Dansk astronaut om rumeventyr: Opstigning var noget anderledes end forventet

Andreas Mogensen havde forventet at kunne mærke end del mere kraft, da han blev sendt ud i rummet, fortalte han efter premieren på Apollo-11, der handler om månelandingen i 1969.

Det er i år 50 år siden, at den amerikanske astronaut Neil Armstrong var det første menneske til at gå på månen.

I den anledning gæstede den danske astronaut Andreas Mogensen biografen Cinemaxx i København den 27. juni for at se filmen Apollo-11, som netop handler om månelandingen i 1969.

Og Andreas Mogensen svarede efterfølgende på tilskuernes spørgsmål om sine oplevelser i rummet og rumfart dengang og nu. (...)

Niedługo powinniśmy usłyszeć oficjalnie o jego przydziale do kolejnego lotu. Sądzę, że będzie to dłuższa wyprawa.  Obecnie ESA nie ma za dużo czynnych astronautów.

Den europæiske rumorganisation ESA annoncerede den 24. marts 2022, at Andreas Mogensen skal på sin anden mission til den internationale rumstation, ISS. Missionen er planlagt til at vare seks måneder med en opsendelse i juli 2023 med SpaceX 7 Crew Dragon fra Kennedy Space Center. Andreas Mogensen bliver 2. styrmand på flyvningen og del af en international besætning på fire.

Commanding role for Andreas in space

Astronauta ESA Andreas Mogensen będzie dowódcą Międzynarodowej Stacji Kosmicznej (ISS) podczas swojej misji Huginn, stając się tym samym szóstym europejskim astronautą pełniącym tę rolę.

Astronauta ESA Andreas Mogensen poleci na Stację Kosmiczną jako członek załogi 7, pilotując Crew Dragon firmy SpaceX i zostanie dowódcą załogi Międzynarodowej Stacji Kosmicznej podczas Ekspedycji 70.

Andreas zostałby najdłużej pełniącym służbę dowódczą europejskim astronautą na ISS po przybyciu w sierpniu. Będzie dowódcą ziemskiej placówki na orbicie przez pięć miesięcy, aż do powrotu do domu na początku 2024 roku. Andreas przejmie obowiązki od astronauty Roskosmosu Siergieja Prokopjewa, który dowodzi od 12 października 2022 roku, a który przejął rolę dowódcy od astronautki ESA Samanthy Cristoforetti .

With the launch of the SpaceX Crew-6 mission this morning, we're now getting close to a historic milestone for @ESA and the Crew Dragon vehicle. Crew-7 will be piloted by ESA astronaut @Astro_Andreas who will be the first non-American to serve as a pilot of a Crew Dragon.

The Crew-7 mission is expected to lift off in August this year. Mogensen will be the fourth ESA astronaut to fly aboard the spacecraft following @Thom_astro (Crew-2), @astro_matthias (Crew-3), and @AstroSamantha (Crew-4).

Uddannelses- og forskningsminister Christina Egelund er rejst til USA for at overvære opsendelsen af Andreas Mogensen til ISS. I forbindelse med besøget vil ministeren underskrive to aftaler om forskningsaktiviteter og undervisningsaktiviteter i forbindelse med rumrejsen.

Når den danske astronaut Andreas Mogensen ankommer til den internationale rumstation ISS, kan han roligt trække i arbejdstøjet med det samme. Her skal han nemlig udføre over 30 europæiske eksperimenter og forsøg, herunder 10 danske, under sit halvt år lange ophold på stationen.

Today is my birthday and I get to celebrate it in space!
It is a different kind of birthday for me this year because I am away from my family. Luckily, I have great crew up here who celebrated it with me.
In Denmark, we celebrate our birthday with our flag - it becomes more than the Danish flag "Dannebrog" for the day. It becomes a birthday flag which symbolises happiness, celebration, and smiles.
We also have a saying that if the Sun shines on your birthday it means you have been good this year - and the Sun is always shining in space 😉

Today is World Toilet day, which celebrate and highlights the throne that we all sit on every day. And if you have ever wondered how going to the toilet works on the International @Space_Station, I have made a little video explaining the procedure that is needed to go number 1 and 2 on the toilet up here.
Having a functioning toilet in space reminds me that not all are fortunate enough in the world to have access to such a luxury or even clean water. One of the upcoming technology demonstrations I will do is with Aquamembrane-3 from which will test an updated version of the same technology that I tested on my first mission in 2015. By using proteins in the membrane, it creates clean water from waste water and could hopefully find use in areas on Earth where clean water is scarce.

Today, I will be speaking with two Nobel Prize laureates from 2023, Ferenc Krausz and Moungi Bawendi, who are currently in Stockholm, Sweden. They have been awarded prizes in the fields of physics and chemistry, respectively, for their groundbreaking work with superfast lasers used to investigate electrons (Ferenc) and for the development of quantum dots (Moungi), which can be found in TVs today and may contribute to faster electronics in the future. I hope we'll have the opportunity to geek out a bit and discuss exciting science, both up here and on Earth.
For this call, I'm bringing along a Nobel Prize awarded to the Danish physicist Niels Bohr 101 years ago for his work on the structure of the atom. It's a great honor to be able to have it on my Huginn mission, and I would like to thank the Museum of National History in Denmark for making it possible for me to bring a piece of history into space.

Micrometeorites and space debris, while creating beautiful shooting stars upon re-entry into Earth's atmosphere, pose a genuine threat to the @Space_Station and satellites. Recently, a micrometeorite struck the Nauka science module's external radiator, causing a leak of 72 litres of coolant and as a result, cancelled our spacewalk due to concerns about spacesuit contamination from the coolant. My spacewalk is tentatively planned for January or February next year.

I recently saw the destructive power of impacts when photographing the space station's robotic arm. It looks quite dramatic! The hole was made in 2021, where a 1 mm object, traveling at over 25,000 km/h relative to the Space Station hit the robotic arm. Fortunately, no critical components were damaged.

If such an impact hits a pressurized module, depressurization could occur. Most of the modules have shielding against smaller impacts, but it is not strong enough to withstand impacts against larger ones. This is why we repeatedly practice emergency scenarios, including depressurization.

All good things come to an end. @astro_marcus and the Axiom-3 crew is going home today. Their return have been delayed for several days due to bad weather at the landing site, but I am sure Marcus didn't mind a few extra days in space
It has been great having Marcus and the Axiom-3 crew up here, where they have been busy with science and technology demonstrations - we also enjoyed some time together in the evenings. Huginn and Muninn flew together for over 2 weeks and what an adventure!

Two Scandinavians in space!
@astro_marcus and I have been together for a week and a half and it has been good having a fellow Scandinavian onboard - even if he speaks Swedish 😁 Jokes aside, Marcus has been busy and working hard to maximise the science and educational output of his Muninn mission, working on several experiments every day, while adapting to living on the Space Station.
One of the great designers at @esa came up with a visual for our two mission names, Huginn and Muninn: It shows the two ravens side by side, with both of our rune stars symbolising "Safe travels" and "Protection" below it. At the top is Scandinavia and in the bottom is a viking ship with the bow going up the middle.
Soon Marcus and the Axiom-3 crew will return to Earth after two weeks in space and I know Marcus will be a big experience richer when he lands.

On the weekends, we have time off and and while I like to call my friends and family or sit in the Cupola and take pictures of Earth, I sometimes like to play around a bit. I recorded this video a few weeks ago and finally got around to sharing it with you.
The way a liquid, in this case orange juice, moves around on the Space Station is fascinating, rippling when I blow on it and how sticks to me as I drink it.

20.09.2025 w kinie Atlântica w Vila do Porto na Azorach miała miejsce przedpremiera filmu „The Space Between Us”, dokumentu wyreżyserowanego przez Miguela Gonçalvesa Mendesa, którego tematem jest pierwsza misja Andreasa Mogensena na ISS w 2015.

The Danish astronaut, who studied Aerospace Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, will answer questions from the public about his experience of living and working in space. Andreas Mogensen will also be in the Azores to accompany the parabolic flight of the 30 Astronaut for a Day finalists on September 21st.

2) Andreas Mogensen w wywiadzie zwrócił uwagę, że Europa w kosmosie zbyt długo grała w drużynie juniorskiej.
Można dodać, że "Columbus" nie wygląda na moduł zbyt intensywnie używany.

Der er nemlig flere årsager til, at rummet bør fylde en endnu mere i fremtiden, lyder det fra den danske astronaut.

- Rumfart kan gøre Europa langt stærkere både sikkerhedspolitisk og økonomisk. Derfor skal rumfart også spille en større rolle end det gør i dag, lyder et fra Andreas Mogensen. (...)
