December 30, 1931 #Remembering Astronaut Charles "Charlie" Bassett, slated to be Gemini IX pilot, on his #birthday. He died in an airplane crash during training for his first spaceflight (February 28, 1966).

Assigned as the Pilot/EVA crewmember for Gemini 9 he was tragically killed, together with his commander Elliot See, on 28 February 1966.
