24 April 1971. 23.40.00 UTC/GMT. Soyuz 10, the world's first manned mission to the first space station, the Soviet Salyut 1, returned to Earth 75 miles north-west of Karaganda. The docking was unsuccessful and the crew returned without entering the station.

After a flight of only 47+ hours, instead of an expected 22-30 days, the DM of Soyuz 10 (#31) lands 120 KM NE Karaganda OTD in 1971. The aborted transfer to Salyut resulted in a unfavourable landing at night. Postflight the crew reported the DM had rolled over its apex on landing
