Have you seen any shooting stars lately? We’re in the midst of the Lyrid Meteor shower, and I was lucky enough to photograph some from the @Space_Station cupola. The Lyrids are an annual event best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere by looking toward the constellation Lyra in the east, peaking on April 21-22 this year. So, keep your eyes to the sky, and you just might see us on the ISS pass by as well!

In addition to science, cargo vehicles also may deliver fresh fruit and vegetables to the @Space_Station. This is always a welcome change from our dehydrated and preserved food and is a huge morale boost, bringing smiles all around. Thank you to all those involved in this shipment on the @northropgrumman Cygnus NG-24!

Progress MS-34 cargo spacecraft successfully docks with ISS
28 Apr, 03:25

The spacecraft carries about 2.5 tons of cargo

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. The Progress MS-34 cargo spacecraft, which was launched from the Baikonur spaceport on April 26, has docked with the Zvezda module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS), Roscosmos said.

The launch of a Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Progress MS-34 cargo spacecraft took place successfully at 1:22 a.m. Moscow time on April 26 (10:22 p.m. GMT on April 25) from the Baikonur spaceport and placed the spacecraft into orbit nine minutes later.

As part of the 95th resupply mission to the International Space Station, the spacecraft carries about 2.5 tons of cargo, including 700 kilograms of fuel for the station, 420 kilograms of drinking water, and 50 kilograms of oxygen to replenish the ISS atmosphere. In addition, the spacecraft will deliver 1,348 kilograms of dry cargo for the ISS-74 crew and station systems, as well as a new Orlan-ISS No. 8 EVA spacesuit.

The equipment and consumables also include a VR headset and hardware for the Virtual, Neuroimmunity, Correction, Biodegradation, and Separation experiments.

The Progress MS is a Russian automatic spacecraft designed to service orbital stations, deliver various cargo to the International Space Station (fuel, scientific equipment, oxygen, potable water, food and other supplies) and adjust its orbit.

On April 27th at about 10:40 PM GMT, I was in the @Space_Station Cupola and saw something really neat.  I was scanning the sky to try to catch a glimpse of the approaching Progress MS-34 vehicle bringing new supplies. Just as we were passing over West Africa, I saw a bright object directly below us, streaking through the upper atmosphere. I saw its tail grow and then split apart into a shower of smaller pieces. I think it must have been some piece of orbital debris or a satellite breaking up as it entered the atmosphere. It was quite a light show!
