Meet Ed Dwight, a former United States Air Force Captain who was selected by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 as the nation’s first Black astronaut candidate. Watch to learn more about Ed Dwight’s incredible life story. #NS25
Congratulations Ed Dwight! I hope that you enjoyed your Space! #Justice
“Absolutely terrific” is how 90-year-old Ed Dwight describes his flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. #NS25 (Image credit: Blue Origin)
Congratulations Astronaut Ed Dwight!! 👨🏾🚀🚀🌎Ed Dwight became an astronaut today!! After 60 years the wait is finally over thanks to @blueorigin and @SpaceHumanity. Both me and Ed graduated from ASU so @ASU 365 Community Union and @asumixcenter hosted Ed last year for the Aim Higher Space2inspire event during Black History Month. We were so fortunate to have both the Blue Origin Capsule and @AstroSaraSabry at the event and we had a special moment with Ed in the capsule. Many people were already working to get Ed to space with Blue Origin and today his dream was finally realized. Love seeing how Blue Origin is actively creating a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive space (J.ED.I. Space) for all of humanity. Well done!
Ed Dwight was our nation's first Black astronaut candidate but only recently achieved his dream of spaceflight at the age of 90.As Chair of the National Space Council, I am celebrating Black Space Week by uplifting Ed's story and the achievements of Black Americans in space.
I’ve met him twice and yet @WilliamShatner blocked me for pointing out, accurately, that he wore the first toupee in Space. In a way that should be considered an honour.
