16.01.1944 porucznik Stewart R. Graham, USCG, wykonał lot helikopterem Sikorsky YR-4B o numerze seryjnym 46445 z pokładu brytyjskiego statku handlowego SS Daghestan, podczas konwoju z Nowego Jorku do Liverpoolu.
Wrócił po 30 minutach, stając się pierwszym, który poleciał helikopterem ze statku.

B-52 Stratofortress 58-0256 zderzył się z KC-135 Stratotanker 61-0273 na wysokości 31 000 stóp podczas tankowania w powietrzu w pobliżu Palomares w Hiszpanii.
Siedmiu członków załogi zginęło, dwie z czterech głowic jądrowych B-52 pękły.
Dwie bomby wylądowały nietknięte.
