Dziś 9 stycznia 2026 japońska agencja kosmiczna JAXA poinformowała o wyznaczeniu nowego astronauty Makoto Suwa,
który odbędzie długotrwałą misję na pokładzie ISS w roku 2027.

JAXA has just announced their next crewman on the ISS will be Makoto Suwa who joined the corps in 2023. He is expected to fly a long duration mission in mid-2027. Possibly USCV-14 either on a Dragon or the first fully crewed Starliner.

After 27 years of service, NASA astronaut Suni Williams retired from the agency, effective Dec. 27, 2025. Williams completed three missions aboard the International Space Station, setting numerous human spaceflight records throughout her career.

“Suni Williams has been a trailblazer in human spaceflight, shaping the future of exploration through her leadership aboard the space station and paving the way for commercial missions to low Earth orbit,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. “Her work advancing science and technology has laid the foundation for Artemis missions to the Moon and advancing toward Mars, and her extraordinary achievements will continue to inspire generations to dream big and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement, and thank you for your service to NASA and our nation.”

Williams logged 608 days in space — second on the list of cumulative time in space by a NASA astronaut. She ranks sixth on the list of longest single spaceflight by an American, tied with NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore, both logging 286 days during NASA’s Boeing Starliner and SpaceX Crew-9 missions. Williams also completed nine spacewalks, totaling 62 hours and 6 minutes, ranking as the most spacewalk time by a woman and fourth-most on the all-time cumulative spacewalk duration list. She also was the first person to run a marathon in space.

“Over the course of Suni’s impressive career trajectory, she has been a pioneering leader,” said Vanessa Wyche, director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. “From her indelible contributions and achievements to the space station, to her groundbreaking test flight role during the Boeing Starliner mission, her exceptional dedication to the mission will inspire the future generations of explorers.”

Williams launched for the first time aboard space shuttle Discovery with STS-116 in December 2006 and returned aboard space shuttle Atlantis with the STS-117 crew. She served as a flight engineer for Expeditions 14/15 and completed a then-record-breaking four spacewalks during the mission.

In 2012, Williams launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan for a 127-day mission as a member of Expedition 32/33. She also served as space station commander for Expedition 33. Williams performed three spacewalks during the mission to repair a leak on a station radiator and replace a component that gets power from the station’s solar arrays to its systems.

Most recently, Williams and Wilmore launched aboard the Starliner spacecraft in June 2024 as part of NASA’s Boeing Crew Flight Test mission. She and Wilmore went on to join Expedition 71/72, and Williams again took command of the space station for Expedition 72. She completed two spacewalks on the mission and returned to Earth in March 2025, as part of the agency’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission.

“Suni is incredibly sharp, and an all-around great friend and colleague,” said Scott Tingle, chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA Johnson. “She’s inspired so many people, including myself and other astronauts in the corps. We’re all going to miss her greatly and wish her nothing but the best.”

Beyond her spaceflight experience, Williams held numerous roles throughout her NASA career. In 2002, she served as a NEEMO (NASA Extreme Environments Mission Operations) crew member, spending nine days living and working in an underwater habitat. After her first flight, she served as deputy chief of NASA’s Astronaut Office. She later was the director of Operations in Star City, Russia, following her second mission to the space station. Most recently, she helped establish a helicopter training platform to prepare astronauts for future Moon landings.

The Needham, Massachusetts, native holds a bachelor’s degree in physical science from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree in engineering management from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. A retired U.S. Navy captain, Williams is an accomplished helicopter and fixed-wing pilot, having logged more than 4,000 flight hours in 40 different aircraft.

“Anyone who knows me knows that space is my absolute favorite place to be,” said Williams. “It’s been an incredible honor to have served in the Astronaut Office and have had the opportunity to fly in space three times. I had an amazing 27-year career at NASA, and that is mainly because of all the wonderful love and support I’ve received from my colleagues. The International Space Station, the people, the engineering, and the science are truly awe-inspiring and have made the next steps of exploration to the Moon and Mars possible. I hope the foundation we set has made these bold steps a little easier. I am super excited for NASA and its partner agencies as we take these next steps, and I can’t wait to watch the agency make history.”

• wyższe wykształcenie w dziedzinie nauk ścisłych, przyrodniczych lub medycznych
• muszą mieć średnią ocen co najmniej 4 oraz co najmniej trzy lata doświadczenia zawodowego w wybranej dziedzinie.
• podczas procesu selekcji sprawdzane będą umiejętności kandydatów w zakresie nauki technologii kosmicznych, wiedza z zakresu fizyki i matematyki oraz znajomość jednego z europejskich języków obcych (angielskiego, włoskiego, hiszpańskiego, niemieckiego lub francuskiego) na poziomie programu studiów spoza głównego nurtu uniwersyteckiego.
• kandydaci zostaną sprawdzeni pod kątem umiejętności pisania i mówienia, a także podstawowej wiedzy z zakresu historii kosmonautyki i kultury światowej.
• kandydaci na kosmonautów muszą być wolni od chorób przewlekłych i w dobrej kondycji fizycznej. Maksymalny wzrost do selekcji to 190 cm, a waga 90 kg. Minimalny wzrost to 150 cm, a waga 50 kg. Rozmiar stopy nie może przekraczać rozmiaru 46.

Proces selekcji będzie przebiegał dwuetapowo. W przypadku nieobecności kandydaci muszą przygotować i złożyć wymagany zestaw dokumentów do weryfikacji.

Po sprawdzeniu, czy dokumenty spełniają wymagania, specjaliści podejmą decyzję o dopuszczeniu do kolejnego etapu, który odbędzie się osobiście. Osoby, które nie przejdą etapu zdalnego, zostaną o tym powiadomione. Pozostali kandydaci zostaną zaproszeni do udziału w badaniu kwalifikacyjnym sprawdzającym ich umiejętności zawodowe, predyspozycje psychologiczne, sprawność fizyczną i stan zdrowia.

Kandydaci z tatuażami nie zostaną zakwalifikowani do dalszej selekcji. Wyjątkiem jest tatuaż z oznaczeniem grupy krwi lub literą o średnicy do trzech centymetrów. Jednak te tatuaże również będą musiały zostać usunięte, jeśli proces selekcji zakończy się sukcesem.

Pakistan says two astronaut candidates pass China screening for space mission

Final selection for Chinese space station flight will take place after six-month training
ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistani astronaut candidates have successfully completed advanced medical, psychological and aptitude assessments in China for a human spaceflight mission, an official statement said on Saturday, bringing the country closer to sending on of them aboard a Chinese space station later this year.

The bilateral arrangement follows the signing of the Astronaut Cooperation Agreement between the two countries in February last year, which aimed to enable Pakistan’s participation in space-based activities.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had selected potential candidates who underwent advanced assessments at the Astronauts Center of China (ACC) and will now proceed to the next phase of training.

“The shortlisted candidates will undertake advanced astronaut training for six months at ACC,” the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.

“Upon completion of training, one candidate will be selected for a spaceflight mission aboard the Chinese Space Station (CSS) in October / November 2026,” it added.

The program is part of Pakistan’s broader push to enter human spaceflight through cooperation with China, as Beijing expands international participation in its Tiangong space station amid growing competition in space exploration.

China has increasingly opened its space station to international collaboration.

Pakistan and China have also worked together in the past on satellite launches and lunar exploration projects.

The ISPR described the initiative as a “landmark” step reflecting strong Chinese support, saying Beijing had “selected Pakistan as the first foreign partner in its astronaut program.”

Dr Adrianos Golemis becomes first Greek selected for ESA astronaut training

Dr Adrianos Golemis has been chosen to join the European Space Agency’s (ESA) astronaut training programme following a highly competitive selection process involving more than 22,000 applicants. His participation opens the possibility of a Greek astronaut taking part in a future space mission for the first time, according to euronews.com

Golemis has already begun training at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany. His selection marks a significant milestone for Greece, a country that has historically had limited involvement in human spaceflight, signalling a shift toward greater participation in the sector.

Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou described the achievement as a source of national inspiration, particularly for younger scientists. He noted that Greece’s role in space once seemed distant, but recent investments in microsatellites and nanosatellites demonstrate growing ambition. The country’s small satellite fleet is expected to be largely completed in the coming months.

ESA has also been working to broaden its astronaut corps beyond its traditionally dominant member states, creating more opportunities for countries like Greece.

Papastergiou emphasised that space investment extends beyond scientific advancement, offering practical benefits for everyday life. Satellite data are already improving weather forecasting, disaster response, wildfire management and civil protection.

Additionally, space technologies support agriculture, including monitoring production and managing subsidies, while helping protect natural resources such as water. They are also increasingly vital in telecommunications, cybersecurity and defence.

The government’s strategy aims to build a strong ecosystem of space applications that will drive innovation, strengthen the economy and enhance decision-making across the public sector.

Z poczucia „samozwańczo” kronikarskiego obowiązku chciałem w tym wątku wspomnieć, że 6 marca została zaktualizowana strona NASA „Management Astronauts”, co oznacza że niknie szansa na wejście w skład PRZYSZYŁYCH ZAŁÓG dwóch astronautów:

1) Kenneth D. BOWERSOX – odszedł z NASA mając 69 lat. Był weteranem pięciu lotów Space Shuttle i wieloletnim szefem dyrektoriatu misji załogowych. Zapowiedział swoje odejście z dniem 6 marca, co jest łączone z raportem krytycznym wobec sposobu przeprowadzenia testowego lotu Starlinera.

2) Richard R. ARNOLD - odszedł z NASA mając 62 lata. Był uczestnikiem dwóch lotów (jednego Space Shuttle’m i jednego Sojuzem). Odszedł bez ogłoszenia tego w komunikatach prasowych, w jego biogramie (po przeniesieniu do kategorii „Former Astronauts”) zamieszono informację, że odszedł w 2025.

Zatem liczba astronautów pracujących na stanowiskach kierowniczych w NASA spadła do 9.

Wg moich obliczeń po odejściu tej dwójki astronautów menadżerów wśród tej grupy byłych astronautów jest dokładnie 10 osób w tym 2 kobiety: Serena Maria Auñón-Chancellor i Yvonne Darlene Cagle.
