(...) Flying yesterday’s mission was B1062, a dedicated “East Coast Falcon” which becomes only the third “single-stick” Falcon 9 core to reach a life-leading 16th flight. She now sits in joint first place on the league table with her sisters B1058—the one-time ride of “Bob and Doug”—and B1060, both of which passed 16 launches in July and then each logged a 17th within days of each other, just last month. History-making SpaceX booster mostly destroyed in post-flight topple

December 26, 2023 — The first U.S. commercial rocket to launch astronauts into orbit has met its end after being destroyed during its latest post-flight recovery.

Referred to by SpaceX by its serial number, B1058, the Falcon 9 first stage was being transported back to shore after its record-setting 19th flight when "the booster tipped over "due to high winds and waves," the company reported on X, the social network previously known as Twitter, on Sunday (Dec. 25). Two days earlier, the stage had helped launch 23 of SpaceX's Starlink broadband satellites before successfully touching down on the company's droneship "Just Read the Instructions," which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Florida. (...)

With the loss of 1058, SpaceX is believed to have 16 flight-proven, active Falcon 9 first stages still remaining and three pending their first use. (...)

SpaceX Launches June’s Sixth Falcon 9 Mission, Deploys 1,000th Starlink of Year
by Ben Evans , June 23, 2024 [AS]

In a launch previously denied to her sister B1073, the 11-times-used B1078 rises atop a pillar of flame at 1:15 p.m. EDT Sunday for the sixth Falcon 9 mission of June. Photo Credit: Jeff Seibert/AmericaSpace

(...) This particular mission has been waiting in the wings for almost two weeks, having originally been earmarked to ride the B1073 booster—already a 15-launch veteran—on 12 June. However, after falling foul to a pair of back-to-back weather scrubs, the mission finally suffered a nail-biting pad abort at T-0 on 14 June and SpaceX elected to temporarily set B1073 aside for inspections and reassigned B1078 in her stead.

It would be B1078’s fifth mission of 2024 and the 11th of her career. And with this unexpected reassignment, she has been rotated in only three and a half weeks since her most recent flight in late May, marking this as her quickest-yet turnaround: only 26 days. (...)

SpaceX launches 20 Starlink satellites on the 400th Falcon 9 rocket
November 24, 2024 Will Robinson-Smith
Update 12:56 a.m. EST (0556 UTC): SpaceX landed its Falcon 9 first stage booster following liftoff.

The 400th Falcon 9 rocket soars to space on November 23, 2024, from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. Image: SpaceX

Against the backdrop of a characteristically foggy night at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, SpaceX launched its 400th Falcon 9 rocket on an orbital flight. The Starlink 9-13 mission also marked SpaceX’s 100th launch to date from the West Coast.

Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) happened at 9:25:30 p.m. PST (12:25:30 a.m. EST, 0525:30 UTC). SpaceX didn’t publicly announce its target T-0 prior to launch, but the CelesTrak website said SpaceX provided it with that launch time.

The mission appeared to be the first time that SpaceX would not stream the launch or booster landing live. Unlike previous recent missions, SpaceX didn’t made a statement on its profile on X, formerly Twitter, about the upcoming launch or how to view it.

Suddenly at 12:27 a.m. EST (0527 UTC), nearly two minutes after liftoff, SpaceX began streaming onboard camera views from its Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX founder Elon Musk also shared a link to the livestream two minutes after it began. (...)

Carlos Slim orders to cancel his collaboration with Elon Musk’s Starlink
February 24, 2025

In a significant business development, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has decided to cancel his collaboration with Elon Musk’s Starlink. The decision comes after a series of tensions between the two magnates, culminating in Slim’s choice to invest in his own infrastructure rather than relying on Starlink’s satellite technology.

Slim’s company, América Móvil, announced plans to invest $22 billion over the next three years to enhance its telecommunications infrastructure. This move is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen its position in the market and reduce dependency on external partners like Starlink. The decision is expected to have a substantial financial impact on Musk’s company, which had anticipated a lucrative partnership in Latin America.

No entity has definitively matched SpaceX's 500 orbital launches. SpaceX hit 515 by June 2025, driven by reusable Falcon rockets. NASA's crewed launches total ~250, with robotic missions possibly pushing past 1,000, but orbital specifics are unclear. Roscosmos's Soyuz has over 1,800 launches since 1966, likely including many orbital, but exact counts are uncertain. China's CASC and others like ESA or JAXA likely fall short of 500. SpaceX's rapid pace since 2010 suggests they're the first, but historical data gaps for Roscosmos leave room for doubt. Comparing eras and launch types complicates the answer.

Congrats to the entire  @SpaceX team for achieving 165 launches🚀 ! While we originally set out for 170, we actually revised the manifest to 165 this summer based on business and manifest needs. We have two more Falcon launches to go in 2025 for extra credit for a total of 1-6-7 🤣!
Worth noting that SL6-99 was also our last single stick from 39A for some time as we put full focus on Falcon Heavy launches and ramping Starship from the Cape!

Zmiana orbity konstelacji Starlink
By Krzysztof Kanawka on 3 stycznia 2026

(...) Firma SpaceX argumentuje, że wraz ze spadkiem aktywności słonecznej gęstość górnych warstw atmosfery spadnie. W konsekwencji, proces naturalnej deorbitacji satelitów spowolni. Obniżenie orbit satelitów Starlink przyśpieszy proces deorbitacji, który wg firmy SpaceX zostanie skrócony z ponad 4 lat do zaledwie kilku miesięcy. Szybsza deorbitacja przełoży się do zwiększenia ogólnego bezpieczeństwa w przestrzeni wokół Ziemi. (...)

Elon Musk’s Bold Vision to Mass Produce 10,000 Starlink Satellites
Warisha Rashid May 30, 2025 [techi.com]

Elon Musk outlines his ambitious goal to deploy 10,000 Starlink satellites annually, aiming to revolutionize global broadband connectivity.

(...) Musk’s new strategy plans to scale production to 5,000 “V3” Starlink satellites a year before increasing to an astounding 10,000 a year. These new-generation satellites represent a leap in technological advancement. Each is the size of a Boeing 737 and is designed to deliver 1 terabit per second (Tbps) of download bandwidth. The version 3 SpaceX Starship could launch over 100 version 3 Starlink satellites.  (...)

Due to the size and weight limitations of the V3 satellites, the currently utilized Falcon 9 rockets will need to be replaced by a more powerful launch vehicle. SpaceX’s bets are on Starship, which is designed as a fully reusable spacecraft capable of lifting heavier payloads into orbit and beyond. Musk announced plans to manufacture 1,000 Starship vehicles each year, which is a drastic increase from the current rate of rocket production and supports SpaceX’s vision for Mars colonization. (...)

“By the end of the year we’re aiming for 170 launches,” states Mason, Anne, director of national security space launch at SpaceX. Each Falcon 9 flight is capable of deploying 20 to 28 satellites, and each booster is subsequently landed and reused to lower the cost and increase the number of launches. This pace is supported by the SpaceX manufacturing pace of a Falcon 9 second stage every two and a half days SpaceX is said to be. (...)

This enhancement boosts coverage globally and lowers latency. Gen2 and some V3 satellites are also equipped with 25-square-meter antennas that enable mobile device direct connections through T-Mobile partnerships.  (...)

SpaceX Sees Big Drop in Number of Starlink Satellite De-Orbits in 2025
Michael Kan Edited By:  Chloe Albanesius January 2, 2026

(Credit: Jonathan McDowell)

The company de-orbited 218 Starlink satellites between June and November, down from the 472 that burned up in the Earth's atmosphere in the previous six months.

(...) However, the Starlink constellation has become so large—spanning over 10,000 satellites—that the rate of satellite burn-ups faced a sharp increase a year ago. The company de-orbited as many as four to five Starlink satellites per day, according to astronomer and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell. (...)

SpaceX later revealed it had de-orbited 472 satellites between December 2024 and May 2025. But it only de-orbited 218 from June to November, its report says.

Most of the de-orbited satellites, at 167, belonged to the first-generation Starlink constellation, which began serving the first US customers over five years ago. The remaining de-orbited satellites belonged to the second-generation constellation.

McDowell confirmed in an email that SpaceX has "largely completed the mass retirement of the older sats. Having said that, the reentry rate is still large compared to say 2023.”

In his own annual “space activities” report, McDowell also noted that SpaceX has launched 10,801 Starlink satellites. So far, 1,391 satellites—or about 13% of the constellation—have re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere, according to his count.

Despite the recent decrease, re-entries could spike again as the constellation ages and more satellites face retirement. The Starlink constellation currently has 9,399 operational satellites. (...)

This comes as SpaceX announced a "significant reconfiguration of its satellite constellation focused on increasing space safety." About 4,400 satellites orbiting between 480km and 550km will be lowered, which will help reduce the "ballistic decay time" by more than 80%, "or 4+ years reduced to a few months," says Michael Nicolls, VP of Starlink Engineering.
