This change maximizes launch opportunities for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12, while also accommodating the Artemis II launch windows. As both missions advance toward launch and rely on resources and facilities at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, this change helps deconflict operations.

🚀 Yet another meaningful moment on the path to space: the tree-planting ceremony at the European Astronaut Center (EAC) on 5 January 2026! The snow ❄ made this moment even more memorable!
Planting a tree before a space mission carries a powerful message: spaceflight often appears to be a journey away from our planet, but in truth, it brings us closer to it. From orbit, Earth 🌍 appears fragile, unified, and precious.
As an ESA astronaut, I am proud to represent a continent that believes in cooperation 🤝 beyond borders. The International Space Station is one of humanity’s greatest collective achievements, in which Europe plays a vital role. Each astronaut’s tree symbolizes our commitment to exploration that serves science, peace, and future generations.
🌲 Trees take time to grow. They require patience, care, and trust in the future, and space exploration follows the same logic. It is built over generations, through shared effort, knowledge, and perseverance. No astronaut flies alone — we are carried by the work of countless people and by the legacy of those who came before us! 🙏
When I return from space 🍁, I’ll fly straight to EAC for the recovery and rehabilitation phase, and hope to see this tree stronger, taller, and more deeply rooted — just like the values that guide human spaceflight: curiosity, unity, and respect for our planet…

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 to Study Adaptation to Altered Gravity
Nathan Cranford Feb 05, 2026
NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission is preparing to launch for a long-duration science mission aboard the International Space Station. During the mission, select crew members will participate in human health studies focused on understanding how astronauts’ bodies adapt to the low-gravity environment of space, including a new study examining subtle changes in blood flow.
The experiments, led by NASA’s Human Research Program, include astronauts performing ultrasounds of their blood vessels to study altered circulation and completing simulated lunar landings to assess disorientation during gravitational transitions, among other tasks. The results will help NASA plan for extended stays in space and future exploration missions.
The new study, called Venous Flow, will examine whether time aboard the space station increases the chance of crew members developing blood clots. In weightlessness, blood and other bodily fluids can move toward the head, potentially altering circulation. Any resulting blood clots could pose serious health risks, including strokes.
“Our goal is to use this information to better understand how fluid shifts affect clotting risk, so that when astronauts go on long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars, we can build the best strategies to keep them safe,” said Dr. Jason Lytle, a physiologist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston who is leading the study.
To learn more, crew members in this study will undergo preflight and postflight MRIs, ultrasound scans, blood draws, and blood pressure checks. During the flight, crew members also will capture their own jugular vein ultrasounds, take blood pressure readings, and draw blood samples for scientists to analyze after their return to Earth.
In another study, called Manual Piloting, select crew members will perform multiple simulated Moon landings before, during, and after the mission. Designed to assess their piloting and decision-making skills, participants attempt to fly a virtual spacecraft toward the lunar South Pole region — the same area future Artemis crews plan to explore.
“Astronauts may experience disorientation during gravitational transitions, which can make tasks like landing a spacecraft challenging,” said Dr. Scott Wood, a neuroscientist at NASA Johnson who is coordinating the investigation.
While spacecraft landings on the Moon and Mars are expected to be automated, crews must be prepared to take over and pilot the vehicle if necessary.
“This study will help us examine astronauts’ ability to operate a spacecraft after adapting from one gravity environment to another, and whether training near the end of their spaceflight can help prepare crews for landing,” said Wood. “We’ll monitor their ability to manually override, redirect, and control a vehicle, which will guide our strategy for training Artemis crews for future Moon missions.”
The risk of astronauts experiencing disorientation from gravitational transitions increases the longer they’re in space. For this study, which debuted during the agency’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission, researchers plan to recruit seven astronauts for short-term private missions lasting up to 30 days and 14 astronauts for long-duration missions lasting at least 106 days. A control group performing the same tasks as the astronauts will provide a basis of comparison.
A different study will investigate potential treatments for spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome, or SANS, which causes vision and eye changes. Researchers will examine whether taking a daily B vitamin supplement can help relieve SANS symptoms.
After returning to Earth, select crew members will participate in a study that documents any injuries, such as scrapes or bruises that may occur during landing. Transitioning from weightlessness to Earth’s gravity can increase the injury risk without proper safeguards. The data will help researchers improve spacecraft design to better protect crews from landing forces.

From quarantine, L-7
🤷♀️ Sometimes, people ask me questions to which I don’t have the answers!!!
This is either because I have never been to space yet or because the answers are simply not known yet!!!
Here are some examples of answers I don’t have…
1/ “How will you feel on the day of launch?” 🚀-> I don’t know! I’ve never experienced sitting in a capsule on top of a rocket! I bet I’ll be super happy and grateful! 🤩
Happy: I see it as a very joyful moment that comes after such an intense training period. 🙏 Grateful: you never go to space alone. Spaceflight is a team sport! Thank you to all support teams!
2/ “How will you feel when you see Earth 🌍 from space for the first time?” -> I don’t know! The highest altitude I flew during helicopter 🚁 flight testing was about FL190 (5,79km). That day, to anticipate and mitigate risks, we had parachutes 🪂 on us and a mask to provide oxygen.
Commercial airplanes typically fly around FL400, about 12km high. In space, onboard the ISS, we’ll fly at around 420km / 260 miles high!
3/ “When will you come back to Earth? 🪂 -> I don’t know precisely! It should be around 8 or 9 months from now… Crew 12 is ready for a long-duration mission! 🫡 There is a running joke among astronauts that I like: “You only know for sure your launch time & return time the day after the event!” 🤣
Spaceflight is an extremely complex endeavor. It requires a ton of calculations and safety analyses. The Mission Control Center teams give their “GO” only when they are sure that safety is 100% assured.
Astronauts are trained to be resilient to change, and I like this motto: “The only constant is change!” So true in life in general, isn’t it?
So… ask me these questions again after I come back from space! 😉

Yeah. So as a helicopter pilot, I started my career as a search and rescue pilot. So for four years, I did search and rescue operations in peace time in France, but as well in war times, I went to Afghanistan two times and rescued wounded soldiers. Did some logistics operations over there. And then after, I changed Squadron and I went to the VIP squadron to fly the French president and as well on the head of states, European head of states, as well, throughout France and Europe. That was very interesting mission and completely different from my background as a search and rescue pilot. And I’m very grateful I did on those two different experiences. [...]

NASA astronauts will soon fly with the latest smartphones, beginning with Crew-12 and Artemis II. We are giving our crews the tools to capture special moments for their families and share inspiring images and video with the world. Just as important, we challenged long-standing processes and qualified modern hardware for spaceflight on an expedited timeline. That operational urgency will serve NASA well as we pursue the highest-value science and research in orbit and on the lunar surface. This is a small step in the right direction.

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 Completes Dry Dress Rehearsal
Elyna Niles-Carnes February 9, 2026 2:55 PM
(...) NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 crew members achieved a critical prelaunch milestone by completing their dry dress rehearsal at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev practiced launch day operations, including suiting up, traveling to the pad, and boarding the spacecraft. These operations are done without fueling the rocket, which is why it’s called a dry dress rehearsal.
The launch team also practiced countdown operations and confirmed the spacecraft, crew access, and emergency egress procedures are on track before fueling the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
Earlier today, agency leaders and partners held a prelaunch news conference to discuss the upcoming Crew-12 mission. Watch the full briefing here.(...)

L-3! All in the name of style! 🤣😅🤭
Arriving in Florida means shifting our sleep schedule to prepare for launch. We put on these blue light–filtering glasses two hours before our planned bedtime, set at 14:00 Florida time since we arrived at Cape Canaveral… ⏰ The alarm goes off at 21:45!
🤔 Our launch is scheduled for 12:01 CET – Paris time – on Wednesday, which is also 6:01am local time in Florida – EST... or 5:01am Houston time – CST. We need about 8 hours between waking up and engine ignition. To be at 100% of our energy during the dynamic phases of flight, getting a proper “night” of sleep right before is essential!
Second advantage: the clocks on board the @Space_Station are set to UTC, which is one hour behind Paris winter time (CET). In other words, by shifting our sleep cycle here in Florida, we’re already doing part of the adaptation needed for life in orbit. As a result, we’ll be more operational when we arrive!
Hahaha! Are you ready for the countdown?
Leave a comment:
🚀😅 -> if I managed to twist your brain with all these time zones
or
🚀❤️-> if you understood everything!!!
