Ulf Merbold war der erste (west-)deutsche Astronaut im All, Matthias Maurer der bislang letzte. Das Technik Museum Speyer feiert am 11. November 2023 gleich mehrere Jubiläen. Europas größte Raumfahrtausstellung „Apollo and Beyond“ wurde vor 15 Jahren eröffnet, darunter die sowjetische Raumfähre „Buran OK-GLI“. Ebenfalls wird das 40. Jubiläum des Jungfernfluges des „Spacelab“ begangen, bei dem der ESA-Astronaut Ulf Merbold seine erste Weltraummission unternahm. Zur Feier dieses Jubiläums wird ESA-Astronaut Matthias Maurer, der genau zwei Jahre zuvor seine ISS-Mission gestartet hat, seinen Ausstellungsbereich im Technik Museum Speyer eröffnen. Das Jubiläumsprogramm umfasst Vorträge von Ulf Merbold und Matthias Maurer über ihre Missionen sowie eine Talkrunde mit beiden Astronauten und dem Ausstellungskurator Gerhard Daum.
