20 lat od katastrofy promu ColumbiaPierwszego lutego 2023 roku minęło 20 lat od ostatniej katastrofy podczas kosmicznej misji załogowej.

Ta katastrofa rozpoczęła zmiany w amerykańskim programie załogowym: od anulowanego programu Constellation, poprzez Flexible Path (z segmentem załogowym) aż po obecnie realizowany program Artemis.

William McCool was an aviator in the @USNavy, graduating from the US Naval Test Pilot School and serving as a TA-4J and EA-6B test pilot. NASA selected him as an astronaut in 1996 and he qualified for flight assignment as a pilot. STS-107 was his first spaceflight.
David Brown served as a flight surgeon in the @USNavy and was named Navy Operational Flight Surgeon of the Year in 1986. He was flight surgeon for the Naval Test Pilot School where he also flew T-38 Talons. Selected as an astronaut in 1996, STS-107 was his first spaceflight.
Kalpana Chawla was an engineer and pilot with a PhD in aerospace engineering. Born in India, Chawla became a U.S. citizen in 1991 and was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1994. She flew on STS-87 and STS-107, becoming the first Indian-American woman in space.
Michael Anderson commissioned as a second lieutenant in the @USAirForce. After completing Undergraduate Pilot Training, he flew the Strategic Air Command’s EC-135 Looking Glass and served in air refueling squadrons. Selected by NASA in 1994, he flew on STS-89 and STS-107.
Before becoming an astronaut, Laurel Clark served in the @USNavy as a Naval Submarine Medical Officer, Diving Medical Officer, and Flight Surgeon. She was selected by NASA in 1996. STS-107 was her first spaceflight.
Ilan Ramon was a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. In 1997, Ramon was selected by NASA as a payload specialist, designated to train for a mission with a multispectral camera for recording desert aerosol. STS-107 was his first spaceflight.
