W dniu 5.09.2016 zmarł w wieku 85 lat były astronauta NASA nielot Duane Edgar "Doc' Graveline (http://lk.astronautilus.pl/astros/graveline.htm).

Pozwolę sobie tylko skomentować jeden kawałek życiorysu pana Graveline’a.
Przyjęty do 4 grupy NASA 28 czerwca 1965.
Odszedł (według „Lotów kosmicznych” i innych encyklopedii internetowych) 18 sierpnia 1965.
Czyli był „astronautą” NASA przez niecałe dwa miesiące.
Dostrzegłem, że jakby wbrew tym źródłom, w artykule w collectSpace informującym o śmierci pana Graveline’a, podano, że zrezygnował „after just six months”.
Skąd taka rozbieżność?
Najbardziej „oficjalna” biografia Graveline’a (czyli ta na stronie NASA) nie zawiera daty jego rezygnacji.

"Duane Graveline, one of the nation's scientist-astronauts, is the first to resign before making a space flight," reported the Associated Press in an article published on August 18, 1965. "[NASA] announced that Dr. Graveline had resigned for personal reasons. It said [Graveline] would remain with the Manned Spacecraft Center [Johnson Space Center] as a medical doctor."
I zapewne stąd ta data jego rezygnacji!

Duane Edgar Graveline (02.03.1931-05.09.2016)
1964-1965 Był kierownikiem wydziału analizy danych biologiczno-medycznych uzyskanych z radzieckich statków kosmicznych w Wydziale Technologii Zagranicznych USAF.
Przy pomocy inżynierów elektroników z Laboratorium Medycyny Lotniczej Sił Powietrznych zorganizował odbiór informacji telemetrycznych z radzieckich statków kosmicznych Wostok i Woschod, za pomocą których stale monitorowano bicie serca i częstość oddechów kosmonautów.
Pierwszy amerykański astronauta, który opuścił NASA przed odbyciem lotu kosmicznego.
03.05.2017 dr pułkownik Gwardii Narodowej w stanie spoczynku Duane Edgar Graveline został pochowany na Cmentarzu Narodowym w Arlington w Wirginii.

Before being named an astronaut, he did research on the effects of weightlessness on the body. In 1960, he spent a week floating in a water tank in a rubber suit. Urine tests showed that “the body was literally disposing of unneeded muscle and bone,” he told Newsweek, and he measured the weakness and mental fogginess that he and others experienced upon stepping out of the tank and returning to gravity.
Through his research, he provided some of the earliest proof that astronauts on long-duration flights would need to engage in rigorous exercise to prevent physical decline, and developed techniques and equipment that the space agency has used to combat the effects.
