05.07.1982 urodziła się w Imphy w Burgundii we Francji.
2001-2003 Sophie studiowała inżynierię i ukończyła ISAE-SUPAERO w Tuluzie we Francji, gdzie specjalizowała się w dynamice lotu statków kosmicznych i samolotów.
2004 ukończyła studia magisterskie z inżynierii czynników ludzkich na MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology w Bostonie w USA.
Była członkiem „Laboratorium Człowiek-Pojazd”, a jej praca magisterska dotyczyła badania adaptacji układu przedsionkowego do sztucznej grawitacji w celu zaprojektowania wirówki szkoleniowej dla astronautów.
Po ukończeniu studiów magisterskich w 2004 Sophie przez rok pracowała jako inżynier naukowiec ds. projektowania kokpitów śmigłowców w firmie Airbus Helicopter w Marignane we Francji.
2005 Sophie wstąpiła do Francuskich Sił Powietrznych, aby odbyć podstawowe szkolenie wojskowe i wstępne szkolenie lotnicze, aby zostać pilotem śmigłowca.
2008–2012 była pilotem poszukiwawczo-ratowniczym w bazie lotniczej Cazaux i brała udział w kilku lotach ratowniczych na pustyni i w trudnych warunkach.
Następnie dołączyła do High Authority Transport Squadron w Villacoublay i pełniła funkcję dowódcy lotu formacyjnego oraz kapitana misji w latach 2012–2017.
2018 ukończyła z wyróżnieniem kurs pilota doświadczalnego śmigłowców w Empire Test Pilots' School w Boscombe Down w Wielkiej Brytanii.
Otrzymała trofeum Mac Kenna i odznaczenie Patuxtent Shield.
2019-2022 Sophie pracowała jako pilot testowy śmigłowców w Ośrodku Testów Lotniczych Cazaux w DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement – francuskiej Agencji Zamówień Obronnych).
Ma nalot 3000 godzin i wylatała 22 na różnych typach śmigłowców.
Posiada również wojskową licencję spadochronową, licencję pilota lekkich samolotów oraz licencję pilota szybowcowego.
2020 otrzymała tytuł Młodego Lidera przyznany przez Francusko-Amerykańską Fundację.
2021 Sophie została odznaczona medalem Francuskiego Zgromadzenia Narodowego za swoje działania jako inspirująca ambasadorka równości płci w nauce.
2022 Sophie została odznaczona francuskim Narodowym Orderem Zasługi (Chevalier).
23.11.2022 pilotka helikoptera sil powietrznych Francji w randze podpułkownika (lieutenant colonel) została wybrana do nowej grupy astronautów ESA.
04.2023 rozpoczęła roczny program szkolenia podstawowego.
22.04.2024 uzyskała certyfikat astronauty (https://www.forum.kosmonauta.net/index.php?topic=140.msg190783#msg190783) w Europejskim Centrum Astronautów ESA.
Oprócz języka ojczystego, Sophie biegle posługuje się językiem angielskim.
Mówi również po niemiecku i rosyjsku, a także ma pewne pojęcie o języku hiszpańskim.
Sophie ma 15-letnie doświadczenie w prowadzeniu wykładów popularyzujących naukę oraz jako wolontariuszka podczas pogadanek motywacyjnych i zajęć edukacyjnych dla dzieci.
Uprawia wiele sportów ekstremalnych na świeżym powietrzu, zwłaszcza sporty górskie (narciarstwo, kolarstwo górskie).
Sophie jest certyfikowaną nauczycielką jogi, posiada licencję nurka i jest wyszkoloną skoczkinią spadochronową.

Sophie Adenot zapisała się w historii francuskiego lotnictwa.
Pilot helikoptera, również pilot testowy, została jedenastym francuskim astronautą i drugą kobietą z naszego kraju, która dołączyła do tego bardzo ekskluzywnego klubu .
W wieku zaledwie 40 lat ma już za sobą długą karierę wojskową, w Siłach Powietrznych i Kosmicznych, ale także w DGA Flight Tests .
Jej pierwsza misja powinna zabrać ją na Międzynarodową Stację Kosmiczną.

Sophie Adenot, nouvelle astronaute française sélectionnée par l'Agence spatiale européenne (ESA) après Thomas Pesquet, a démarré son entraînement à Cologne en Allemagne. Interview avec cette pilote d'hélicoptère, ancienne étudiante du MIT, qui se réjouit déjà de mener des expériences à bord de la Station spatiale internationale.
La nouvelle astronaute française, Sophie Adenot, a commencé son entraînement à l’European Astronaut Center (EAC) de Cologne (Allemagne) avec les quatre autres membres de sa promotion. Comme Thomas Pesquet par le passé, elle se prépare à partir dans l'espace, d'abord sur la Station spatiale internationale (ISS) et peut-être pour des missions lunaires à l'horizon 2030. Un mois après le début du programme, la pilote d'hélicoptère de 40 ans, lieutenant-colonel de l'armée de l'Air, nous livre ses premières impressions.
Sciences et Avenir : Comment passe-t-on de l’habitacle d’un hélicoptère à l’ISS ?
Sophie Adenot : On a commencé les cours de médecine spatiale, de compréhension de l’environnement spatial et des contraintes fascinantes que l’espace impose sur le corps humain. C’est un tout nouveau domaine d’apprentissage. Je pense qu’il y a aussi des choses qui ne peuvent qu’être vécues à bord pour comprendre comment ça se passe.
"Je suis comme une enfant dans un magasin de jouets"
Après un mois de formation, l’entraînement correspond-il à l’image que vous vous en étiez faite ?
Je suis vraiment comme une enfant dans un magasin de jouets. J’ai envie de tout voir et de tout découvrir. C’est une formation de très haut niveau qui est encore mieux que la plus belle de mes attentes, avec une équipe de talents incroyables dans ma promotion.
Avez-vous un domaine scientifique de prédilection ?
J’aime la diversité, je suis heureuse de la variété des domaines dans ce métier. Au MIT, j’ai beaucoup apprécié ce que j’ai étudié : les interactions homme-machine. Il s’agit de la conception d’un véhicule, que ce soit un véhicule spatial, un hélicoptère ou encore un avion, dans lequel le binôme être humain et machine est optimisé afin de fonctionner le mieux possible. En l’occurrence, j’ai fait ma thèse de Master of science sur le thème de la gravité artificielle (qui sert à combattre les effets de l'absence de pesanteur sur le corps humain dans l'espace, ndlr) et de la recherche sur le [...]

Sophie Adenot dans le grand bain. La Française commence ce lundi un cycle d'entraînement aux côtés des cinq autres membres de la nouvelle promotion d'astronautes de l'Agence spatiale européenne (ESA) annoncée en novembre 2022. Pendant les douze prochains mois que la petite classe passera au Centre européen des astronautes de Cologne, en Allemagne, les élèves apprendront tout ce dont ils ont besoin pour s'envoler dans l'espace au cours des prochaines années.
Si les différentes phases de son entraînement se déroulent rapidement et qu'elle est retenue pour partir en mission dès la fin de sa formation, Sophie Adenot pourrait prétendre à l'espace à l'horizon 2026. "C'est le grand minimum" expliquait l'ingénieur sur BFMTV en novembre, peu après l'annonce de sélection.

Sélectionnée parmi 22.500 candidats européens, Sophie Adenot filera bientôt vers la station spatiale internationale. Technique, dextérité, résistance physique, formation médicale… Celle qui sera la deuxième Française à se rendre dans l'espace après Claudie Haigneré, se prépare au voyage au sein du Centre d'entraînement des astronautes à Cologne, en Allemagne. Et ses journées sont bien remplies. "Je me rends compte aujourd'hui de la densité de l'entraînement et de la densité des tâches à maîtriser. C'est très pluridisciplinaire. Je pense que trois années minimum d'entraînement, ce n'est pas de trop", confie-t-elle à la caméra de TF1.
Un entraînement intense
À bord d'une réplique de son futur lieu de travail, la nouvelle recrue a pour première mission de mémoriser tous les termes techniques et les acronymes. "Un des premiers boulots d'après tous les anciens astronautes", s'amuse-t-elle dans le reportage de TF1 en tête de cet article. La jeune femme passe également du temps dans l'eau, où l'on est comme en apesanteur. Elle apprend à se mouvoir au fond du bassin du centre d'entraînement, et ainsi mimer les futures sorties en scaphandre dans l'espace.
Son instructeur, Hervé, lui indique par ailleurs comment utiliser les outils au travers de gants de combinaison spatiale. Sophie s'exerce aussi à mener des expériences dans un caisson étanche. Un outil pratique pour éviter la dispersion de substances dans l'air de la station, mais difficile à manier. "J'imaginais bien que c'était important d'avoir tout cet entraînement, maintenant de le faire, ça ajoute une sacrée étape", explique-t-elle.

Selon le ministère des Armées, Sophie Adenot, va commencer désormais, «la deuxième partie de sa préparation». Une formation «qui sera dispensée au Johnson Space Center », un centre de la NASA à Houston au Texas. D’après France info, l’astronaute pourrait être envoyée dans l’espace à la mi-2026 pour une première mission de six mois au sein de la station spatiale internationale.

Indeed, spaceflight requires:
✔️ to memorize knowledge on facts / systems,
✔️ to acquire complex skills.
Each step of the way, the instructors make sure we are ready for more complex skills training & classes.
🚁 It was the same as a pilot -> many evaluations throughout the carrier to ensure we have proficiency & competencies.
Our graduation ceremony is coming up… (on April 22nd -more info in a future publication).

🤩 En plein air pendant 5 jours, avec beaucoup de neige. Woohoo ! Ceux qui me connaissent savent à quel point j'aime être en extérieur et en montagne. J'étais donc TRÈS contente !
🌍 Pourquoi apprendre à survivre dans différents environnements ? Au cas où le véhicule spatial atterrirait dans une zone reculée au retour de la mission…
🏔️ Cette formation nous a permis d’apprendre et de pratiquer les compétences suivantes : faire un feu dans la nature même lorsque c’est humide, gérer les blessures dues au froid, gérer l'hypothermie, créer une civière à partir de matériel improvisé, construire un igloo, dormir dans la neige avec des températures < à 0°C, s’orienter et avancer sans appareils électroniques, communiquer efficacement en cas d’urgence, se signaler et se préparer à une récupération en hélicoptère, etc.
🚁 Cet hélicoptère était un AS350B3 Ecureuil d'Airbus Helicopters. Je connais assez bien cet hélicoptère pour avoir volé dessus en tant que pilote d'essai. Ce vol était un vol d'entraînement pour les équipes locales de secours en montagne. Pour une fois, je suis restée au sol, ce qui donne un autre point de vue 😉.
💡Cette semaine a également été une très bonne occasion de mettre en pratique nos compétences en tant que “leader” et “membre d’équipage”. Nos instructeurs nous ont donné différents scénarios chaque jour, et nous avons pu expérimenter chacun des rôles.
🙏Nous avons été accompagnés lors de cette aventure par les instructeurs Gerard, Stani et Ross, et épaulés par 👩🚀

Super fier de @Soph_astro et @Raph_Astro pour leur première désignation sur une mission ! 🧑🏻🚀👨🏻🚀Sophie devrait voler au printemps 2026, et Raphaël en automne. C’est une reconnaissance de leurs compétences bien sûr (que j’avais appréciées moi-même pendant l’entraînement 🛫🛬), mais aussi une excellente nouvelle pour l’Europe🇪🇺, qui continue sa présence dans l’espace ✨, pour que la recherche et l’exploration bénéficient à ses citoyens 🌍. Ça va parler pas mal français dans la station spatiale en 2026 😎 Bon courage pour l’entraînement 💪 et on suivra ça de près !

L'astronaute française Sophie Adenot sera la première de la promotion 2022 des astronautes européens à s'envoler vers la Station spatiale internationale, au printemps 2026, a annoncé mercredi l'agence spatiale européenne (ESA). 😎 Passionate sailors who make a childhood dream come true
🫶 Incredibly close-knit teams who help them prepare for years
🌎 Trajectories passing through Point Nemo, where the closest humans will be onboard the International Space Station!
👀 Intense training before departure: everything is thoroughly thought -> risk management, emergency medical procedures, equipment repair, survival equipment proficiency…
🧑🚀 That’s a lot in common with the astronauts’ space missions!
Except that skippers set off to do the Vendée Globe solo & without assistance... whereas astronauts are part of a crew and with permanent assistance of control centers.
Immense respect to the skippers!
I love sailing and I send my encouragement to all of them!
Be strong 💪 and make us dream 🤩! You are living a wonderful human adventure...

L’@AJPAE a décerné ce soir son prix Icare 2024 à l’astronaute de l’ESA @Soph_astro, pilote d’essai de l’ @Armee_de_lair sélectionnée par l’@esa dans sa Promotion 2022 d’astronautes.
Actuellement à l’entrainement à @NASA_Johnson en vue de son décollage début 2026 pour une mission de six mois, Sophie était représentée par @asbradelle, directrice de la communication de l’ESA, qui a accepté le prix en son nom.
Très honorée d’avoir reçu le prix Icare 2024 qui a récompensé précédemment tant de personnes qui m’ont inspirée – astronautes, chercheurs, aviatrices et aviateurs militaires ou civils.
Remerciements aux journalistes de l’@AJPAE qui me permettent, au travers de leurs publications, de partager cette aventure spatiale avec le plus grand nombre !

Four years ago, French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet performed his 3rd EVA during his Alpha mission.
Did you know? Of the ten French astronauts who have flown to space (as of now 😉), only four have ever spacewalked!
🔹 1988: Jean-Loup Chrétien, first French astronaut & first European to perform an EVA.
🔹 1999: Jean-Pierre Haigneré also exits the Mir space station.
🔹 2002: Philippe Perrin helps assemble the ISS during three spacewalks from space shuttle Endeavour!
🔹 2017 & 2021: With six spacewalks and nearly 40 hours spent outside the ISS, @Thom_astro
🥇 tops the list of the 13 Europeans who’ve gone on an EVA.
🔹 2022: She's Italian, but did part of her studies at @ISAE_officiel
! Samantha Cristoforetti becomes the first European woman to conduct a spacewalk.
Each EVA pushes human and technological limits. In the wider context of spaceflight, a spacewalk is truly an adventure within the adventure!
We train to perform complex, physiogically demanding and high-risk tasks, in an environment that’s anything but ordinary. The moment you exit the airlock, the view is so breathtaking you have to stay 100% focused to remember both your mission… and the risks involved. Special shoutout to my Italian colleague @astro_luca
, whose helmet started to fill with water 💦 during one of his EVAs. Hats off to Luca, who always stayed calm!
🤿 Since then, a “snorkel” has been added to the spacesuit, and the CapCom (the only person in direct contact with the astronauts during an EVA) now regularly asks for a ‘HAP check’: the astronaut tilts their head back to make sure the moisture-absorbing pad at the neck is still dry.

PVH, short for Premier Vol Habité (First Human Spaceflight) 🧑🚀🚀 – that was the name of the mission flown by the first French in space, Jean-Loup Chrétien… The tradition of naming French missions after stars or constellations had not yet been established!
Jean-Loup Chrétien launched on 24 June 1982 to the Salyut 7 space station, as part of a CNES-INTERCOSMOS mission. He spent nearly eight days in orbit and carried out around ten French experiments in astronomy 🔭, biology 🧪, materials science 🔬 and medicine 🩺. He even performed the very first ultrasound in space!
Eleven years later, in 1993, @CNES founded an operational structure that enables scientists to prepare and conduct a rich variety of experiments in microgravity. Today, the CADMOS teams are working hard to prepare the French experiments for the upcoming εpsilon mission! 🙏

It’s 4 a.m. and the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (@AFmuseum
) is opening its doors just for me – a huge thank you 🙏 A bit later that morning, I’ll be live with the #SalonduBourget to reveal the name – εpsilon – and patch of the mission I’ve been assigned to!
This is one of the world’s largest aviation museum: more than 350 flying machines 🤩 are displayed across 1.12 million square feet! (That’s over 19 football fields!)
Together with Melanie and Tyler, we’re doing final checks before going live with Paris. Behind me: Endeavour, the Apollo 15 command module… 🚀🌕 In it, NASA astronaut Alfred M. Worden spent three days alone orbiting the Moon in July 1971, while David R. Scott and James B. Irwin landed the lunar module Falcon on the surface. Apollo 15 was the first mission to drive on Moon 🏎️, a giant leap forward!
Visiting a museum, seeing aircraft and space vehicles up close, imagining being in the cockpit… This has nurtured my space dreams ✨ since childhood.
There’s something truly magical about standing face-to-face with the very machines you've read so much about. And that magic? It works at any age.
Standing there gave me a boost of energy and inspiration for the next part of the day: centrifuge training!

This poem is the first in a series I will write throughout the mission, capturing what the journey feels like from the inside.

Patience and resilience
I sit in grass, the sun is warm,
Soft sandy earth, the day is calm,
Wind in my hair, I breathe in slow,
Eyes on Falcon, ready to go.
The gusty winds whisper hold/wait
So patience helps our hearts stay safe.
Our rocket waits, so tall and still,
The Dragon sleeps beside the hill,
Engines quiet, dreams on hold,
Bright metal wings, brave and bold,
The day will move when winds allow,
So patience teaches us to bow.
No dream comes true in just one day,
Patience resilience that’s the way,
So many hands have helped us through,

What a moment to watch a colleague you’ve supported along their journey finally lift off 🚀
It’s a mix of emotions - the tension as you cross fingers and toes that everything goes well, and at the same time the excitement for them as they’re about to begin the same adventure you experienced years ago. The ISS is one of humanity’s most unique workplaces. Living and working up there is an adventure that changes you forever.

🚀🧑🏻🚀Dans quelques heures, @Soph_astro va s’élancer vers le rêve de sa vie : sa première mission vers la Station spatiale internationale.
🤝 Je me souviens encore de notre rencontre suite à la sélection de 2009 qui nous a rapprochés, de tout son parcours, méthodique, pendant les années qui ont suivies, de ses questions, des étapes qu’elle a mises en place une par une sans jamais dévier un instant de son but : la sélection suivante, en 2022, qu’elle a brillamment réussie.
🌌Aujourd’hui, comment ne pas imaginer l’excitation melée d’incrédulité qui doit l’habiter, l’envie de performance et le léger trac, les yeux qui brillent mais le pincement au ventre, que tous ressentent à l’approche du premier décollage.🥹
Le sourire qui tremble un peu au moment de vraiment partir. Ça n’a rien de facile de quitter la terre et les siens aussi longtemps. Rien du tout.
🔬🌍 Mais c’est important, et ça en vaut tellement la peine. Pour le progrès scientifique, bien sûr, mais aussi pour le supplément d’âme que ça nous donne à nous, qui restons sur la Terre, de voir quelqu’un réaliser son rêve de gosse, d’avoir surmonté tous les obstacles, d’avoir persévéré, progressé, d’y avoir cru, pour enfin se catapulter dans l’aventure d’une vie, et d’emmener un peu de notre humanité avec elle.
⭐💪 Nul doute qu’elle a fait tout ce qu’il est humainement possible de faire pour être prête. Alors vas-y Sophie, allume le ciel ! On est tous avec toi. 🫰

On 18 August, ESA astronaut @Soph_astro will take her first spacewalk. A remarkable moment for Sophie, for @esa, and for all those who believe that space exploration is an undeniable part of our future.
The @Space_Station has shown what Europe can achieve when we invest in human exploration and work with international partners. But the Station is not the final destination. It is part of the journey.
Our next great horizon is the Moon. And eventually Mars.
As Sophie steps outside, let us celebrate not only her milestone, but the future it foreshadows.
From low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond, Europe should not simply watch the next chapter of human exploration unfold. We should help write it.

Sophie Adenot assure ce mardi 18 août une mission extravéhiculaire sur l'ISS. L'astronaute française doit mener à bien une opération de réparation qui n'est pas sans risques.
Il sera 14h35 précises, cet après-midi, quand l'astronaute française Sophia Adenot va quitter la Station spatiale internationale pour 6h30 de face à face avec le cosmos, à 400 km de la Terre. Elle deviendra la première française a effectuer une sortie extravéhiculaire en scaphandre dans l'espace, dans le cadre de cette mission qui n'a rien d'un exercice de tourisme : la scientifique de 44 ans va assurer une opération de maintenance.
"Il y a une antenne de liaison qui est en panne et qui doit être remplacée" sur l'ISS, explique sur RTL Lionel Suchet, directeur général du Centre national d'études spatiales. "C'est pour remplacer des éléments qui sont usés ou qui sont abîmés qu'on fait ces sorties, et c'est ce que va faire Sophie aujourd'hui en remplaçant une antenne de transmission entre la station et le sol."
Car comme toute machine, la Station spatiale internationale a besoin d'entretien : "Il y a des choses qui tombent en panne et de temps en temps, il faut réparer. Quand c'est à l'intérieur, évidemment, c'est plus facile. Mais quand il y a des éléments qui ne sont pas accessibles de l'intérieur, il faut faire ces sorties." Une autre est d'ailleurs prévue dans une semaine, cette fois pour faire de la "maintenance préventive".
"On a à changer des câbles, des connecteurs de façon régulière. Ça, c'est prévu. Et puis parfois il y a des choses qui tombent en panne, il faut sortir et c'est moins prévu. Et on se prépare au sol à répondre à ces besoins pour maintenir la station en permanence en bon état de fonctionnement."
"Un moment de sidération pendant quelques secondes"
Une préparation physique mais également mentale. Car se retrouver face à l'immensité du cosmos n'a rien d'anodin. "Vous vous retrouvez dans une ambiance que vous n'avez jamais vécue (...) Quand vous ouvrez le sas de sortie, vous vous retrouvez vraiment en flottaison libre à l'extérieur de la station, c'est un moment tout à fait particulier et beaucoup d'astronautes vivent un moment de sidération pendant quelques secondes. Il faut vraiment une force psychologique pour se remettre au travail dans cette situation, pour revenir à la réalité, si on peut dire, pour se mettre au travail, tellement le moment est exceptionnel quand vous ouvrez la porte du sas qui ouvre vers l'extérieur de la station."
D'autant que l'exercice n'est pas sans risques : "Toute activité dans l'espace est un danger", rappelle le spécialiste. "Un scaphandre, c'est un vaisseau spatial à part entière ; il peut tomber en panne, il peut y avoir des problèmes dans le scaphandre, c'est déjà arrivé. On peut recevoir un micrométéorite qui fait une dépressurisation du scaphandre, c'est possible. Tout peut arriver, et c'est pourquoi toutes les procédures sont prêtes pour rentrer rapidement dans le sas, repressuriser, revenir vers la station."
En outre, les sorties se font toujours à deux : "Il y a toujours deux astronautes qui sont à l'extérieur, qui sont suivis par d'autres astronautes à l'intérieur de la station en permanence et depuis le sol, bien évidemment. Donc, tout est prêt pour répondre à un problème." Lors de cette sortie, Sophie Adenot sera accompagnée par l'astronaute américain Anil Menon.

After a long translation along the Station's structure, Sophie caught up with Anil at the external stowage platform. Anil was transported there, along with the failed antenna, by the Canadarm2 robotic arm. They've worked together to secure the failed antenna and are now ready for clean up activities!

(...) They first retrieved a foot restraint and installed it on Canadarm2, which was operated from inside the Station by NASA astronaut Jack Hathaway.
Anil then rode the robotic arm to External Platform 3, where the spare antenna had been stored since 2009. Sophie made her way there independently, translating along the Station's exterior.
After removing the bolts securing the antenna in place, Anil held it securely while Canadarm2 backed away from the platform and transported him, antenna in hand, to the Z1 truss. At the same time, Sophie retraced her route and translated to Z1 under her own power.
Once there, Sophie cleaned and lubricated the bolt inserts in preparation for the installation. After the spare antenna was mounted on the boom, the duo secured it and completed the electrical connections. They then removed the gimbal locks that had prevented the antenna from rotating during transport and installed a heat shield.
Next, they moved to retrieve the failed antenna that had been temporarily secured to the Station's truss during the previous spacewalk. After Sophie released the tie-downs, Anil took control of the antenna and rode the Canadarm2 to its stowage location, while Sophie translated there independently. Once at the worksite, they worked together to secure the failed antenna permanently.
Sophie then helped Anil detach from the portable foot restraint on Canadarm2, which had carried him for much of the spacewalk. Afterwards, both astronauts translated back to the airlock and ingressed the Station.
Sophie has now accumulated 12 hours and 53 minutes of spacewalking time over two EVAs. This was the 283rd spacewalk in support of space station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades.

A look back at Sophie Adenot's third spacewalk.
Together with @NASA astronaut @Astro_Jessica, Sophie successfully completed US EVA-99, spending 6 hours 49 minutes outside the International Space Station.
The duo completed a series of critical tasks in the vacuum of space, including replacing a key navigational aid to supporting future science upgrades and enhancing Station systems.

Astronautka przejdzie około trzytygodniowy program rehabilitacji w EAC w Kolonii oraz ośrodku envihab, który oferuje „specjalnie zaprojektowane środowisko do kontynuowania działań bezpośrednio po locie ”.
Dla astronauty pierwsze kilka godzin po powrocie na Ziemię to zdecydowanie nie odpoczynek. „Kiedy wraca się z kosmosu, wielu ludzi myśli, że misja dobiegła końca i można się odprężyć. Niestety, tak nie jest ” – wyjaśnił niemiecki astronauta Alexander Gerst.
„Naprawdę męcząca część misji zaczyna się dopiero teraz, ponieważ nagle wiele osób interesuje się tobą i danymi, które mogą uzyskać z twojego ciała”.
Po powrocie astronautów pobierane są różne próbki, które uzupełniają te pobrane przed i w trakcie misji.
Ich wyniki przyczyniają się do badań nad wpływem podróży kosmicznych na metabolizm.
Pewien spokój pojawia się dopiero po tej pierwszej fazie repatriacji i testów. „Przez pierwsze kilka dni będziemy starać się znaleźć połączenie odpoczynku, spędzania czasu z rodziną, być może wygrzewania się na słońcu i poczucia, że jesteśmy na świeżym powietrzu, oddychając świeżym powietrzem ” – wyjaśnia Bimba Hoyer, niemiecka lekarka z ESA, odpowiedzialna za monitorowanie stanu zdrowia Sophie Adenot.
W tym momencie serce powraca do swojej normalnej wielkości. W rzeczywistości skurczyło się w przestrzeni kosmicznej i nie musi już pompować krwi tak mocno jak na Ziemi, aby dostarczyć ją do różnych narządów.
Bimba Hoyer zauważa, że w ciągu pierwszych czterdziestu ośmiu godzin po powrocie „istnieje ryzyko omdlenia”, ponieważ ciśnienie krwi może znacznie spaść.
W międzyczasie, w ciągu pierwszych trzech dni, Sophie Adenot przejdzie badania oceniające jej ogólny stan zdrowia. „Chociaż rozmawialiśmy z nią codziennie, nie widzieliśmy jej fizycznie od ośmiu miesięcy ” – podkreśla lekarz.

Pomimo 2,5 godziny codziennych ćwiczeń fizycznych na pokładzie ISS, astronauci tracą masę mięśniową i gęstość kości podczas długich misji.
Każdego miesiąca tracą średnio „od 1% do 2% gęstości mineralnej kości ”, zauważa Kanadyjska Agencja Kosmiczna.
„Czujesz się ciężko, twoje ramię waży tonę” – powiedział francuski astronauta Michel Tognini, który spędził ponad dwa tygodnie w kosmosie w latach 90., w wywiadzie dla franceinfo .

Po około dziesięciu dniach astronauci będą mogli ponownie prowadzić pojazdy, zauważa lekarz.
I będą mogli to zrobić dopiero po przejściu badania neurologicznego.
Po dwóch tygodniach rehabilitacja Sophie Adenot ma zostać przejęta przez Europejskie Centrum Astronautów na trzeci i ostatni tydzień. Trois semaines de récupération. Pour se remettre en forme et se réadapter à la vie sur Terre, Sophie Adenot va suivre un programme de trois semaines. Au programme : du temps avec ses proches, du repos ainsi que des exercices pour tonifier ses muscles dorsaux et retrouver l'équilibre.
Une mission pleine de records. Sophie Adenot voit sa mission Epsilon entrer dans l'histoire. Elle est la première Française à avoir effectué une sortie extravéhiculaire. Sophie Adenot en a même réalisé trois – un record. Elle détient aussi désormais le titre de la plus longue mission habitée pour un astronaute européen avec 237 jours dans l'espace.

[🇫🇷 version FR 👇] Back on the ground, back home in Europe, and welcomed by family, friends, colleagues, journalists and so many people here in Cologne. What a way to come home! 🫶 Thank you to everyone who was there, and to all of you who liked and shared my posts throughout the mission. You’ve helped shine a light on human spaceflight and what it can bring to life here on Earth.
It took countless people to make this mission possible and successful. But just as importantly, together we made it a joyful one. Rockets, spacecraft and space stations may be extraordinary pieces of technology, but spaceflight is, above all, a human adventure. And it is so much better when that adventure is filled with kindness, positivity and good vibes!
Many thanks as well to the French Air and Space Force for bringing me to Cologne. My 18 years of service taught me so much and played an important part in the journey that led me to become an astronaut. The moment I stepped aboard the plane, I felt at home, surrounded by family, my aviator brothers and sisters.
And now, first things first: getting my “Earth legs” and “Earth balance” back! 🌍

All that exercise in orbit is paying off: my muscles are in good shape! Balance is another story though: even the simplest exercises still require a lot of focus. But it’s getting better little by little. I’m on the right track!

Just in time! Some cities seem to enjoy hiding under the clouds ☁️ whenever the Station flies overhead… It took until 6 October, the day before undocking, for me to finally catch Cologne and the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) on camera, with no clouds!
I’m currently flying towards that very airport, so to all the @esaspaceflight teams at EAC and the German Aerospace Center (@DLR_SpaceAgency): I can’t wait to see you again! 🫶

2) Dziś obchodzimy Światowy Dzień Osteoporozy.
Jako kobieta po czterdziestce, naturalnie spodziewałabym się, że moja masa kostna zacznie spadać.
Pierwsze wyniki są zachęcające: po prawie ośmiu miesiącach w kosmosie wstępne oceny nie wykazały znaczących zmian w masie kostnej astronautki , a nawet niewielki wzrost w niektórych obszarach!

[🇫🇷 version FR 👇] Today is World Osteoporosis Day. As a woman in my 40s, my bone mass would naturally be expected to start decreasing. Add months in microgravity, where our bones no longer have to support our body weight as they do on Earth, and you might expect that decline to accelerate.
The first results are encouraging: after nearly eight months in space, my initial assessments showed no significant change in my bone mass, and even a slight increase in some areas! While there is still much to learn from the data, it’s a powerful reminder of the important role that very targeted exercise, alongside good nutrition, can play in protecting bone health, in space and on Earth!

[🇫🇷 version FR 👇] We spent a bit of time bobbing in the waves after splashdown, and the recovery vessel is not that big either, so I can’t express how happy I was to be loaded into a helicopter for the flight to shore. I think my exact words as we started hovering were: “Aaah, finally! A machine that flies and no more waves!”
Best of all, I started my career as a cockpit design research engineer for @AirbusHeli, working on the H225. I later flew the same helicopter on challenging Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) missions with the French Air and Space Force (@Armee_de_lair). And later as a test pilot, I did many test flights on the H225 with Cazaux flight test center @DGA. So being back in an H225 after returning from space felt very special, both familiar and comforting.

From microgravity 🛰️ to anti-gravity! Back at the European Astronaut Center, post-flight reconditioning included running on the anti-gravity treadmill, which, despite its name, does not actually eliminate gravity… 😁
The lower body is enclosed in an air-pressure chamber. By adjusting the pressure, the treadmill reduces the load on the legs, muscles and joints, allowing you to walk or run while bearing less than your normal body weight.
That was fun, but I was so happy to be actually running outside a few days after! 🏃♀️➡️🌴

Podczas misji εpsilon astronautka brała udział w badaniu Exposome Signature, badającym, w jaki sposób astronauci przystosowują się do skumulowanych obciążeń związanych z lotem kosmicznym.
Badanie obejmuje również załogi okrętów podwodnych.
Podobnie jak astronauci, doświadczają one izolacji, przebywania w zamkniętej przestrzeni oraz wymagających warunków operacyjnych – jednak bez udziału mikrograwitacji czy promieniowania kosmicznego.
Porównanie tych dwóch grup pozwala naukowcom ustalić, które zmiany są specyficzne właśnie dla lotów w kosmos.
Badanie uwzględnia szeroki wachlarz czynników, w tym markery stanu zapalnego, funkcjonowanie układu odpornościowego, metabolizm, mikrobiom oraz aktywność genów.
Analiza trwa jeszcze długo po powrocie na Ziemię, co pozwala śledzić proces ponownej adaptacji organizmu do ziemskich warunków.

[🇫🇷 version FR 👇] Space missions definitely put every system in the human body to the test! 😅
During the εpsilon mission, I took part in Exposome Signature, a study looking at how astronauts adapt to the combined stresses of spaceflight.
Interestingly, the study also follows submariners. Like us, they experience isolation, confinement and demanding operational conditions, but without microgravity or cosmic radiation. Comparing the two groups helps researchers distinguish which changes may be specific to spaceflight.
🧬 The study looks at a wide range of factors, including markers of inflammation, immune function, metabolism, the microbiome and gene activity. It continues long after splashdown to track how our bodies readapt to life on Earth. 🌍
What we learn could help us prepare for future human exploration missions, while also improving our understanding of the effects of prolonged stress and isolation on the human body. Go science! 🔬

Skan mózgu astronautki wykonany jeszcze przed opuszczeniem Ziemi.
Eksperyment ESA o nazwie „Brain-DTI” wykorzystuje zaawansowane skanowanie metodą rezonansu magnetycznego (MRI) do badania zmian zachodzących w mózgach astronautów podczas długotrwałych misji kosmicznych.
Porównując skany wykonane przed misją i po niej, naukowcy mogą analizować, w jaki sposób mózg dokonuje wewnętrznej reorganizacji, aby przystosować się do mikrograwitacji i życia w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej, a także jak po powrocie na Ziemię zaczyna ponownie adaptować się do ziemskich warunków.
W ciągu pierwszych 15. dni po powrocie astronautka przeszła trzy badania MRI w placówce DLR.
Kolejne czeka astronautkę za około sześć miesięcy.
Projekt Brain-DTI pomaga naukowcom lepiej zrozumieć przyczyny choroby lokomocyjnej w kosmosie, a także problemy z równowagą i dezorientacją.

[🇫🇷 version FR👇] This colorful, almost tropical-looking picture 🦜 is actually a scan of my brain, taken before I left Earth… In microgravity, where there is no familiar sense of up or down, the brain has to learn to interpret signals about movement, balance and orientation differently.
🧠 ESA’s Brain-DTI experiment uses advanced MRI scans to study changes in astronauts’ brains during a long-duration space mission. By comparing scans taken before and after the mission, researchers can study how the brain rewires itself to adapt to microgravity and living in 3 dimensions, and how it begins adapting back after the space mission. I had three MRIs at a @DLR_en facility during the first 15 days after my return, and will have one more in about six months.
Brain-DTI helps scientists better understand what’s behind space motion sickness (which I’m happy to say I didn’t experience!), balance and disorientation, and the knowledge gained is also helping people affected by balance disorders on Earth. Go science! 🔬
