https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTpWYWIfP7Y

5 things you should know about Virgin Galactic’s first fully crewed spaceflight
Emilee Speck Published: July 9, 2021 1:54 pm Updated: July 9, 2021 4:48 pm
(...) CJ Sturckow and Kelly Latimer are piloting the mothership and will land back on the runway while SpaceShipTwo continues on. (...)
SpaceShipTwo pilots Dave Mackay and Michael Masucci will use the spaceplane’s hybrid rocket motor to push up through the sound barrier after about six seconds. The spaceship will then reach the edge of space at about 300,000 feet above Earth, about 55 miles up. (...)
At this point the passengers will be able to unbuckle from their seats and experience weightlessness, looking through 17 windows down on Earth. (...)
The whole experience lasts under an hour from take-off to landing with a few minutes for weightlessness. (...)
The FAA issued its first Commercial Astronaut Wings to pilots Mike Melvill and Brian Binnie on April 1, 2004 for their flight in Scaled Composites’ SpaceShipOne. (...)
The winged rocket ship will soar from New Mexico _ the first carrying a full crew of company employees. It will be only the fourth trip to space for Virgin Galactic.
SpaceShipTwo will be piloted by Dave Mackay and Michael Masucci. Four mission specialists, including Branson, will be on board VSS Unity. The other mission specialists include Beth Moses, Colin Bennett, Sirisha Bandla, all of whom work at Virgin Galactic. It will be the first spaceflight for Branson, who turns 71 this month, as well as Bennett and Bandla. (...)
Moses, Virgin Galactic Chief Astronaut Instructor, will serve as the cabin lead overseeing the test flight objectives. Bandla will handle a plant experiment from the University of Florida and Bennett will evaluate cabin equipment and procedures during the flight.
Meanwhile, Branson will be acting in the role as a Virgin Galactic “private astronaut,” experiencing the flight like their paying customers will.
“The Company will use his observations from his flight training and spaceflight experience to enhance the journey for all future astronaut customers,” the company said in a news release. (...)
The Late Show host and comedian Stephen Colbert will host the live stream after an invite from Branson. (...)
The live stream will include views of the liftoff and from inside the cabin, which contains 16 HD cameras. (...)

Zakładając start o 16:30 CEST, to lot rakietoplanu by nastąpił około 18:30 CEST. Ze dwie godziny trwa wznoszenie WK2. Zgadza się?
-
Zaczyna się stream.
-
White Knight i SS 2 już w powietrzu.
-
Lubię Bransona, ale ciężko przesłuchać to jak wychwala go prowadzący...
-

Ta transmisja to jakaś patologia.
-
Zaraz zrzut i zapłon! :)
-
No i... był zapłon. Minuta pod silnikiem. Osiągnięcie pułapu lotu (282 tysięace stóp, 85,9 km?), a teraz pojazd opada do lotniska.
-
Niestety kamery pokładowe dziś mocno strajkują...
-
Ale wtopa! Do kitu! Transmisja tragiczna. :o

Niestety kamery pokładowe dziś mocno strajkują...
Albo raczej przesył danych...

Wheels stop ;)

Szybciutko to poszło: Od startu do lądowania wszystko w godzinę.
Ciekawe, ile takich lotów dzienne docelowo by mógł wykonywać WK2 i poszczególne egzemplarze SS2 / SS3.

Udany lot, gratulacje dla Branson'a, załogi i reszty pasażerów :)

Virgin Galactic
---------------
Virgin Galactic carried out another test flight of Spaceship Two into
space on Jul 11, with six Virgin Galactic employees on board: Chief
Pilot David Mackay, Pilot Mike Masucci, and 'Astronaut 001' to
'Astronaut 004' Richard Branson, Beth Moses, Colin Bennett and Sirisha
Bandla.
The Unity 22 mission took off from Spaceport America at 1443 UTC. The
carrier plane VMS Eve, flying at 14.1 km altitude, dropped the VSS Unity
spaceplane at 1525 UTC over 107.0W 33.2N. Two seconds later Unity fired
its hybrid rocket engine for a 60 second burn with a cutoff velocity of
0.98 km/s. Unity reached space at D+2:02 (2 min 2s after drop); at
D+2:39 it reached an apogee of 86.2 km above sea level. It dropped below
80 km at D+3:14 and glided to landing back at Spaceport America at
D+14:19 (touchdown), with wheels stop at D+15:14. The exact drop time to
the second is not yet available.

Retrorocket Emblems has created a terrific pair of parody Mach emblems (http://www.retrorocketemblems.com/content/pre-order-blue-origin-and-virgin-galactic-mach-2-and-3-patches) for Blue Origin's New Shepard and Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo.
These are a spoof of the Space Shuttle "Mach 25" patches. With Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic now space-faring companies, these patches mark their milestones of achieving Mach 2 and 3 on their suborbital flights.
Patches are the same size and color as the originals.

(...) Under the U.S. definition for the lowermost limit of what constitutes “outer space”, any vehicle exceeding an altitude of 50 miles (80 km)—roughly the transitional zone between the mesosphere and thermosphere—can earn its crew members astronauts’ wings. And this is precisely what happened following 13 flights by North American’s X-15 rocket-powered hypersonic aircraft between July 1962 and August 1968, whose eight pilots earned such wings, bestowed upon them by the U.S. Air Force. Problemy podczas lotu załogowego SpaceShipTwo?
BY KRZYSZTOF KANAWKA ON 4 WRZEŚNIA 2021
