Premier: noblista prof. Victor Ambros niedługo będzie formalnie Polakiem
13.03.2026

EPA/CJ GUNTHER 07.11.2024

Laureat Nagrody Nobla w dziedzinie medycyny z 2024 r. prof.

Just 16 of the 186 current national leaders are older than Trump. The oldest leaders are Cameroon President Paul Biya, who is 93, and Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is 90. As Donald Trump turns 80, he faces a foe he can never defeat: Father Time. That’s a problem for us all
David Smith Sun 14 Jun 2026 07.00 CEST Last modified on Sun 14 Jun 2026 16.41 CEST

Alarm over the judgment and behaviour of the world’s most powerful man, and the consequent risks to the world, can only get worse

The main Nuremberg trial ended, Winston Churchill warned of an iron curtain descending across Europe, It’s a Wonderful Life received its premiere and, at Jamaica hospital in the borough of Queens, New York, Donald John Trump was born.

It was 1946, also the birth year of George W Bush and Bill Clinton, but on Sunday the current US president celebrates his 80th birthday in a style uniquely his own. Trump will stage a night of cage fighting on the once-pristine White House south lawn as part of events marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.

The blend of visceral bloodsport with political spectacle under metal scaffolding may offer brief respite for a president also consumed with an unpopular war, rising inflation, plunging poll numbers and a foe not even he can bully, bomb or outrun: Father Time.

“Donald Trump has been showing signs of his age for quite some time,” said Tara Setmayer, a former Republican communications director on Capitol Hill. “It’s on display almost daily as he struggles to stay awake during official meetings, he is more irritable and going on rage tangents and throwing temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way. These are not signs of a well-adjusted adult approaching 80 years old.” (...)

There’s a parallel between ancient Rome and America’s modern republic and it doesn’t bode well for the future of the US
By Dr Liam Byrne, University of Melbourne Dr Liam Byrne Published 31 March 2025

As political commentators scramble to comprehend just what is happening in the United States, one ready parallel keeps coming up.

Time and again President Donald Trump’s regime is compared to the ancient reign of the Caesars, the Roman emperors synonymous with unrestrained power and excess.

The comparisons are understandable.

The United States confronts a tyranny unprecedented in its history: the replacement of the rule of the people with the domination of one man (and his wealthiest friends).

Just this week, Trump has again invoked the idea of securing a third presidential term in defiance of the American Constitution. He has previously spoken of being a 'dictator' and signed off social media posts with references to himself as 'king'. (...)

175 lat temu na 110 sekund zgasło Słońce – ostatnie całkowite zaćmienie w dziejach Warszawy
28.07.2026 Marta Panas-Goworska

Choć od czasów warszawskiego zaćmienia minęło 175 lat, podobne zjawiska nadal przyciągają uwagę obserwatorów. 12 sierpnia 2026 roku z Polski będzie można zobaczyć częściowe zaćmienie Słońca. Na kolejne całkowite zaćmienie widoczne z naszego kraju trzeba będzie jednak poczekać znacznie dłużej – do 7 października 2135 roku, czyli ponad sto lat. (PAP)

How to Use the Italian Astronomical Heritage for the Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge in the Society
by Mauro Gargano, Valeria Zanini, and Antonella Gasperini, 4 years ago

In recent years, the National Institute for Astrophysics has realized some cultural initiatives to enhance the Italian astronomical heritage in a wider context. This paper illustrates projects and achievements to transform the history of astronomy into stories of women and men.

(...) The development of the cosmic sciences and the contribution to the progress of astronomy, made by Italian astronomers over the centuries, are amply testified by the historical instruments preserved in the astronomical Observatories.

The entire collection of INAF includes a total of over a thousand pieces: quadrants, sextants, telescopes, theodolites, clocks, stopwatches, globes, mathematical and surveying instruments, thermometers, barometers, hygrometers and meteorological instrumentation, ranging from the sixteenth 16th century to the first half of 1900s.

Any museum is formed by collecting observatory equipment, purchased or specially built by skilled mechanics, used in the past by astronomers for their scientific research.

The exception is the Astronomical and Copernican Museum in Rome that has a different story for its establishment. It was founded in 1873, during the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the birth of Copernicus, thanks to the precious donation made by Artur Wołyński (1844-1893). This collection includes Copernican memorabilia and other legacies of high scientific and cultural value.

In the other Observatories, such as Capodimonte, the original collection has been enlarged and enriched with the acquisition of other precious scientific and artistic objects. Among all the pieces preserved and exhibited in the INAF museums there are: the Arabic astrolabe (1096), manufactured in Spain and one of the oldest astrolabes in the world, the celestial globe (1589) made in German by Roll and Reinhold, the mural quadrant of Ramsden (1776) with which Toaldo measured double stars in the Cygnus constellation, the Ramsden Circle (1787ca.), used by Giuseppe Piazzi to discover Ceres in 1801, the equatorial telescope of Fraunhofer (1814), the largest telescope made in the first two decades of 19th century, the achromatic lens of Amici (1840), employed by Donati to discover the great comet of 1858, the spectroscope of Hofmann (1862), used by Secchi for the first spectroscopic stellar classification, the dome and the telescope of Merz (1863ca.) exploited by Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli (1835-1910) to realize the first cartography of Mars. Sylwester Damazy Kaliski (19.12.1925-16.09.1978) [52]

Niezwykły życiorys Sylwestra Kaliskiego.
Instytut Fizyki Plazmy i Laserowej Mikrosyntezy, którego był założycielem, do dzisiaj pełni ważną funkcję.

1961 uzyskał stopień naukowy profesora zwyczajnego.

1967-1974 komendant-rektor WAT.

05.10.1972 został awansowany na stopień generała dywizji.

1973 przeprowadził eksperyment kontrolowanej mikrosyntezy termojądrowej, osiągając temperaturę plazmy 10 milionów stopni (tzw. Eksperyment „Focus”).

1974–1978 minister nauki, szkolnictwa wyższego i techniki.

Wskazuje też na bliskość tajnej bazy radzieckiej w miejscowości Borne Sulinowo (generał jechał do Kołobrzegu, a wypadek miał miejsce w okolicach Koszalina).
