Sentinel-1D, satelita konstelacji Copernicus, ma zastąpić prawie 11-letniego Sentinela-1A.
Jest czwartym satelitą serii Sentinel-1, a zarazem ostatnim z pierwszej generacji, który będzie dokonywał obserwacji radarowych.

Sentinel-1D został wyposażony w radar z syntetyczną aperturą (SAR) w paśmie C, który umożliwia wykonywanie zdjęć powierzchni Ziemi w wysokiej rozdzielczości.
Ten wydajny system radarowy działa w kilku trybach, w tym w szerokim paśmie i wysokiej rozdzielczości, dostarczając szczegółowych danych o osiadaniu lądu, ruchach lodu i warunkach oceanicznych.

Tak jak Sentinel-1C, Sentinel-1D również będzie przenosił Automatyczny System Identyfikacji (AIS Automatic Identification System), czyli nowy instrument zaprojektowany w celu uzupełnienia danych z radarów SAR na potrzeby monitorowania ruchu statków na morzu.

01.09. 2025 satelita opuścił zakłady firmy w Cannes.

11.09.2025 Sentinel-1D, dotarł na lotnisko im. Félixa Eboué, główne lotnisko Gujany Francuskiej.

Misja, oznaczona jako VA265, będzie trzecim komercyjnym lotem Ariane 6.
Satelita zostanie umieszczony na orbicie heliosynchronicznej (SSO) h= ok. 693 km.
Separacja ładunku ma nastąpić ok.34 minuty po starcie.

Satelita został zbudowany przez Thales Alenia Space, spółkę joint venture Thales (67%) i Leonardo (33%).
Sentinel-1D jest siódmym satelitą Sentinel wystrzelonym przez Arianespace oraz 109. satelitą zbudowanym przez Thales Alenia, który zostanie umieszczony na orbicie przez tę firmę.

(...) The Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission is based on a constellation of two identical satellites flying in the same orbit but 180° apart, to optimise global coverage and data delivery for Copernicus.

Sentinel-1A was the first satellite in the series, launched in April 2014, followed by the launch of Sentinel-1B in 2016. The Sentinel-1B mission came to an end in August 2022 after experiencing a technical fault that rendered it unable to acquire data. We just got word from our team at the launch site that all tests on the spacecraft are going well.

 Italy has been performing quite a few check ups:
✅ pressurisation and leak check
✅SAR health check.
Moreover, the Antenna assemblies part of the Automatic Identification System  instrument, which were transported to the launch site in pairs in separate containers, have also been integrated onto the spacecraft 📡

Sentinel1D po dotarciu na kosmodrom statkiem statkiem, został rozpakowany i jest przygotowywany do startu.

Satelita jest wyposażony w odbiornik współpracujący z konstelacją satelitarną Galileo.
Sentinel-1D może także nawigować samodzielnie w sytuacji niedostępności sygnałów GPS.

Każdy satelita Sentinel-1 porusza się w 12-dniowym cyklu, czyli co 12 dni przelatuje tą sama trajektorią nad Ziemią
Efektywny czas rewizyty jest znacznie krótszy, ponieważ radar ma szeroki zakres i zbiera dane zarówno podczas przelotów wstępujących, jak i zstępujących.
W przypadku pojedynczego satelity czas rewizyty wynosi zazwyczaj około trzech dni na równiku, około dwóch dni nad Europą i mniej niż jeden dzień w Arktyce.
W konfiguracji dwóch satelitów konstelacja osiąga sześciodniowy cykl rewizytacji i czas rewizyt wynoszący około jednego dnia w większości regionów, a nawet krótszy na wyższych szerokościach geograficznych.

Sentinel-1D dołączy do Sentinela-1C, który został wystrzelony w 12.2024.

This isn’t an image that you see very often… but it tells you a lot.
The inside of #Ariane6, opened up in a cutaway drawing, reveals its precisely organised components:

👉 Double-walled cryogenic fuel tanks
👉 A Vulcain 2.1 engine underneath
👉 Avionic systems throughout the rocket
👉 An upper  stage with an engine that’s reignitable in orbit

Each component has been designed to optimise space, spread out mass, and guarantee successful and reliable in-flight performance..

Pod koniec zeszłego tygodnia Sentinel-1D został zamknięty w owiewce RN Ariane 6.
Niebieskie płytki wewnątrz osłony działają jak ochrona akustyczna, tłumiąc hałas powstający podczas startu.

The @CopernicusEU Sentinel-1D satellite is now safe and cozy inside Ariane 6's fairing! 🧸 
The blue tiles inside the fairing work as acoustic protection dampening the noise created during launch.
Liftoff is scheduled for 4 November at 22:02 CET (21:02 GMT, 18:02 Kourou time).
