Jared Isaacman @rookisaacman 5:31 PM · Dec 4, 2024
I am honored to receive President Trump’s @realDonaldTrump nomination to serve as the next Administrator of NASA.  Having been fortunate to see our amazing planet from space, I am passionate about America leading the most incredible adventure in human history.

On my last mission to space, my crew and I traveled farther from Earth than anyone in over half a century. I can confidently say this second space age has only just begun. Space holds unparalleled potential for breakthroughs in manufacturing, biotechnology, mining, and perhaps even pathways to new sources of energy. There will inevitably be a thriving space economy—one that will create opportunities for countless people to live and work in space. At NASA, we will passionately pursue these possibilities and usher in an era where humanity becomes a true spacefaring civilization.

I was born after the Moon landings; my children were born after the final space shuttle launch. With the support of President Trump, I can promise you this: We will never again lose our ability to journey to the stars and never settle for second place. We will inspire children, yours and mine, to look up and dream of what is possible. Americans will walk on the Moon and Mars and in doing so, we will make life better here on Earth.

It is the honor of a lifetime to serve in this role and to work alongside NASA’s extraordinary team to realize our shared dreams of exploration and discovery.

Grateful to serve,

Jared

I am confident Jared Isaacman will honor active contracts, private competition, & technology redundancy in Artemis.
The alternative is NASA being sued into gridlock. Recall that Blue Origin halted the entire HLS contract with a single suit.
And I don’t think Jared wants to spend half the valuable time of his term in court.
The commercial work will go on.
SLS and Orion though? Probably not.

‘Further and faster’: Why Trump’s NASA pick is sending shock waves through the space community
By Jackie Wattles, CNN Updated 10:44 AM EST, Fri December 6, 2024

Garrett Reisman, a former NASA astronaut who is now a SpaceX senior adviser, also applauded the selection, calling Isaacman an “excellent choice” who will “push NASA to go further and faster.”

If Isaacman’s nomination is confirmed by the US Senate, he will take over the agency at a crucial time as NASA gears up to attempt the first crewed moon landing in more than five decades under its Artemis program.

“The next 4 years at NASA are going to be real interesting!” said Reisman, who has also openly voiced his opposition to Trump.

John Kraus @johnkrausphotos
Congratulations to my friend @rookisaacman.

I have had the great opportunity to follow and photograph him during his two spaceflight campaigns over the last almost four years. That’s consisted of countless fighter jet flights, mountaineering, all types of extracurricular spaceflight training like scuba diving and skydiving, and more, all around the country and the world. And through it all, I’ve seen someone in Jared who is perfectly fit to lead NASA.

Through Inspiration4 and Polaris Dawn, I have seen a man deeply committed to furthering humanity’s progress in space, but also committed to addressing hardships here on Earth in raising over $250M for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and furthering Starlink connectivity efforts globally, as to improve telemedicine capabilities on a worldwide scale.

But most importantly and largely behind the scenes, I have seen firsthand all of the ways in which he is an honorable, humble, kind, empathetic, intelligent, and bold leader. I can earnestly say he is one of the kindest humans I’ve ever met.

At an event a few weeks ago, someone unexpectedly asked me what is the one key takeaway I’ve had from shadowing Jared these last few years. I had no clue what to say. It was all so obvious, but how could I sum that up succinctly? A business leader, pilot, astronaut, etc — what do you even say?

After a a bit of thinking, I simply said, “he’s measured.”

He does not let the wins get to his head, and is not broken by the lows. He responds, not reacts. He’s incredible at empowering others to do what they do best, while providing the support and leadership to ensure all vectors are aligned toward the common goal.

Steadfast, consistent, and measured — yet bold — leadership is exactly what NASA needs at this moment, and I can’t wait to see the direction NASA takes under his leadership.

The great adventure is just beginning. To the Moon and Mars. Congrats Rook.

Beyond Polaris Dawn: Alum and Astronaut Jared Isaacman Explores Future of Space
Sarah Barczyk / Nov 14, 2024, 8:15 AM

Jared Isaacman — Embry‑Riddle alumnus and commander of the Polaris Dawn Mission — recently made history when he led the first-ever all-civilian spacewalk. Here, Isaacman can be seen aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule during the five-day space mission.

Embry‑Riddle alumnus Jared Isaacman (‘11) has a lot to be proud of, including performing a history-making civilian spacewalk as commander of the Polaris Dawn mission on Sept. 13, 2024, for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Polaris Dawn was not his first sojourn into space — he previously commanded Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian mission to orbit, in September 2021 with fellow Embry‑Riddle alumnus Chris Sembroski (’07).

During his latest trip to space, Isaacman was joined by fellow crew members Mission Specialist Sarah Gillis; Mission Specialist Anna Menon; and Pilot Scott “Kidd” Poteet. This team made up Isaacman’s partners in the mission, which he called “a critical milestone on a far, far bigger adventure.”

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Isaacman to talk about his passion for space exploration, the future of the space industry and its development, as well as words of advice for current and prospective Embry‑Riddle students who want to know, “What’s next?”

How Does it Feel To Make History?

When asked what he’s taken away from his latest accomplishment, Isaacman is humble. “I’ve been incredibly lucky and just thrilled to be able to see so much amazing work happening around me … and contribute in a small way.”

Isaacman’s achievements are anything but small. In addition to founding two highly successful companies, he financed both Inspiration4 and Polaris Dawn.

His commitment to philanthropic ventures is also remarkable and inspiring. “To the extent that you can,” he explains, “you need to try and leave the world a better place than you found it.”

A primary goal of his most current mission was to test an advanced extravehicular spacesuit that may be the prototype for the interplanetary travel wardrobe of the future.

But Isaacman focuses on the teamwork behind his history-making mission. “It took so many people — an army of people — to create and test new technology,” says Isaacman. “And they’re doing it not for me … or any other crew members, but for a really exciting future that many people can live in.”

Included in that future are Isaacman’s two daughters — 10 and 8 — who haven’t quite wrapped their arms around the significance of the mission. According to Isaacman, they have yet to understand the magnitude of the history that Gillis and Menon have made as two women who have traveled further than any other woman in space. “They probably think it’s way more routine than it is, which is awesome, because as they grow up, it will be routine.”

‘We Don’t Have a Choice Not To Proceed’

While Isaacman spent considerable time talking about the overall impact of the mission, he also discussed the testing that prepared them for the grueling conditions in space. The Polaris Dawn team spent over two and a half years on development training, the testing of equipment and on operations, including moving around in their new high-tech, advanced spacesuits.

Even the violin of Mission Specialist Sarah Gillis — who performed “Rey’s Theme” from the movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” — needed to undergo rigorous testing.

Even after all the preparation, Isaacman said, space can seem a dark and threatening place.

“There’s no atmosphere; there’s radiation. There is micrometeoroid debris … We have to keep going just as the explorers did hundreds of years ago, and along the way … life will be better for humankind. So, we don’t have a choice not to proceed. We just kind of have to go with caution.”

Jared Isaacman — Embry‑Riddle alumnus and commander of the Polaris Dawn
Mission — shares his perspectives on the past, present and future of space exploration.

Back to His Embry‑Riddle Roots

Polaris Dawn traveled to orbit on top of a Falcon 9 rocket in a Dragon spacecraft that carried the Embry‑Riddle-built LLAMAS multi-camera system, developed under the direction of Dr. Troy Henderson, director of the Space Technologies Lab and associate professor of Aerospace Engineering. LLAMAS — which stands for “Literally Looking At More Astronauts In Space” — captured video of crew operations during the expedition, and those images will be used to create virtual reality experiences.

Additionally, Dr. Amber Paul, assistant professor in Embry‑Riddle’s Department of Human Factors and Behavioral Neurobiology, and her Omics Lab for Health and Human Performance will process biospecimens collected from the crew to assess the influence of space missions on human health.

Isaacman was thrilled to work with his alma mater, particularly on the LLAMAS project, in which he was heavily involved.

“Especially [as a result of] my connection back to Embry‑Riddle, having gotten to work on a project that would ultimately fly on our vehicle; get exposed to the vacuum of space; bring back data — it gets exciting. So, I was thrilled for it.”

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

When asked about the future, Isaacman highlights the contributions of SpaceX to space exploration and the future of humankind. “The amount of testing that takes place behind the scenes — the process, the review, the rigor — is intense,” he says. Because of the company’s fail-fast iterative design process, they still make big things happen, despite all of that structure.

Even so, opportunities abound in the burgeoning space industry, both directly and indirectly, in areas such as human factors, the space economy, space manufacturing and even mining asteroids. While SpaceX is doing the heavy lift in the industry now, Isaacman says we’re at a pivotal moment for all of humankind. “There’s going to be a lot of opportunity for … inspired dreamers to make a difference.”

Isaacman is happy to support and inspire his fellow Eagles along the way.

“[The space industry] is going to grow at an exponential rate. It’s going to be hard to fathom how many people are going to have opportunities to be in space.”

And Embry‑Riddle students and alumni are primed to take advantage of those opportunities.

Trump’s NASA pick says military will inevitably put troops in space
By Courtney Albon Wednesday, Dec 11, 2024

Isaacman didn’t offer a timeline for his prediction but suggested that a military presence in space could coincide with future NASA moon and Mars missions.

“This is the trajectory that humankind is going to follow,” Isaacman said. “America is going to lead it and we’re going to need guardians there on the high ground looking out for us.”

Traditionally, selecting the leader of NASA has not been a top priority for incoming presidential administrations. While nominations for cabinet-level posts are announced well before Inauguration Day, the choice of a NASA administrator can languish for months. President Joe Biden’s nomination of Bill Nelson to lead the space agency took until March 2021 and was rather speedy, relatively speaking: in 2017, Donald Trump waited more than seven months before picking Jim Bridenstine as NASA administrator. I am incredibly grateful to President Trump @POTUS, the Senate and all those who supported me throughout this journey. The past six months have been enlightening and, honestly, a bit thrilling. I have gained a much deeper appreciation for the complexities of government and the weight our political leaders carry.

It may not always be obvious through the discourse and turbulence, but there are many competent, dedicated people who love this country and care deeply about the mission. That was on full display during my hearing, where leaders on both sides of the aisle made clear they’re willing to fight for the world’s most accomplished space agency.

The President, NASA and the American people deserve the very best--an Administrator ready to reorganize, rebuild and rally the best and brightest minds to deliver the world-changing headlines NASA was built to create.

I have not flown my last mission---whatever form that may ultimately take--but I remain incredibly optimistic that humanity’s greatest spacefaring days lie ahead. I’ll always be grateful for this opportunity and cheering on our President and NASA as they lead us on the greatest adventure in human history🇺🇸

Spent the last few months assembling a pretty extensive plan—shaped by insights from a lot of smart, passionate people. No shortage of input—everyone loves NASA and wants to help. Maybe I will write an op-ed someday—but I didn’t love being inundated with plans from people who thought they were uniquely NASA’s savior—and I have little interest in doing the same.

In short, I would have deleted the bureaucracy that impedes progress and robs resources from the mission (this is not unique to NASA it’s a govt problem). I would flatten the hierarchy, rebuild the culture—centered on ownership, urgency, mission-focus alongside a risk recalibration. Then concentrate resources on the big needle movers NASA was meant to achieve.

And if it came down to poor outcomes like failing to launch a near-complete Roman, shutting down Hubble or Chandra prematurely or flying reduced crew sizes to the ISS just to save money (yes, people are actually considering 3 astronauts instead of 4)…then yes, I would have funded it myself to protect the science.

That is not how it should work—and I honestly don’t think it would have come to that. With the right political support and smart management—logic should prevail.

"I was very disappointed, especially because it was so close to confirmation."

(...) Isaacman said his plan, a blueprint of more than 100 pages detailing various actions to modernize NASA and make it more efficient, would have started with the bureaucracy. "It was going to be hard to get the big, exciting stuff done without a reorganization, a rebuild, including cultural rebuilding, and an aggressive, hungry, mission-first culture," he said.

One of his first steps would have been to attempt to accelerate the timeline for the Artemis II mission, which is scheduled to fly four astronauts around the Moon in April 2026. He planned to bring in "strike" teams of engineers to help move Artemis and other programs forward. Isaacman wanted to see the Artemis II vehicle on the pad later this summer, with the goal of launching in December of this year, echoing the historic launch of Apollo 8 in December 1968. (...)

As part of this, he would have pushed for certification of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft to carry seven astronauts—which was in the vehicle's baseline design—instead of the current four. This would have allowed NASA to fly more professional astronauts, but also payload specialists like the agency used to do during the Space Shuttle program. Essentially, NASA experts of certain experiments would fly and conduct their own research. (...)

Thank you, Mr. President @POTUS, for this opportunity. It will be an honor to serve my country under your leadership. I am also very grateful to @SecDuffy, who skillfully oversees @NASA alongside his many other responsibilities.

The support from the space-loving community has been overwhelming. I am not sure how I earned the trust of so many, but I will do everything I can to live up to those expectations.

To the innovators building the orbital economy, to the scientists pursuing breakthrough discoveries and to dreamers across the world eager for a return to the Moon and the grand journey beyond--these are the most exciting times since the dawn of the space age-- and I truly believe the future we have all been waiting for will soon become reality.

And to the best and brightest at NASA, and to all the commercial and international partners, we have an extraordinary responsibility--but the clock is running. The journey is never easy, but it is time to inspire the world once again to achieve the near-impossible--to undertake and accomplish big, bold endeavors in space...and when we do, we will make life better here at home and challenge the next generation to go even further.

NASA will never be a caretaker of history--but will forever make history.

Godspeed, President Donald J. Trump, and Godspeed NASA, as America leads the greatest adventure in human history 🇺🇸

Trump re-nominates billionaire Jared Isaacman to lead NASA
by  Jess Weatherbed Nov 5, 2025, 11:47 AM GMT+1

(...) Isaacman has donated more than $1 million to pro-Trump organizations in recent weeks, and Bloomberg reports that he has met with the President several times in person to discuss leadership plans for NASA. If Isaacman’s latest nomination is confirmed, he’ll assume command over a diminished version of the space agency, which has lost thousands of employees since July and faces enormous budget cuts that threaten to terminate two planned Mars missions.

W ceremonii wzięli udział rodzice nowego administratora, Donald i Sandra Marie.

Administrator NASA odwiedził Goddard Space Flight Center w ramach trasy objazdowej po centrach NASA.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman @NASAAdmin 3:55 AM · Jan 10, 2026
Spent the day at Goddard Space Flight Center as the first stop on my roadshow across NASA’s centers. I’m not visiting for photo ops or VIP tours, but to get out where the action is and talk directly with the workforce, the industry partners and congressional delegations.

There’s no question there is real work to do across all of our centers, and Goddard is no exception. We carry dated, and in some cases, unsafe infrastructure on our books, along with programs that are not always aligned with our most pressing objectives. We can do better by listening to and empowering the best and brightest to work the problems and pursue the opportunities with urgency.

In that spirit, I enjoyed all the conversations at GSFC, including the tough questions, and seeing the flight hardware up close. I want to pass along my appreciation to the entire team, including those contributing to the exciting Dragonfly mission and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which is on track to launch on budget and ahead of schedule. Missions like these truly help us pursue the secrets of the universe. If we ensure our resources are focused on the real needle-moving objectives, I am highly confident we can launch even more grand missions of science and discovery in the years ahead.

From pioneering early supersonic flight research to laying the groundwork for America’s human spaceflight achievements, @NASA_Langley has helped shape nearly every chapter of NASA’s history. It continues to be central to where the agency is headed next.

The research and analysis underway here inform how we design vehicles, test assumptions, and manage risk across the agency. That work underpins a wide range of missions, and it’s driven by teams with an exceptional level of technical skill and discipline.

Thanks for welcoming me and for the candid conversations with leadership about both opportunities and challenges. This was the first of many visits, and I look forward to continuing that dialogue.
