Wallops Island launch update — June 3, 2026. Fresh off the wire.

A new FAA Current Operations Plan Advisory just hit, confirming a Rocket Lab mission out of Wallops Flight Facility, VA — listed as "Curveball." Rocket Lab flies HASTE from Wallops, so this is most likely a HASTE mission.

Primary window opens June 11, 2026, at 12:00 AM EDT and runs to 5:15 AM EDT. Backup is the same overnight slot on June 12.

This matches the local mariners' notices already out for the June 11–17 overnight windows — midnight to 5:15 AM EDT. The advisory is the confirmation, and it puts Curveball on night one of the run.

NASA Wallops Island update — June 6, 2026. Curveball is vertical.

We've been checking the pad multiple times over the last few days to catch the Rocket Lab vehicle the moment it first went vertical — and today we got it. Curveball is standing tall on the pad, most likely a HASTE mission.

One thing that jumps out in the photos: the fairing on this one looks noticeably shorter than couple of  HASTE missions. Worth watching as more details emerge.

It wasn't vertical for long, so this is definitely not a wet dress rehearsal. We'll keep checking over the next few days for a WDR ahead of the launch attempt.

Reminder: the window opens the night of June 11 at 12:00 AM EDT and runs to 5:15 AM EDT (0400Z–0915Z), with backups every night through June 17.

Hopefully a good attempt and some nice footage.

NASA Wallops Island launch update — June 9, 2026. TFRs are in for Curveball.
Temporary Flight Restrictions are now posted for Rocket Lab's Curveball mission. Three nights covered so far:

Primary: June 11, 11:50 PM – 5:15 AM EDT
Backup: June 12, 11:50 PM – 5:15 AM EDT
Backup: June 13, 11:50 PM – 5:15 AM EDT

NOTAMs 06/201 and 06/202 are also in, covering the NASA WFF Curveball Area B and Area C downrange oceanic hazard corridors in the New York Oceanic ARTCC — active June 11, 12:00 AM to 5:15 AM EDT.
Separately, the sounding rocket pad just south of the main pads had its cover removed today with a rocket visible on the launch erector. We'll watch for TFRs on that one too.

Wallops Island launch update — June 11, 2026. About an hour and fifteen out.
On site at Wallops for the Rocket Lab HASTE Curveball launch attempt. The rocket is vertical on the pad and barely lit up in the dark. Window opens at 12:00 AM EDT, runs to 5:15 AM EDT.
No propellant loading visible yet. Watching closely.

It really is dark out here. They have all the bright lights off and the red lights on. They do it for the turtles.

Świetny widok kriogenicznej chmury kondensacyjnej uchodzącej z rakiety podczas tankowania i oświetlonej światłami platformy startowej oznacza, uzyskanej dzięki 8-sekundowej ekspozycji na tym zdjęciu (widać cały obszar ulatniającego się w ciemnościach dymu ciekłego tlenu).

Wallops Island launch update — June 11, 2026. Curveball is looking frosty.
Propellant loading is underway on Rocket Lab HASTE Mission Curveball. That cryogenic condensation cloud venting off the vehicle and lit up by the pad lights means we are getting close.
8-second exposure on this one — caught the full sweep of the LOX venting plume in the dark.
Hoping for a launch soon.

Rocket Lab successfully launched its HASTE launch vehicle from Launch Complex 2 on Wallops Island, Virginia for an undisclosed customer. The mission was Rocket Lab's 9th HASTE launch overall.

A suborbital variant of Electron - the world’s most frequently launched small orbital rocket - HASTE includes much of the same innovative technology as Electron, including carbon fiber composite structures and 3D printed rocket engines, but has a modified upper Kick Stage tailored for hypersonic technology tests and a larger payload capacity of up to 700 kg / 1,540 lbs. HASTE can deploy technologies at speeds of more than 7.5km per second to test air-breathing, glide, and ballistic payloads, as well as technologies to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere from space. Combined, the HASTE and Electron launch vehicles have deployed 200+ payloads for government and commercial customers to date.

@dillonshrop6 any clues? Reentry NOTAMs could be mid-Atlantic for normal HASTE launch, or Indian Ocean for a marginal-orbit one...

I wonder if the USSF detected the stages while they were still in-flight (before SECO). If I recall correctly there have been cases where the first set of TLE's released for an orbital launch showed it being suborbital.

The second sentence is true. But there has never been a case where a suborbital launch has been cataloged, with the exception of Landsat-6, an error which was retracted the following day and the catalog / intl id reused.

Based on the orbital parameters released on http://Space-Track.org I mocked up a TLE for the CURVEBALL objects. Another possibility for the mission is that the payload completed most of an orbit and was recovered over the Western US, e.g. at the Utah Test and Training Range

I would however expect in that case an environmental assessment document  for space recoveries at UTTR - there was one for the Varda recoveries there but not a more general one as far as I know. So that argues against this theory....

I'll note that Bob Christy's theory is that although the kick stage was cataloged, it was in fact deorbited with the payload, presumably on first orbit, removing the need to assume the payload had its own propulsion
