It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda Ann Dishman Stafford, who departed this life on September 8, 2025, in Satellite Beach, Florida, at the age of 82. Linda was born on December 23, 1942, in Chelsea, Oklahoma, and lived a life filled with adventure, strength, and devotion to her family.
In her early years, Linda’s life was shaped by the unique journey of a military family. She married young and spent much of her early adulthood traveling across the United States while raising her two children, Mark Hill and Kassie Pierce, during a time when her family was stationed at numerous Air Force bases. Their travels took them to Keesler AFB in Mississippi in 1962, Wichita Falls, Texas, where Mark was born in 1963, Rapid City, South Dakota in 1966, and Wildwood AFB in Kenai, Alaska, where Kassie was born in 1967. The family later moved to McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas, and spent time in Oklahoma, Maryland and Wisconsin, before finally settling in Oklahoma City in 1980.
During these years, Linda navigated the challenges of frequent moves with grace and resilience, always creating a loving home for her children no matter where life took them. After her first marriage ended, she focused on her family and built a successful career, becoming the first female produce buyer hired by Skrivner in Oklahoma, breaking barriers for women in the workplace through her determination and strength.
On December 27, 1988, Linda married Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford, former astronaut and American hero. Together, they shared a remarkable life, filled with extraordinary adventures and travel. Linda and Tom journeyed to some of the most iconic places in the world, including the pyramids of Egypt, ancient Rome, an African safari, the Australian Outback, and a breathtaking ride aboard the Orient Express in China. They visited Russia many times to spend time with dear friends—the cosmonauts—and explored destinations such as India, Hawaii, France, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Cambodia. One of Linda’s most unforgettable experiences was circling the globe aboard the Coors Light Concorde flight in 1995, which set an eastbound record and allowed her the rare thrill of celebrating New Year’s Eve twice in one night.
In 2004, Tom and Linda expanded their family when they adopted two boys from Russia, opening their hearts and home once again. An avid outdoorswoman, Linda loved hunting, especially skeet shooting and deer hunting, and she also enjoyed fishing. A woman of many talents, she spent time crocheting, sewing, and creating ceramics, and she was known to also enjoy a competitive night of bowling. Linda was also a devoted football fan, passionately cheering for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. Fiercely independent and known for her sassy, no-nonsense personality, Linda brought humor, strength, and love to every aspect of her life.
Above all, Linda cherished her family. She is survived by her children, Mark Hill and Kassie Pierce, adopted sons, Michael and Stas Stafford, her son-in-law Michael Pierce, and her grandchildren Tara Hendricks, Dayton Hill, Sloane Wellner, and Lee Neering. She is also survived by her brother Neil Dishman, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford; her parents, Harvey and Maudie Dishman; and her brothers, Russel Dishman, Jim Dishman, and Dale “Bud” Dishman.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on September 17, 2025, at 10 AM, at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey.
Flowers may be sent to Lockstone Funeral Home at 201 N. Custer in Weatherford, OK 73096.
Linda’s life was a testament to resilience, adventure, and love. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of strength and inspiration that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
