This latest data download from Costa Rica Space Radar collected at 21:58 UTC shows a subset of the new debris objects from #COSMOS1408 breakup; well north of 100 new objects shown here with altitudes ranging from 440-520km.

Further processing of recent LeoLabs data on #Cosmos1408 breakup shows 216 unique objects identified so far. This number will grow significantly as we gather more data and the objects begin to further separate from one another in their new orbits.

Russia just blew up a satellite—here’s why that spells trouble for spaceflight
BYNADIA DRAKE PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 16, 2021

An anti-satellite weapon test left a cloud of debris in orbit that is threatening the International Space Station and other vital satellites.

Cytuj
“We are counting many, many objects—we’re not even sure how many there are yet, but it’s a lot,” says Ed Lu, one of the company’s founders and a retired NASA astronaut who’s logged more than 206 days in space.

What’s going to happen to all that space junk?

When a satellite is blown to pieces by a missile, the debris cloud generally keeps moving along the satellite’s original orbit. Some of the pieces will be boosted into higher orbits, others will be flung to lower orbits, and some will be thrown into completely different trajectories. Over time, the cloud will expand.

“This was a pretty energetic breakup, so that means the new objects can be on quite different orbits,” Lu says.

In addition to these images, Slingshot Aerospace’s partner  @numerica_corp has also provided a video from shortly after impact. The circled areas show the newly created debris in LEO from the Russian anti-satellite test (#ASAT) against #Cosmos1408.

wot...eta Rassija i nic więcej.

Here's another visualisation of our simulated #Cosmos1408 #SpaceDebris cloud. Apologies for the sudden zoom at about 32 seconds. I liked the trails!

Chiny (?) - bzdura to małżeństwo z rozsądku z określonym terminem przydatności do spożycia - nadejdzie jeszcze czas renegocjacji traktatu nerczyńskiego.
