The crew returns to Earth after a nearly six-month stay aboard the International Space Station. This screen capture from the webcast of NASA's SpaceX Crew-5 return shows the Dragon Endurance spacecraft in the Gulf of Mexico during recovery efforts with a crew of four astronauts on Saturday, March 11.As the 17,000-pound capsule bobbed in an area cordoned off by the Coast Guard, a SpaceX recovery team approached to confirm that no toxic propellants were present. The capsule was then rigged up and hoisted onto the deck of SpaceX's custom-built recovery vessel named "Shannon."
The crew would complete medical checkouts aboard the vessel before boarding a helicopter destined for the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. From there, they travel home. For astronauts Mann, Cassada, and Wakata, the trip's final leg returns them to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, while Kikina will return home to Russia.

Crew-6: Pilot Josh Cassada replied, "We just started our second-to-last orbit. A little bit heart breaking, but exciting, too;" said Blascoe: "We're all very excited to get you guys back today. Weather at Tampa is continuing to look good;" crew is suiting up
2:12 AM
Crew-5: We're standing by for the Crew-5 spacecraft's deorbit rocket firing; the 11-minute 21-second burn is designed to slow the spacecraft by 80.2 meters per second, just enough to drop the far side of the orbit into the lower atmosphere
2:13 AM
Crew-5: The deorbit burn began on time at 8:11pm EST (0111 UTC)
2:22 AM
Crew-5: Deorbit burn complete; atmospheric entry in 28 minutes; splashdown in 40 minutes
2:51 AM
Crew-5: The Crew Dragon has fallen back into the discernible atmosphere; entry heating will disrupt communications for several minutes as electrically charged plasma builds up around the vehicle; main chute deploy in ~8 minutes; splashdown in ~11 minutes
2:56 AM
Crew-5: The Crew Dragon is back in radio contact after passing through the region of peak heating; live video from the recovery ship Shannon shows the capsule surrounded by a fireball of atmospheric friction; spectacular view
3:00 AM
Crew-5: The Crew Dragon's two drogue chutes deployed on time, followed by all four main chutes; splashdown expected within the next 2 minutes or so
3:03 AM
Crew-5: Splashdown! At 9:02pm EST (0202 UTC Sunday); Crew-5 is back on Earth after a 157-day 10-hour mission spanning 2,512 orbits and 66.6 million miles since launch last October 5
3:07 AM
Crew-5: SpaceX to crew: "Dragon Endurance, on behalf of SpaceX, welcome home; Nicole Mann: "Thank you, SpaceX, that was one heck of a ride. We're happy to be home, looking forward to next time"
