The Orion spacecraft recently ignited its main engine on the service module for about six minutes to provide about 6,000 pounds of thrust. This maneuver sets the Artemis II astronauts on the path to the Moon.

Per a question asked in the presser, Integrity's crew broke the Isaacman  height record of 1400 km at 2306 UTC Apr 1, a mere 13 minutes after  launch.

🚀 Udany manewr TLI! Jesteśmy w drodze na Księżyc! 🌕
Już od kilku godzin czworo astronautów misji Artemis II oficjalnie podróżuje w kierunku Księżyca. Swoją drogą, dobrze ich w końcu zobaczyć! 😊
O godzinie 1:49 czasu polskiego czyli o 23:49 czasu GMT załoga odpaliła na 5 minut i 50 sekund główny silnik statku Orion (OMS). Manewr o nazwie Trans-Lunar Injection (TLI) pozwolił pojazdowi zwiększyć prędkość i wejść na trajektorię prowadzącą w kierunku naszego naturalnego satelity.
Do zbliżenia dojdzie w piątym dniu misji, w nocy z poniedziałku na wtorek (6/7 kwietnia). Statek minie wtedy Księżyc w odległości nieco ponad 7 tysięcy kilometrów od jego powierzchni.
Tym samym załoga Artemis II zapisze się w historii. Astronauci znajdą się najdalej od Ziemi spośród wszystkich ludzi w
dziejach, pobijając rekord ustanowiony podczas programu Apollo. 🙂

Nie wiadomo, ale teraz Orion jest w odległości około 140 tys. km od Ziemi.

To jest lot bez wejścia na orbitę na Księżyca z trajektorią swobodnego powrotu (free-return) podobnie jak w Apollo 13. Nawet jeśli coś stanie lub silniki padną to astronauci i tak wrócą na Ziemię.

Recently, a team from Kennedy Space Center’s Exploration Research and Technology Programs performed the first optical quality testing on a window that is ready for installation in the docking hatch of NASA’s Orion spacecraft. On Orion, three panes comprise the hatch window. This hybrid combination of glass and plastics is a first for NASA and will safeguard the spacecraft’s inhabitants as one glass pane shields them from the heat of re-entry, another acrylic pane provides protection from the vacuum that surrounds the craft when it is outside of Earth’s atmosphere, and the third pane serves as a redundancy for the glass pane.

With help from mission control, Koch was guided through some plumbing tricks until she finally got it going, but not before having to resort to using contingency urine storage bags.

Koch later said she was proud to call herself “the space plumber”, noting that it had just been an issue of the equipment needing to warm up.

“I like to say that it is probably the most important piece of equipment onboard,” she added. “So we were all breathing a sigh of relief when it turned out to be just fine.”

After the crew was asked about the deep divisions at home and what message they had for Americans, Glover replied by pointing to their singular vantage point and the view it had afforded them of Earth.

ICPS-2 has completed its first burn of the RL10C-2 main engine, placing the Orion spacecraft and Artemis II astronauts into their preliminary Earth orbit. They will coast in this orbit for the next hour before the apogee raise burn is planned.

The ULA-manufactured ICPS-2 upper stage successfully completed its role in the Artemis II mission, delivering Orion to the desired orbit and serving as the focal point in the spacecraft’s first manual piloting in space.
