1957 Ed Dwight ukończył studia z wyróżnieniem , uzyskując tytuł licencjata w dziedzinie inżynierii lotniczej.

1953-1966 służył w Siłach Powietrznych USA.

Na początku lat 60. brał udział w procesie selekcji astronautów.

Latał na najbardziej zaawansowanych samolotach swojej epoki i wylatał ponad 9000 godzin.

Nigdy nie został oficjalnie powiadomiony, że nie uczestniczy już w programie kosmicznym, ale na rozkaz prezydenta Johnsona Dwight został przeniesiony z programu szkolenia astronautów.

Głównym powodem miało być to, że był Murzynem.

1977 uzyskał tytuł magistra sztuki w dziedzinie rzeźby na Uniwersytecie w Denver.

Większość jego dzieł koncentruje się na Czarnych i działaczach na rzecz praw obywatelskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tematów niewolnictwa, emancypacji.

Dwight projektował pomniki i rzeźby na całym świecie.

19.05.2024 odbył lot suborbitalny na pokładzie New Shepard NS-25.

In September of that year, four months after the United States sent its first astronaut into space, Murrow wrote to NASA administrator James Webb: “Why don’t we put the first non-white man in space? If your boys were to enroll and train a qualified Negro and then fly him in whatever vehicle is available, we could retell our whole space effort to the whole non-white world, which is most of it.” (...)

As Dwight continued through the training, he applied to be a NASA astronaut and was one of 26 people recommended by the Air Force, according to Logsdon. In total, 136 people applied for NASA’s Astronaut Group 3, and 14 were selected in October 1963. Dwight was not one of them.

 hosted Ed last year for the Aim Higher Space2inspire event during Black History Month. We were so fortunate to have both the Blue Origin Capsule and @AstroSaraSabry at the event and we had a special moment with Ed in the capsule. Many people were already working to get Ed to space with Blue Origin and today his dream was finally realized. Love seeing how Blue Origin is actively creating a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive space (J.ED.I. Space) for all of humanity. Well done!

Joyeux anniversaire (91) à Ed Dwight, actuellement la personne la plus âgée à être allée dans l'espace (il y a quelques mois cette année, en mai dernier, avec NS-25)

Ed Dwight faillit devenir le premier astronaute afro-américain dès 1963.
Mais, hélas, il n'a jamais pu aller dans l'espace...
Voici son histoire... celle d'un candidat-astronaute a qui on a coupé les ailes, mais aussi d'un artiste de très grand talent.
