distribution,
and condensation mechanism and origin (see Karouji et
al. in this meeting for the detail discussion of the instrument specification and their operation plan).

Koncepcje lądowników księżycowych NASA po Apollo
BY KRZYSZTOF KANAWKA ON 23 CZERWCA 2020

XX wieku o masie nieco przekraczającej 5 ton. (...)

Researchers develop dustbuster for the moon
Published: Aug. 31, 2020 • By Daniel Strain

(...) Electron beams offered a promising solution. According to a theory developed from recent scientific studies of how dust naturally lofts on the lunar surface, such a device could turn the electric charges on particles of dust into a weapon against them. If you hit a layer dust with a stream of electrons, Wang said, that dusty surface will collect additional negative charges. Pack enough charges into the spaces in between the particles, and they may begin to push each other away—much like magnets do when the wrong ends are forced together.

"The charges become so large that they repel each other, and then dust ejects off of the surface," Wang said.

Electron showers

To test the idea, he and his colleagues loaded a vacuum chamber with various materials coated in a NASA-manufactured "lunar simulant" designed to resemble moon dust.

And sure enough, after aiming an electron beam at those particles, the dust poured off, usually in just a few minutes. The trick worked on a wide range of surfaces, too, including spacesuit fabric and glass. This new technology aims at cleaning the finest dust particles, which are difficult to remove using brushes, Wang said. The method was able to clean dusty surfaces by an average of about 75-85%. The Moon Is Rusting, and Researchers Want to Know Why
Sept. 2, 2020

(...)
Three Key Ingredients

Their paper offers a three-pronged model to explain how rust might form in such an environment. For starters, while the Moon lacks an atmosphere, it is in fact home to trace amounts of oxygen. The source of that oxygen: our planet. Earth's magnetic field trails behind the planet like a windsock. In 2007, Japan's Kaguya orbiter discovered that oxygen from Earth's upper atmosphere can hitch a ride on this trailing magnetotail, as it's officially known, traveling the 239,000 miles (385,00 kilometers) to the Moon.

That discovery fits with data from M3, which found more hematite on the Moon's Earth-facing near side than on its far side. "This suggested that Earth's oxygen could be driving the formation of hematite," Li said. The Moon has been inching away from Earth for billions of years, so it's also possible that more oxygen hopped across this rift when the two were closer in the ancient past.

Then there's the matter of all that hydrogen being delivered by the solar wind. As a reducer, hydrogen should prevent oxidation from occurring. But Earth's magnetotail has a mediating effect. Besides ferrying oxygen to the Moon from our home planet, it also blocks over 99% of the solar wind during certain periods of the Moon's orbit (specifically, whenever it's in the full Moon phase). That opens occasional windows during the lunar cycle when rust can form.

The third piece of the puzzle is water. While most of the Moon is bone dry, water ice can be found in shadowed lunar craters on the Moon's far side. But the hematite was detected far from that ice. The paper instead focuses on water molecules found in the lunar surface. Li proposes that fast-moving dust particles that regularly pelt the Moon could release these surface-borne water molecules, mixing them with iron in the lunar soil. Heat from these impacts could increase the oxidation rate; the dust particles themselves may also be carrying water molecules, implanting them into the surface so that they mix with iron. During just the right moments – namely, when the Moon is shielded from the solar wind and oxygen is present – a rust-inducing chemical reaction could occur. (...)
