1978 ukończył US Air Force Academy w Colorado Springs, uzyskując tytuł licencjata w dziedzinie elektrotechniki.

1978 rozpoczął służbę w Siłach Powietrznych Stanów Zjednoczonych.

07.1979 ukończył szkolenie lotnicze w Szkole Pilotów Sił Powietrznych w Laughlin AFB.

12.1979 zakończył szkolenie na pilota samolotu A-10 w bazie lotniczej Davis-Monthan w Arizonie.

01.1980-03.1982 był pilotem samolotu A-10 w bazie lotniczej Myrtle Beach w Karolinie Południowej.

03.1982-01.1983 pełnił funkcję pilota instruktora A-10 w bazie Davis-Monthan.

01.1983 rozpoczął szkolenie w USAF Fighter Weapons School w bazie Nellis, po czym powrócił do bazy Davis-Monthan, gdzie został instruktorem uzbrojenia i taktyki obsługi samolotów A-10.

06.1986 roku ukończył Szkołę Pilotów Doświadczalnych Sił Powietrznych USA w bazie Edwards w Kalifornii.

1986-1987 był pilotem testowym w bazie sił powietrznych Eglin na Florydzie.

08.1988 po ukończeniu szkolenia uzyskał kwalifikacje pilota wahadłowca i został przydzielony do Flight Crew Operations Directorate NASA.

Był szefem zespołu wsparcia startu astronautów, odpowiadał za wejście załogi na pokład/zapięcie pasów przed startem i wyjście załogi po lądowaniu.

Monitorował modernizację OV-102 i OV-103.

Zajmował stanowisko Astronaut Office Lead of Shuttle Operations.

Był zastępcą dyrektora w Flight Crew Operations Directorate NASA.

Brown przeszedł na emeryturę z NASA, aby przyjąć stanowisko w sektorze prywatnym.

Posiada łączny nalot ponad 6000 godzin na różnych typach samolotów.

Został pułkownikiem Sił Powietrznych USA.

ELIZABETHTOWN — Flaky and fading, the iconic mural of Astronaut Curtis Brown Jr. displayed on the west side of Kinlaw Furniture in downtown Elizabethtown is more than ready and waiting for an extreme makeover. But where the money will come from is keeping fresh paint from finding its way to the building.

The mural, which was painted by Hunt Cole of Image Design in 1992 just two days before Brown lifted off for the stars, was an effort to pay tribute to the hometown hero.

According to the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel, Cole said, “We have a downtown revitalization going on and we wanted to do a mural of historic nature. One morning a bunch of guys were eating breakfast at Champs and saw a picture of Curt in the paper. He put the paper down and said ‘That would be a good mural for that wall.’ So we did it.”

The owner of Kinlaw’s Furniture donated the first $1,000 and other donations totaled $3,000 for the original mural. (...)

Dream of flying lands Curt Brown in U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame

Astronaut Curt Brown, a commercial pilot now living in Hudson, said a shuttle mission with John Glenn was a highlight of a career that landed him in the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.


Former Discovery shuttle pilot Curt Brown was testing a Sun Country simulator last week in the Twin Cities just days after he was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. (The Minnesota Star Tribune)

(...) Brown said he and other astronauts had some fun at Glenn's expense by printing fake boarding passes before the launch. When it came time to board Discovery, Brown said, everyone reached into sleeve pockets of their space suits for their passes.

"John says, 'I don't remember getting a boarding pass. Somebody really screwed up,' " Brown said as the crowd roared with laughter.

NASA ended the space shuttle program in July 2011, leaving the future of space to private companies and foreign countries. That was a mistake, Brown said, because so much work remains to discover far reaches of space, including Mars.

"It's kind of sad," he said. "We were leaders in space, we walked on the moon. We have no space program right now when it comes to a vehicle to take people into orbit. I think it was the wrong thing to do."

Even though Brown has lived in Hudson with his wife, Mary, since 2002, and spent 20 years in Houston in the space program before that, his legacy won't fade anytime soon in Elizabethtown, where residents renamed their tiny airport after him. (...)
