A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 XK1 flew past Earth at a very close distance of just 0.05 LD / 0.00014 AU (20 943 km / 13 013 miles) from the center of our planet at 16:15 UTC on December 7, 2020. For reference, Earth's diameter is 12 742 km (7 917 miles).

This is the 100th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 5th so far this month.

This is also the 18th closest flyby on record and the 5th closest in 2020: (...)

Interestingly, 2020 holds the first and second place for the closest asteroid flyby on record.

2020 XK1 was first discovered at Mt. Lemmon Survey, Arizona on December 7.

It belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 2 and 4.4 m (6.5 - 14.4 feet).

A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 XG2 flew past Earth at a distance of 0.13 LD / 0.00033 AU (49 367 km / 30 675 miles) from the center of our planet at 19:15 UTC on December 7, 2020. The event took place exactly 3 hours after 2020 XK1 flew past us at 0.05 LD - the 18th closest flyby on record and the 5th closest in 2020.

2020 XG2 is the 101st known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 6th so far this month.

It was first observed at ATLAS-MLO, Mauna Loa, Hawaii on December 8, one day after its close approach to our planet.

The object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 7 and 16 m (23 - 52 feet).

It flew past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 12.6 km/s.

A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 XX3 will fly by Earth at a distance of 0.15 LD / 0.00038 AU (56 847 km / 35 323 miles) from the center of our planet on December 18, 2020.

2020 XX3 was first observed at Pan-STARRS 1, Haleakala on December 10, eight days before its close approach.

The asteroid belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 5.1 and 11 m (16 - 36 feet).

The object will fly past us at 06:47 UTC ± 00:56 at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 5.92 km/s.

This is the 102nd asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 7th so far this month.

A newly-discovered asteroid designated 2020 XF4 will flyby Earth at a distance of 0.89 LD / 0.00229 AU (342 579 km / 212 868 miles) from the center of our planet on December 16, 2020.

This is the 103rd known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and 8th so far this month.

2020 XF4 was first observed at Palomar Mountain (Zwicky Transient Facility), California on December 10, six days before its close approach.

The object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 8.8 and 20 m (29 - 65 feet).

It will fly past us at 11:17 UTC at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 6.8 km/s.

This is the 106th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 11th so far this month.

2020 YS2 was first observed at ATLAS-MLO, Mauna Loa, Hawaii on December 21, one day after it made its close approach.

It belongs to the Aten group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 1.7 and 3.8 m (5.5 - 12.5 feet).

The object flew past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 4.01 km/s.
