WASHINGTON — Commercial space station developer Vast Space has signed a deal with SpaceX for two private astronaut missions to the International Space Station, pending NASA approval.

Vast announced Dec. 19 that it completed an agreement with SpaceX to fly two Crew Dragon spacecraft to the ISS on what NASA calls private astronaut missions, or PAMs. These are short-duration missions to the station and serve as a stepping-stone to future commercial space stations.

“Enabling payload and crewed missions to the ISS is a key part of Vast’s strategy, allowing us to further our collaboration with NASA and global space agencies,” Max Haot, chief executive of Vast, said in a statement. “These missions not only strengthen our expertise in human spaceflight operations and collaboration with NASA but also position Vast as a leading contender to deliver the next-generation successor to the ISS.”

COLORADO SPRINGS — Commercial space station developer Vast has signed three more payload customers for its Haven-1 station set to launch in a little more than a year.

Vast announced April 8 that Japan Manned Space Systems Corporation (JAMSS), Interstellar Lab and Exobiosphere will fly research payloads on the Haven-1 station launching no earlier than May 2026. They join Redwire and Yuri as payload partners for the station.

JAMSS, which has supported research on Japan’s Kibo module on the International Space Station, will provide a multi-purpose payload facility for microgravity research on Haven-1. Interstellar Lab, a French company, will provide an advanced life sciences research facility called Eden 1.0 that will be used for experiments such as plant growth. Exobiosphere, based in Luxembourg, will fly a biotechnology payload to perform pharmaceutical and healthcare experiments.

Now is the time to meet @NASA's call to transition its low-Earth orbit presence from the International Space Station (ISS) to a lower-cost commercial option. Vast is ready to deliver for America and our international partners. We will be delivering the world's first, most affordable, commercial space station in 2026: Haven-1.

Haven-1 will be Vast's first step toward a long-term commercial presence in orbit.

Purpose-built for scientific research, in-space manufacturing, and human habitation, Haven-1 will ensure humanity’s presence in low-Earth orbit. Backed by a world-class team and built with speed, safety, and efficiency at its core, this marks the next era in human space exploration—not just reaching orbit, but staying there.

Learn more about how we are making it happen.

Vast and Cedars-Sinai Partner on Microgravity Science and Crew Health
April 16, 2026

Vast, the company developing next-generation space stations, today announced a strategic collaboration with Cedars-Sinai, one of the nation’s premier academic health systems and a pioneer in regenerative medicine and biomedical research, at the 41st Space Symposium.

Cedars-Sinai has established the Center for Space Medicine Research to advance space medicine. The center has sent several experiments to space to study how microgravity influences cell biology and human physiology. It also is advancing the use of microgravity to manufacture unique biomaterials in space for translational use on Earth.

Vast and Cedars-Sinai will work together on a broad range of initiatives, including collaborative research and development in areas including stem cell and organoid research and biomanufacturing technology demonstrations in microgravity, with applications in regenerative medicine, longevity, and disease modeling. Additional collaboration areas include astronaut medical support, space-based research, and joint education and outreach initiatives. (...)
