Astronautka jest na 2-tygodniowym szkoleniu w Montrealu z zakresu operacji robotycznych.
Zapoznaje się z obsługą Canadarm2 (Space Station Remote Manipulator - SSRMS).
Ramię robota ma 7 przegubów obrotowych i można nim sterować ręcznie za pomocą 2 kontrolerów ręcznych.
Dają one kontrolę nad 6 stopniami swobody ładunku przymocowanego do jego końcowego efektora blokującego.

{Montreal 🇨🇦} Training Weeks 28-29

Transition from Houston / 20°C (68°F) / wearing T-shirts, to Montreal / -10°C (14°F) / 20cm of snow ❄ / wearing a big jacket! Haha!

I’m in Canada 🇨🇦 for a 2-week training in robotic operations. I’m learning to operate the Canadarm2, or Space Station Remote Manipulator (SSRMS), which is used to move payloads & astronauts. This robotic arm has 7 pivot joints and can be operated manually using 2 hand controllers; they give us control over the 6 degrees of freedom of the payload attached to its latching end effector. Of course, we learn to handle both nominal and off-nominal situations!

🦥  “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast”, meaning that taking your time is the best way to do your job right, on your 1st try! The cosmic catch (grappling a cargo vehicle to berth it to the Station) is definitely one of those times to get each action right and focus on the task! (Hence the placard on the simulator room door…)

I can definitely say that I love Canada & robotics!

🇨🇦 The @csa_asc has a cutting-edge expertise in robotic arms and the teaching skills of the instructors are amazing. 🙏 Thanks to the teams for sharing their knowledge and passion for robotics!
Learning the basics of Canadarm2 operations was a wonderful experience. Future training on robotics operations will happen later in Houston… going one level deeper for nominal and contingency ops.

😅 I’ve been super busy... which means I’m super late in sharing updates with you. Thanks in advance for your understanding! 🙏

🧑‍🚀 We continued building on the Canadarm MRO skills we developed in Canada 🇨🇦. The robotics training was more operational this time, aimed at providing a direct support during EVAs. For instance, we learned how to use the robotic arm to rescue and assist a crew member, ensuring them a quick return to the airlock in case of an emergency.

🚀 I also did many simulation sessions in our incredible full scale ISS mockup. As you can see in the picture, it takes a team of instructors in the control room to support each session! Many thanks to all – I really enjoy learning with you!

Operacje robotyczne, sesje symulacyjne...
Próbowanie niektórych potraw znajdujących  znajdujących się w menu.
Większość potraw jest liofilizowana lub termostabilizowana.
Ich nawodnienie lub podgrzanie zajmuje tylko kilka minut, zanim będą gotowe do spożycia!
Zaplanowano kilka sesji, aby zapoznać się z różnymi opcjami — jest ich ponad 200!

{Houston 🇺🇸} Training Week 32

🧑‍🚀 Training continues: robotic operations, simulation sessions... and everything that makes up the exciting daily life 🤩 of a mission-assigned astronaut!

🥦 The most unique experience this week was definitely tasting some of the foods that are on the menu in space. Most foods are either freeze-dried or thermostabilized. It only takes a few minutes to rehydrate or heat them up before they’re ready to eat!

Several sessions are scheduled to familiarize ourselves with the different options—there are more than 200! It was also a great opportunity to learn how the teams ensure that everyone’s nutritional needs are met throughout a long-duration mission.

✍️ Chroniques d'astronaute - Le pouvoir des petites mains👐. [NL👇]

Je reçois régulièrement des dessins inspirés par ce que j'ai la chance de vivre : ils parlent de rêves, d'étoiles, de fusées, parfois de peurs. Ces dessins me touchent et j’aime les parcourir car ils me rappellent mes rêves d’enfant, ces rêves colorés aux traits nets qui m’ont sans doute amené ici.

Aujourd’hui le rêve est devenu réalité comme on dit, et la réalité c’est aussi les choses qu’on ne dessine pas : un horaire chargé, une vie loin de ma famille et des examens toutes les semaines. Mais la couleur est toujours là, intense, et j’aime à penser qu'au-delà de mes aspirations, c’est aussi celles de toutes ces petites mains qui dessinent qui me portent. Celles des enfants qui courent, celles des petits et des grands qui regardent le ciel et pour qui l’horizon n’est pas une ligne de fin ou de début, mais une histoire à écrire.

Bref, je m'emballe, je m'emballe 🙂, mais vous l’aurez compris, n'hésitez pas à me faire parvenir vos dessins ou attentions, ils recevront l’attention qu’ils méritent.

La prise en main des appareils photo qui sont à bord de l’ISS est une partie importante de notre entraînement. En effet, nous en avons besoin pour documenter les résultats d’expériences scientifiques, pour visualiser d’éventuels problèmes et, bien sûr, pour partager la vue de la Terre depuis la Cupola 🌍 🙃 !

📸 Cette semaine à Houston, j’ai eu mon premier cours pratique de photographie avec des Nikon Z9, les mêmes que ceux qui nous attendent dans l’espace. Nous avons travaillé les réglages d’exposition et de contraste ainsi que l’utilisation du flash qui sont cruciaux à maîtriser à l’intérieur des modules.

Je devais avoir un autre cours en extérieur mais il a été reporté à la semaine prochaine car les conditions météo étaient trop nuageuses 😶‍🌫️, et étaient donc trop éloignées des conditions de photo depuis l’ISS où, en journée, le soleil est toujours bien présent☀️.
