O tym, jak zaczęła się droga Marcusa do znalezienia się w grupie astronautów ESA.
Applying to be an astronautPosted on Thursday June 29th, 2023 by Nadjejda
Marcus Wandt is the first in the new generation of European astronauts to jump on a commercial spaceflight with Axiom Space. This article is part of a series about the journey behind his first mission to space, Muninn.A conversation in the kitchenWhen Marcus returned home that evening, he had no idea what his wife was about to tell him. After an exciting week working as a test pilot at the Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab, she suddenly dropped a question while scrolling through her phone.
“Marcus, have you seen that they are recruiting astronauts?” she said. (...)

https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1720896208086987098Training for emergencies is challenging, but I enjoy the simulations where the whole #Ax3 crew needs to work efficiently together, and where you take control over a potentially dangerous scenario and bring it to a stable situation.
⚠️ In some emergency scenarios, the equipment required – such as masks and space suits – in combination with physically straining tasks, creates phases with limited oxygen available. This can be physically challenging if you’re not being careful.
3) Pomiary kości nóg
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1721947333028459003Last week researchers spent some time taking measurements of the bones in my legs at @DLR_en in Cologne, Germany.🦵
Astronauts lose up to 1% of their bone mass each month spent in space. Scientists of the Bone Health experiment will look at changes in my bone density after my spaceflight, and especially how long it takes after I have returned to Earth until my bones start to recover again.
This research has the potential to help patients on #Earth with osteoporosis.
4) Ważnym elementem badań astronautów jest pobieranie krwi przed, w trakcie i po locie kosmicznym.
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1722584763213443388It’s in my blood, and it’s all for #science. 💉🩸
Becoming an astronaut also means being a human test subject. To monitor how my body will be affected by weightlessness, blood draws are common practice before, during and after a spaceflight. The information scientists can extract from a single blood draw is vast.
Decades of research are helping mitigate the unwanted effects of space travel, protect astronauts for future exploration and improve the lives of patients on Earth.
5) Ćwiczenia w zakresie udzielania pierwszej pomocy
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1723797376995819587One thing that I find very stimulating with astronaut training is that it spans over a wide range of different topics. For example, what to do in the case of a medical emergency?
If something happened, you can’t get to a hospital, you don’t necessarily have a doctor in the crew, and you could be without communication to the ground. To be ready to properly take care of the situation, training starts in the classroom and then progresses into emergency scenario simulations.
An interesting implication of being in microgravity is that you can’t use your body weight to do chest compressions. A way to compensate for this is to either put your feet in the sealing or to put a strap around your back to keep you in place.
Also, since things will float away if you just leave them next to the patient, it is important to be organised, use prepositioned velcro, and put some folded duct tape next to you to have a quick temp-stow place.
6) Skanowanie mózgu
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1724793592961732678Living in space is very stressful for the brain. 🧠
As astronauts float in weightlessness, the brain interprets that the body is upside down and in constant fall. 👨🚀
I've been to @DLR_en medical research facility to scan my brain. The MRI images will show scientists my neural networks and will be compared with scans after my flight to the @Space_Station to see how connections might have changed.

https://twitter.com/esaspaceflight/status/1724786921258553576After a few months of intensive astronaut training, @astro_marcus feels that all the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. 👨🚀🧩🚀@esa project astronaut Marcus Wandt started intensive training for his #Muninn mission last June. He is set to fly to the International @Space_Station with @Axiom_Space in early 2024.

8 ) Szkolenie z załogą Crew-8
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1726654396233097237Some of my training at the European Astronaut Centre last week was together with my @nasaastronauts colleagues Michael Barratt, @Astro_Jeanette, @dominickmatthew and @astro_pettit. 🧑🏽🚀
All the discussions that sparked and the research and development possibilities identifed were highly stimulating!
Of course, the excellent @DLR breakfast after our blood draws helped keeping creativity at top level.
9) Trening w zakresie komunikacacji ISS-Ziemia
https://twitter.com/astro_marcus/status/1729178378991771755Station to ground! ☎️
There are many ways to communicate between the International @Space_Station and the ground. The equipment we generally use when communicating are either a panel called the Audio Terminal Unit (ATU), or laptops and tablets.
The ATU is used as a communication radio where you press and hold a button to transmit. 🔘
With laptops and tablets, we can use either IP telephone software or software for video conferencing over the internet, as any other computer on Earth. 💻
10) testowanie kosmicznego menu
🍽️ What's on the space menu?
Preparations for the #Muninn mission involve food tastings for the journey to, from and on the International @Space_Station.
What are YOU having for Christmas?
👨🍳 Once @Axiom_Space surprised the #Ax3 crew with a feast of 75 dishes, ranging from dried pears to delicious lamb stews.
The @NASA_Johnson space chefs then took over and treated us to a 72-course meal, with one of my favorites being Mexican chicken with tortillas. 😋
