(...) Lądowanie nastąpiło o godzinie 21:44 CET (czas na Marsie), zaś pierwszy sygnał potwierdzający to udane lądowanie dotarł do Ziemi o 21:55 CET. Tuż po lądowaniu łazik nadał potwierdzenie udanego lądowania.

The largest, most advanced rover NASA has sent to another world touched down on Mars Thursday, after a 203-day journey traversing 293 million miles (472 million kilometers). Confirmation of the successful touchdown was announced in mission control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California at 3:55 p.m. EST (12:55 p.m. PST).

After a journey of 292.5 million miles (470.8 million kilometers), NASA’s Perseverance rover has finally reached its destination – an ancient lakebed in Jezero Crater on Mars. The rover, the most complex machine ever sent to the Red Planet, successfully touched down today at 12:55 PM PST (3:55 PM EST). It has also already sent back the first couple images, and more, higher-resolution ones will be coming in the next hours and days.

Postmark will mark Perseverance on Mars, if rover survives landing

February 16, 2021 — The U.S. Postal Service plans to mark NASA's next landing on Mars later this week, if indeed the agency's Perseverance rover makes it safely down to the surface of the Red Planet.

A special pictorial postmark has been designed to commemorate the touch down of the fifth U.S. wheeled robotic explorer on Mars. Perseverance is set to land in Jezero Crater on Thursday (Feb. 18), beginning NASA's first mission dedicated to searching for and caching signs of life for a future return to Earth.

Eric Berger@SciGuySpace Underappreciated is how hard NASA had to work last spring as the pandemic was ramping up to finish Perseverance at JPL—amidst a statewide lockdown—and traveling to and from launch site in Florida. Remarkable how it came together, and today we're on Mars.

Kilka przemyśleń "świeżo" po wylądowaniu:

- otoczenie miejsca lądowania - na pierwszy rzut oka wygląda to tak, że Percy wylądował na terenie bardzo podobnym do tego z Ares Vallis, w bliskim sąsiedztwie sporego pola głazów i kamieni mniej więcej na południe i południowy-wschód od miejsca lądowania. Te pole kamieni i głazów widać już doskonale ze zdjęć satelitarnych. na północ i północny-zachód zaś rozciąga się "wyspa" z polem wydm.

- testy z helikopterkiem (Ingenuity) wg mnie powinny się zacząć również w miarę szybko (po dogłębnym sprawdzeniu stanu systemów pokładowych łazika), głównie z uwagi na założenie ryzyka utraty kontaktu z Percy. Naukowcom i inżynierom zależeć będzie zapewne na w miarę szybkim sprawdzeniu jak w rzadkiej atmosferze marsjańskiej radzi sobie ta mała fruwajka. Również teren, w którym wylądował Percy jest na tyle optymalny i w miarę bezpieczny do przeprowadzenia tych testów z lataniem. Wg naukowców przewidziane jest póki co 5 lotów Inge, pierwszy ma polegać na wzbiciu się tego maleństwa na wysokość 3 m i posadzeniu go ponownie na powierzchni, drugi z lotów ma polegać na wzbiciu się ponownie na 3m ale z lotem przemieszczającym. Kolejne próby mają być już bardziej zaawansowane i trwać dłużej. Teraz pytanie - jak to wygląda z żywotnością fruwającego kurdupla. Bo o ile Percy ma na pokładzie "dzbanek" RTG, który skutecznie umila mu czas na zimnej powierzchni, o tyle Inge tego luksusu nie ma. Pytanie zatem czy helikopterek jest w stanie przetrwać marsjańską noc, czy jednak te testy muszą być koniecznie przeprowadzone w ciągu jednego solu, co moim zdaniem, wydaje się bardzo mało prawdopodobne. Naukowcy po każdym takim locie/próbie będą przecież musieli zebrać sporą garść informacji aby "polecieć" dalej z kolejnymi testami.

Ingenuity jest w stanie przetrwać marsjańską noc. Przez 6 lat budował go zespół liczący kilkaset osób.
