Euclid, the #DarkUniverse detective🕵️, will map the Universe by observing billions of galaxies out to ten billion light-years over one third of the sky to study dark matter and dark energy.

After a flawless launch, Euclid set path to orbit L2 where it joined @ESA_Webb and @ESAGaia  to peer into the Universe side by side.

Despite some initial obstacles, Euclid has already shown its ability to capture the cosmos in two stunning image releases.

But what obstacles did Euclid have to overcome?
Obstacle one: the Sun☀️
After launch, Euclid's first data showed that a minuscule amount of sunlight had crept into its extremely sensitive VIS instrument.
However, by avoiding certain angles, the #DarkUniverse detective🕵️could continue its observations, thanks to a team effort to redesign the survey.

Obstacle two: lost guide stars💾
Cosmic rays confused Euclid's tracking software, which tells where the spacecraft is pointed and keeps it stabilised

Obstacle three: ice❄️
During its time in space, a very thin layer of water ice formed on some of Euclid's optics.@esaoperations
heated some mirrors and removed the ice, a procedure which has become part of Euclid’s normal operations.

Euclid started its science survey on 14 February and has already covered 883 square degrees of our extragalactic sky.
