After travelling millions of km through deep space, @ESA_ExoMars will stretch out its four legs 🦿
Tests confirm our landing legs can deploy automatically in less than a second, ready for touchdown on Mars the moment the front shield is jettisoned.

ESA's ExoMars rover landing test — Rosalind Franklin prep 🧪🔴
Cleanroom footage of them testing the landing system deployment. This rover has been delayed since 2022 because of... geopolitics (used to ride a Russian lander), now ESA rebuilt the landing platform.
Aiming for 2028 launch, will drill 2 meters deep looking for ancient life — deepest any Mars rover has gone.
Techy but important — Europe's first real Mars rover. After 10 years of setbacks, they're finally testing hardware again.

Legs made for a Mars landing 21/01/2026
(...) The lightweight, deployable legs are equipped with shock absorbers to withstand impact and sensors to detect touchdown on the martian surface. Teams from the Sener company based in Spain designed and built the landing legs, together with the separation system and components of the rover's drill system. During testing, the four legs replicated the structure and dimensions of those that will fly to Mars. (...)

ExoMars ramps deployment testESA Extras 07.11.2025
ExoMars Rover Ramp Built by Poland’s Astronika Passes Key MilestoneBy Andrew Parsonson -November 5, 2025
Credit: ESA / Astronika(...) On 31 October, ESA revealed that a confidence test conducted at Astronika’s facility in Warsaw successfully demonstrated the deployment of both ramps, a process that will take approximately five minutes on the surface of the Red Planet. A confidence test is a full-scale verification exercise that confirms the hardware functions as intended under realistic operational conditions.
The egress system’s design will continue through further testing phases, including environmental and qualification campaigns, ahead of final integration with the landing platform. (...)

This release will be one of the mission’s most nerve-racking moments after landing on Mars in 2030.
This hinge will enable an automated, synchronised deployment of the ramps. The two linked rollers at the centre of the image will ensure a smooth release. The orange sensor cables threaded below will help confirm the deployment, while the two black carbon fibre tubes on the sides will act as guide rails to prevent the rover for falling off the ramps. The aluminium ramps have a milled pattern to improve grip with the rover’s six wheels.
Rocket vibrations, martian winds and solar heat fluxes have been taken into account for the release mechanism. The whole operation will take a maximum of five minutes on Mars.

Astronika współpracuje z wieloma polskimi instytucjami i firmami, m.in. z Centrum Badań Kosmicznych Polskiej Akademii Nauk, Siecią Badawczą Łukasiewicz – Instytutem Lotnictwa, Politechniką Warszawską oraz firmą Spaceive. Współpraca ta świadczy o rosnącym potencjale polskiego sektora kosmicznego i jego zdolności do realizacji zaawansowanych projektów technologicznych.

Is there life on Mars? 👽
ExoMars (@esa) will send Rosalind Franklin, Europe's first exploration rover 🇪🇺, to dig up to 2m deep in search of signs of life.
To get there safely, it needs to survive atmospheric entry, the most perilous phase of the journey. That's where ArianeGroup comes in, protecting the rover with its thermal protection systems. 🔥
Launch 2028, landing 2030.
