(...) SpaceX previously had regulatory approval from the FCC to operate another 2,825 satellites in higher orbits between 690 miles (1,110 kilometers) and 823 miles (1,325 kilometers) in altitude, in orbital planes inclined 53.8, 70, 74 and 81 degrees to the equator.
The modified plan submitted to the FCC by SpaceX foresees Ku-band and Ka-band satellites in the next phase of the Starlink network all operated at altitudes between 335 miles (540 kilometers) and 354 miles (570 kilometers) at inclinations of 53.2, 70 and 97.6 degrees.
The application covers 4,408 Starlink satellites, one fewer than SpaceX envisioned under the previous architecture. (...)

With a more favorable weather forecast for launch and landing, SpaceX is targeting Wednesday, April 22 at 3:37 p.m. EDT for this week’s Falcon 9 Starlink mission. Photo: SpaceXFor the fifth occasion in less than six months, SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 booster core for the fourth time on Wednesday, 22 April, as the organization resumes an aggressive campaign of missions in the face of the worldwide COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Liftoff of the veteran booster—tailnumbered “B1051”—is targeted to occur from historic Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida at 3:37 p.m. EDT and will loft another 60 Starlink internet communications satellites into low-Earth orbit. This also represents SpaceX’s seventh flight of 2020 and the eighth time in a row that it has performed missions on previously flown boosters. (...)

(...) With six missions already under its belt so far in 2020, SpaceX had already delivered four previous batches of Starlinks into orbit this year alone—twice in January and once apiece in February and March—as well as the long-awaited in-flight abort test of the Crew Dragon and the final Dragon cargo mission (CRS-20) to the International Space Station (ISS) under the terms of the first-round Commercial Resupply Services (CRS1) contract with NASA. Compared with previous years, the first quarter of 2020 has been an unusual one, with fewer commercial clients waiting in the wings as SpaceX has ramped up its launch rate and steadily cleared its existing books.
The worldwide march of the COVID-19 coronavirus has also played its part, forcing Argentina’s SAOCOM-1B Earth-imaging mission to slip indefinitely from its original launch date at the end of March. Additionally, the third member of the Block III Global Positioning System (GPS) network, previously slated for a late April flight, has slipped until no sooner than 30 June.
The launch of Starlink-6 will come only weeks before the scheduled 27 May launch of Crew Dragon Demo-2 astronauts Doug Hurley (right) and Bob Behnken. They will become the first U.S. astronauts to launch aboard a U.S. spacecraft, atop a U.S. rocket, and from U.S. soil, since the end of the Space Shuttle Program in July 2011.
