Start suborbitalny statku New Shepard 15 ma odbyć się 14 kwietnia (środa). Okno startowe otwiera się o 13:00 UTC. Start ma odbyć się tradycyjnie z Launch Site One w Zachodnim Teksasie.
Misja ma stanowić próbę przed startem załogowym. Łącznie z tym, że astronauci zajmą przed starem miejsca w kapsule i przeprowadzą wszystkie przygotowania przedstartowe. Jeśli dobrze pójdzie, to NS-16 będzie już załogowy.
Obszarny fragment z newsletera Blue Origin:
During the mission, astronaut operational exercises will be conducted in preparation for human space flight. The primary operations will entail Blue Origin personnel standing in as astronauts entering into the capsule prior to launch. These astronauts will climb the launch tower, get into their seats, buckle their harnesses, and conduct a communications check from their seat with CAPCOM, the Capsule Communicator. The tower operations team will prepare the capsule cabin for launch and then briefly close the capsule hatch. The astronauts will then exit the capsule prior to launch.
Post-landing, the astronauts will get inside the capsule to rehearse hatch opening, and exiting the capsule at the landing site.
Inside the capsule during the flight will be Mannequin Skywalker, along with more than 25,000 postcards on behalf of Club for the Future, Blue Origin’s nonprofit organization. To participate in the postcards program, visit the Club for the Future website here.
As with previous missions, all mission crew supporting this launch are exercising strict social distancing and safety measures to mitigate COVID-19 risks to personnel and surrounding communities.

Bo nie był pierwotnie w tym dziale, z rozpędu znalazł się obok NS-16 w załogowych!
Ale dzięki adminowi już jest we właściwym miejscu!

W powiększeniu powyższego zdjęcia z ćwierkacza po raz pierwszy widzimy wieżę dostępową do NS-15 i prawdopodobnie do N-16. Windy chyba tam nie ma - nie widać zbyt dobrze. Ale też NS jest sporo niższy od F9 :).

Nie mniej warto oglądać, pokazują trochę reklamówek z wnętrza fabryk Blue Origin, przed chwila pokazali prototyp (makietę?) członu lądownika księżycowego. Niedoceniany łysy Sknerus Mc Kwacz, trochę odsłaniania karty 8).

NS - ma/będzie miał możliwość przycumowania do ISS czy jest to typowo produkt turystyczny z elementami badań naukowych?

NS nie wchodzi na orbitę, czyli do ISS w ,,najlepszym" wypadku może się władować z olbrzymią prędkością względną ;)

NS to mała rakieta suborbitalna - wystarczy porównać jej rozmiary choćby z F9. To, co wczoraj i wcześniej pokazała, to szczyt jej możliwości: loty suborbitalne na trochę ponad 100 km.
Do lotów orbitalnych będzie dopiero służyła rakieta New Glenn, która jest w budowie.

Rakieta New Shepard na stanowisku startowym / Credits – Blue Origin
Lot pojazdu suborbitalnego o oznaczeniu New Shepard nastąpił 14 kwietnia 2021. Start nastąpił około 18:50 CEST. Lot odbył się ze stanowiska firmy Blue Origin w Teksasie – stamtąd też w przyszłości będą wykonywane loty załogowe.
Po udanym locie doszło do lądowania zarówno rakiety (na silniku rakietowym) jak i kapsuły (na spadochronach). Cały lot NS-15 zakończył się po 10 minutach od startu. Osiągnięty pułap lotu przekroczył 106 km. (...)

(...)Wednesday’s flight marked the 15th flight of a New Shepard booster and crew capsule, and the second launch and landing of Blue Origin’s newest reusable rocket and spacecraft.
Blue Origin has already launched scientific experiments to space for NASA, but the New Shepard is designed to fly space tourists, scientists, and commercial and government astronauts above the atmosphere, providing expansive views and a brief taste of microgravity. (...)
Passengers will be able to unstrap from their seats and float around the cabin, and will have a few minutes of weightlessness before climbing back into their seats and falling back into the atmosphere.
Blue Origin personnel rehearsed how customers will board the six-seat crew capsule before Wednesday’s launch. Four employees stood in as astronauts and rode to the launch pad inside a Ford SUV with two support crew members.
After arriving at the pad, the astronaut stand-ins climbed stairs up the launch pad tower and walked across an access gantry leading to the spacecraft sitting atop the already-fueled New Shepard booster. Two employees — Gary Lai, Blue Origin’s New Shepard designer, and Audrey Powers, the company’s vice president of legal and compliance — entered the capsule through the hatch and strapped into seats.
The other four seats aboard the spacecraft — named “RSS First Step” — were occupied by boxes containing children’s postcards and Mannequin Skywalker, Blue Origin’s flight suit-clad test dummy that has flown on past launches.
RSS stands for Reusable Spaceship.
Blue Origin crews at the West Texas test site also practiced how they will help passengers out of the capsule after landing. Recovery teams quickly converged on the spacecraft after touchdown in the desert, and approached the capsule with mobile stairs and other equipment.
The dress rehearsal Wednesday was the first time Blue Origin has practiced in real conditions how it will help passengers board the spacecraft on top of a booster fully loaded with liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants.
The company has not said how much it will charge customers for a ride to the edge of space on the New Shepard rocket. But NASA is interested in flying researchers and astronauts on the booster to conduct scientific experiments and to train for longer-duration flights in orbit.
