During the test, Sergei Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin will take their places in #SoyuzMS22 wearing their Sokol spacesuits. Andrei Fedyaev will take Frank Rubio’s seat (without a spacesuit).
They will turn on the ship’s systems and simulate the return from orbit which usually takes about 5 hours. The main goal will be to check how much the previously damaged ship will heat up and whether it can be used for emergency evacuation from the ISS in case of any incident.
The experiment can be interrupted by Mission Control in following cases:
- due to the physical condition of the crew;
- if the temperature in the descent module reaches 31° C at 95% humidity;
- at 40° C in the service module;
- at 45° C heating of the main computer.
Cosmonauts are allowed to take some water and food with them for five hours of work, turn on the system for removing moisture from the air, and will work only with paper documentation. Tablets cannot be turned on, they heat the air.
According to the Izvestia source, in case of interruption of the experiment due to poor health of the crew, the command is given not to turn off the onboard systems until they reach the limit values.
The most intriguing question is why Roscosmos conducts experiments on humans if they already decided that the cause of Soyuz MS-22 and Progress MS-21 damage were sporadic meteors and space debris, and the crew has an operational Soyuz MS-23 for return? I have a hunch.
If you remember, some time ago the anonymous sources said that some experts in Roscosmos doubt the meteor damage theory. They believe, the damage could be caused by a manufacturing defect. If so, it means that Soyuz MS-23 may have the same defect, and take the same damage.
In this case it would be important to know if a damaged ship can take the crew safely to Earth. It will also help to understand if the earlier return of Soyuz MS-23 with the crew is necessary.

3) Testy zakończone
