Cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov exited the Poisk module at 7:17am ET beginning a spacewalk to service the Prichal module
Spacewalkers Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov work on the Nauka and Prichal modules during an orbital sunset.
RS/EVA-51: Good morning; cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov, floating in the Russian Poisk module, are preparing to venture outside the International Space Station for a planned 6.5-hour spacewalk to continue outfitting the new multi-port Prichal docking module
RS/EVA-51: Tasks include installation of handrails, comms and data cable routing and connections, installation of docking targets, a TV camera relocation, jettisoning of no-longer-needed antennas, covers and containers along with other similar tasksRS/EVA-51: For identification, Shkaplerov, call sign EV-1, is using helmetcam 22 and is wearing an Orlan spacesuit with red stripes; Dubrov, EV-2, is wearing a suit with blue stripes and is using helmetcam 16 RS/EVA-51: Shkaplerov and Dubrov opened the outer hatch of the Poisk module at ~7:22am EST (1222 UTC), kicking off today's spacewalk, the 1st so far this year, the 246th in station history, the 3rd for Shkaplerov and the 4th for DubrovRS/EVA-51: This is the 1st of 16 ISS spacewalks planned for 2022, 10 by Russian cosmonauts and 6 by NASA and partner agency astronauts; the remaining Russian EVAs will be devoted to Nauka outfitting (installation of an ESA robot arm, airlock outfitting, etc.)RS/EVA-51: The official start time for today's spacewalk was 7:17am EST (1217 UTC)RS/EVA-51 (PET: 34m00s, 7:51am EST): The cosmonauts are unlimbering the Strela boom to provide a path "down" to the Nauka lab module and the newly arrived Prichal docking compartment where they'll spend most of their time todayRS/EVA-51 (PET: 1h40m, 8:57am EST): Shkaplerov and Dubrov and both at the Prichal module docked to the end of the Nauka multi-purpose lab, preparing to install handrail siffeners; the work appears to be going smoothlyNAC/CCP notes: Commercial Crew Program manager Steve Stich is giving the NASA Advisory Council an update, reviewing recent history and looking ahead to major events planned for 2022RS/EVA-51 (PET: 2h42m, 9:59am EST): Shkaplerov and Dubrov are continuing work to connect comms cables between the multi-port Prichal module and the Nauka multi-purpose lab; handrails were installed earlier and insulation blankets adjustedRS/EVA-51 (PET: 4h05m, 11:22am EST): Russian flight controllers are working a communications glitch that's preventing the spacewalkers from hearing the ground; Kayla Barron is relaying ground instructions in the interimRS/EVA-51: And just as I hit the tweet button, the comms issue was resolved; the crew is now testing connectivity in a rendezvous antenna system that will be used for future dockings at the Prichal moduleRS/EVA-51 (PET: 6h15m, 1:32am EST): Shkaplerov and Dubrov are still plugging away (literally) at the Prichal module, which is now configured to serve as a docking compartment; flight controllers are discussing remaining tasks; EVA expected to last another hour or soRS/EVA-51 (PET: 6h55m, 12:12pm EST): Shkaplerov and Dubrov are making their way back to the Poisk module to wrap up today's spacewalk; the Prichal module is now ready for arrival of the Soyuz MS-21/67S crew ferry ship in MarchRS/EVA-51: The cosmonauts closed the outer hatch of the Poisk module at 2:28pm EST (1928 UTC), bringing a 7h 11m spacewalk to an endRS/EVA-51: Total ISS EVA time through 246 spacewalks now stands at 1,555h 37m, or 64.8 days; Shkaplerov's total through 3 EVAs stands at 21h 39m while Dubrov's total through 4 EVAs stands at 29h 49m
"Holy molly! They weren't happy with just the velcro, they put the velcro, they wire-tied it, and they tied the wire-ties!"
