ACQUISITION OF SIGNAL CONFIRMED! 🎉🛰️
#BepiColombo telemetry shows the Mercury Transfer Module has successfully separated from the spacecraft stack! ✅
First step of Mercury arrival phase - complete! 👏
Next stop: Mercury orbit insertion for MPO and Mio in November!

From Earth to Mercury: another major milestone for #BepiColombo
Today’s successful separation, executed more than 200 million km from Earth is a testament to years of preparation and extraordinary precision by teams across Europe.
It reflects what @esa and Europe can achieve when scientific ambition meets technological excellence.
Congratulations to everyone who made this possible.
The journey is not over. The discoveries are only beginning.

8 years. 9 planetary flybys. Billions of kilometres. Today, space probe #BepiColombo begins its arrival sequence at Mercury, the Solar system's least explored inner planet.
The Mercury Transfer Module (MTM), has officially completed its mission and detached, clearing the path for the two science modules to continue their trek toward Mercury.
Designed and built by Airbus, the MTM powered @esa MPO and @JAXA_en Mio orbiters across the inner Solar System. The transfer module separation is a crucial manoeuvre that will allow MPO and Mio to move forward together into Mercury’s orbit.

https://x.com/AirbusSpace/status/2095513441398096232At destination and after the MTM release, the MPO and Mio still join together and are captured by Mercury's gravity. MPO's thrusters guide Mio into its high elliptical orbit for deployment. Once Mio separates, MPO ejects the MOSIF sunshield and descends into its own lower orbit.

parametrach: peryhermion = 674 km, apohermion =178 000 km, i = ok. 60 h.

A happy goodbye is still a goodbye 🥹
Mission accomplished, MTM! 🫡 Thank you for the ride!
Thanks to its solar-powered electric thrusters, MTM carried @ESA's Bepi & @JAXA_en 's Mio to Mercury on the power equivalent of 250 ants! 🐜🐜🐜

A small push for @esa & @JAXA_en #BepiColombo, a giant leap towards #Mercury! 🛰️➡️🌑
Without MTM, the Mercury Planetary Orbiter is preparing for orbit insertion.
Yesterday's successful thruster burn tested the propulsion system & delivered a planned 11.4 m/s trajectory correction ✅
